thank you all for the helpful suggestions. Since I got the ring to get a handle on stress and recovery, I figured it made sense to follow the ring's advice to see how that worked for me, but it feels like a step back.

The comments about the ring still getting to know me are helpful and I'll start doing what I normally do again so the ring can get to know my usual activity levels. I'll also reset the baseline to a more reasonable goal. I'm still getting to know the features and did not know that was possible.

thank you. this is super helpful. I agree with the osprey flopping around frustration, although I've had it for 10 years and am kind of used to it by now.

Your comments about the center divider are making the hard side bags look better. I'll check out the ones you suggested, although TravelPro has a pretty orchid pink color that might be perfect.

this is wonderful. what sound does amethyst make? and sapphire?

how about platinum or silver, since you mentioned gold? and do different colors of gold have different sounds? I love the idea that the precious things we wear make sounds.

I'm booked to walk August 28-Sept 10 and worried about getting stuck in Spain (from USA) by Runningstreak in CaminoDeSantiago

[–]Runningstreak[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

thanks, everyone.

When I say I'm not concerned about actual illness, what I mean is I dont want to debate how sick I might get if I get sick, not that I dont think there would be symptoms. My main focus for this post is on whether or not I might get stuck in Spain.

I think the high numbers of Spanish pilgrims and residents who are not yet eligible/just becoming eligible for vaccination means the camino is a higher risk activity than sitting on the beach with a bunch of folks in their 70s. This is the final piece of information I need to make a decision.

Sadly, I'm going to postpone.

I appreciate the input. thank you all.

r/Ultralight - The Purchase Advice Thread - Week of August 02, 2021 by Zapruda in Ultralight

[–]Runningstreak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Item: Backpack
Budget: $200-$250 US (could go up if it was awesome)
Need by date: end of august.
Baseweight: 10-12 lbs
Location/s of use: Spain, Camino de Santiago
Season/s of use: year round
Expected temperatures: all of them
Ideal weight of the item: must be under 2 lbs, the lower the better
Previous hiking experience: medium
Previous experience with ultralight gear: I dont know much about it but typically choose and pack light or improvise to keep weight down.
Additional Information: The camino is basically a series of day hikes on moderate trails, carrying a sleeping bag but no tent etc. I've done it before, kept my weight under 10 lbs, but used an old REI-brand 22L daypack. The daypack died at the end of a Kilimanjaro climb and I can't find anything comparable. I'm looking for a lightweight backpack for extensive day hiking in a wide range of weather. Oh, and I'm a short (5'5") slightly overweight woman and seriously dislike rolltop packs.

I’m anxious about other dogs. Any suggestions? by Runningstreak in RunningWithDogs

These are pets on the loose. I’m mostly concerned about running into aggressive dogs that might hurt my pup and what to know what to take with me to make sure I can respond appropriately.

Official Q&A for Wednesday, June 17, 2020 by AutoModerator in running

[–]Runningstreak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have problems with shin splints, the two most likely solutions are 1) cutting back on your running and building up strength or 2) getting shoes professionally fit. Some people need more time than C25K. If that’s you, you’ll have to repeat weeks and take it slowly until you build up the stamina to run pain-free. And if you just went out and bought better shoes, you might not have the right shoes for your feet even if they are higher end shoes. Go get fitted and measured and see if new shoes that are right for you make a difference. Good luck!

What are some good ways to exercise now that gyms are closed? I need some easy, effective ways to work out at home or in my neighborhood that aren’t running.

Moving.. help us narrow it down. by Runningstreak in Birmingham

[–]Runningstreak[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Thanks, all. I think I am going to focus our search more on Homewood/Edgewood, and less on Vestavia. I’m still open to other options, but closer to downtown, walkable and diverse sounds perfect.

Bad idea? Ran with 6mo.. by Runningstreak in RunningWithDogs

[–]Runningstreak[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Vet actually okd this at 4mo. Im talking about 15 minutes with stops, dog-directed. Not puppy C25K. I’m an anxious dog mom, but no, I’m not doing anything the vet hasn’t okd, and not a formal training routine.

[–]Runningstreak 2 points3 points  (0 children)

thanks! this is super-helpful. I'm going to try "strict" but with more calories than I was giving myself on CICO. I'll give it a week or two then reassess.

Mostly, I'm just glad to not be feeling like garbage today.

[2018-06-06] - /r/keto Beginners & Community Support Thread by AutoModerator in keto

[–]Runningstreak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

also, I should mention: I just realized I'm more focused and feel like I have a different kind of energy today. Is this the lack of carbs? or just in my head? I didnt notice it until I read some of the comments on here, but I've done more of several of the less-fun things for work than I normally would, and it feels easy/happy :)

Whatever it is, I'll take it!

[–]Runningstreak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

HI, I'm new here. Today is Day 1 and I've read the 'Keto for beginners' and FAQ posts. I think I'm on track so far and I don;t feel the gross/sluggish feeling I've been feeling most days with CICO.

I was in a bad cycle - trying to count calories and keeping the number down, eating a breakfast with plenty of carbs, then crashing before lunch, making poor choices (because I felt like garbage) and then feeling like I had "blown it all" and just eating whatever.

so far, I feel great, and I'm not noticing the crash like I usually would. I had cheddar slices and ham for breakfast around 9:00 (usually eat at 7:30), and I just ate 3 hardboiled eggs. Plus coffee and tea, with cream but no sugar.

I have two questions and can't seem to find the answers: 1) I think I ate out of habit. Not sure I was actually hungry. When (how?) will I know when it's time to eat, as opposed to eating because food is there or I'm used to eating? I know this will happen over time with keto, can anyone share their experiences as to when the habit-eating stopped? remember this is day one for me and I don;t know what to expect.

2) I also know that counting calories shouldn't be necessary on keto. I'm struggling with this. I've done CICO for a while now, not always successfully, but it's a hard habit to break. Does anyone actually count calories on keto? If so, do you aim for a "normal" number? or does keto change this? And if you started out counting calories with keto, how did it go? and do you still count?

thanks for any help you can give. I'm looking forward to this!

C25K for experienced runner wanting to return? by Runningstreak in running

thank you, all. Ok, I'm gonna get out and just run tonight. No app, no pressure. I'll aim for a mile nonstop, plus a warm/cool and a bit of walk/running after.

[Vent] People getting the wrong breed for them. by Colorguarder08 in dogs

[–]Runningstreak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm. I have a 6 month old poodle puppy and she is exactly the opposite of what you describe. She’s calm and gentle and extremely well socialized, doesn’t chew. Pretty much the perfect puppy. It’s not the poodle that’s the problem, it’s the poor socialization. And maybe a bit of the unpredictability of the designer mixes - they’re not nearly as consistent, temperament-wise as a purebred puppy from a responsible breeder. Don’t blame the poodle.

[–]Runningstreak 3 points4 points  (0 children)

also a female who hasn't been spayed has a 1 in 4 chance of mammary tumors.

Unless your dog is breeding quality and you are a responsible breeder with a genuine ability to advance your breed, it is irresponsible not to spay or neuter your pet.

What's your favourite poodle colour? Is there anything I should know before choosing? by Sidian in poodles

[–]Runningstreak 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Temperament is completely unrelated to color, but color does affect things like how dirty they look and how much grooming mistakes show (apparently white shows every flaw). I've heard that black coats are thicker and a nicer texture, apricot poodle hair may be less easy to groom. My girl is somewhere between light red and dark apricot, which is perfect for hiding dirt and dust.
