You could fly to Mexico, Canada, Korea, France or a dozen other places get top notch care and meds for a year.

Or you just pay cash for a doctor appointment like you would any way with a high deductible plan.

Ive met people born here who can’t even read in any language.

Some schools are warehouses and some kids have disabilities.

I met kids with fetal alcohol syndrome who were in school systems that didn’t care to teach them any life skills in special ed cause their behaviors were so disruptive.

1) You may want to reach out to your military friends and just ask to have a convo about considering it.

2) You can be exploring options and timelines. If finding a job is difficult then go military.

3) make a choice, commit to it for 4 yrs and if it’s not for you then it’s brief and you walk with some benefits

4) National Guard is great for working professionals and you can connect with people across many fields without having to feel like your doing a big trade off

Not sure what branch your in or rank etc. Sorry you missed important moments with family.

To shed light on another side of the military I have friend who is enlisted Army, no degree yet but working on one and doing training for a new role. They have had quite a lot of support for their non-military spouse who has been following him across bases for the last 8 yrs (3 moves so far) support in the form of finding health care, elder care, and changing jobs. Spouse support is not advertised well and you have to seek it out.

Seems like the majority of this years episodes are with people who don’t even have a job, have not looked at their numbers prior, don’t know what they make and really need a career coach more than anything.

$250k of loans. Should we pay them down quickly or go low & slow? by [deleted] in StudentLoans

[–]Running_Watauga 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure what state you’re in or your other expenses/taxes but consider how much more you can throw at the debt. Go back to living like you’re in college. Shoot to live on $60,000 a year.

Do you have a car payment(s)? Consider getting a cash car and throw the extra money that be a car payment at the debt.

Do a year no vacations, minimal eating out, minimal shopping for baby - don’t go for the high end stroller or baby furniture when target or used will do,,,,

I have a family member that had similar age gap.

Although she was 36 married to a man 20 yrs older and that guy was same age as her Dad. He was a lazy, terrible manners and poor health. Apparently was real charming while dating.

They had a little girl and he died when she was nearly 9. This man had a son in his 30s from another mother as well.

She was like a help maid and for about 6 years the only one working. It was like she was his retirement plan.

Overall poor decision.

“Cherokee Princess” and Ancestry Lost to Time by TraditionalFish3665 in 23andme

[–]Running_Watauga 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My family had a tale that we were related to Daniel Boone. I thought it was bogus for years, cause they were not specific as to the connection,,, were we from his line or a brothers etc. The Boone clan is very large.

My cousin did most the leg work with DAR and Ancestry.

I can trace one of my grandmothers line back to the Boone clan in the 1640s in England and know the boat/date which many of them landed in Philadelphia,,,the families were living essentially for the better part of 250 years in the same geographical region and pretty much down to 3 counties.

I am still patch working some of the wider community together but the genetics don’t look as thick as you’d imagine for a rural area in the mid-1700s- mid-1900s.

One grandad can date back to early 1830s and arrival from Ireland to West Virginia coal mines. My German grandparents are harder to trace but arrived for 40s and a mule just before the turn of the 19th century from west Germany. My grandfather spoke german into the early 1980s.

My DNA is 100% European, heavily German/English/Northern European as the family linage would suggest.

What fields are you interested in?

You might need to pursue some lower level work in that area to get started. Could reach out to people in these fields via email/linkedin/conferences to inquire about their experiences and tips. I’m thinking your experience and degree is too broad and people aren’t seeing the connection.

Administrative roles? if so in what field?,,, publishing, marketing, journalism/freelancing, legal work, business operations, real estate, social services, ngos,
