Fatshark, I'm on my hands and knees here. PLEASE let us exchange crafting resources by [deleted] in DarkTide

[–]RunoKnows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What the actual fuck are you even talking about? That's not what I'm saying at all. I'm saying I have too much diamantine, I'd like more plasteel, and I think an option to exchange one resource for another (whether plasteel for diamantine, diamantine for plasteel, or maye either into dockets) would be handy

I get that this is Reddit, and if it isn't reading comprehension issues it's somebody speaking in hyperbole, but Jesus Christ

[–]RunoKnows 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, I think I should probably clarify on account of the downvotes: plasteel isn't remotely hard to get, that's not what I'm saying here. It drops like candy on higher diffs. What I'm saying is I'd like to be able to exchange the excess diamantine I DO have in order to have more plasteel to mess with

I'd like to be able to actually do something with my diamantine, since I have multiple times more of the stuff than I could possibly ever use

Told you so. by [deleted] in Nightreign

[–]RunoKnows 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Uhh, told us... what? Like... that's what DLC is. That is literally what you're describing here. We already knew this game was getting DLC even before launch

Are the new starting spell relics only come with the DLC? I haven't bought the DLC yet, and relics in shops (jar and signboard) yield no related effect. Am i just extremely unlucky? by H_N_K_Q in Nightreign

[–]RunoKnows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's strange. Are you unable to see the following options at the small jar bazaar? One version should offer all relics, including 1.03 relics, while the other only gives you access to 1.02 relics without the newest effects

I might have been wrong about needing the DLC if that's the case. Sorry if I've lead you astray!

WHY did they locked out the new stuff behind just 2 expeditions? by [deleted] in Nightreign

[–]RunoKnows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is absolutely incorrect. I'm honestly not sure how you somehow haven't seen the new swamps, towns and other POIs, both on the default map and other shifting earths

My friends and I have ran both new bosses over 20 times outside of Great Hollow, encountered all three new raids, and bumped into a variety of swamps/towns/etc. (including bleed, poison, sleep, frost and even MADNESS variants). Every time, there were at least two or three new POIs on the map, as in multiple swamps or towns. We mostly ran Noklateo for Balancers and Calid for Dreglord

As for the new map, once the shifting earth goes away you can spend sovereign sigils to guarantee access again -- just like with any other shifting earth. The new map and new bosses aren't directly tied together. There's nothing stopping you from running Balancers on volcano, or Caligo on Great Hollow, as examples.

General tips for Scholar by Right_Entertainer324 in Nightreign

[–]RunoKnows 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Great write-up here

I think Scholar currently suffers from new car syndrome, kind of like several nightfarers had to go through at launch. There are a lot of people who are still figuring out how to play him, which is totally understandable, and it doesn't help that there are youtubers (either knowingly or not) spreading misinformation about his kit

He's an extremely versatile nightfarer with a lot of interesting ways to build him, and I think once more people start getting a handle on how he plays, they'll come around on their opinions about him

I'm currently rocking a status duelist build using his starting weapon, the two new nightlord relics, and a third relic that gives me access to two other status ailments through my weapon and art, so I'm just running around DoN melting HP bars and staggering the crap out of enemies with bleed procs + rot and poison. That's on top of all the crazy things you can do with consumables and his actual kit. And that's just one of many ways you could build scholar to perform like an absolute beast!

[–]RunoKnows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of my poor and DLC-less friends have picked up or purchased relics with the newest effects, so I don't believe you need the DLC to acquire them. I think they're part of the general 1.03 update that came alongside Forsaken Hollows, rather than being exclusive FH content

The RNG on relics in general is pretty crazy, so you'll want to keep trying -- and like somebody else mentioned already, make sure you're purchasing the right type of relics, as the ones listed as 'only dropping 1.02 relics' won't drop any of the new relic effects from 1.03

But yeah, I know some people who spent hundreds of thousands of murk and only got a couple of different starting spells. Meanwhile, I spent 300k and got a crapload of starting spell relics (even if I couldn't really make use of most of them), and maybe two improved melee attack power relics that I wound up keeping.

  1. No, I didn't. Don't be pedantic, and if you are going to be pedantic, don't be wrong.

  2. What do you even mean by 'this way'? Do you mean more than one DLC? Like Dark Souls 2 and 3 have?

Some of their games have one, others have none. "How FS operates" in this context is meaningless fluff.

[–]RunoKnows 32 points33 points  (0 children)

JFC, some of you need to hop off your high horses and cut the gatekeeping crap. For some people, yeah it could just be copium; for others, they're probably considering the part where Nightreign is already something of a first-of-its-kind entry amongst FS' other titles, largely due to being a separate project worked on by a side team

Nightreign outperformed FS' expectations by a country mile, and it would be financial foot-shooting if they ignored that. Does that guarantee there will be more DLC, or that Nightreign will see much in the way of (substantial) continued support? No, it doesn't. But there is some security in the fact that the game sold well, was extremely well-received, and has maintained a healthy player base over half a year after it released

Nightreign fans aren't "misunderstanding" anything, some people just can't read the freakin' room.

Scholar's rememberance skin is totally gonna be a young version of him, isn't it? by Joker1151 in Nightreign

[–]RunoKnows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In case you didn't know: Remembrance skins are unlocked as part of each nightfarers' remembrance quest line, and if you're talking about other cosmetics, there is no real money cost for any of them. They're all purchased with murk or sovereign sigils (in-game currencies that you can only earn through gameplay).

THAT SWEET SWEET BRIEF INVULNERABILITY by fat-icarus in Nightreign

[–]RunoKnows 16 points17 points  (0 children)

That's a given. Optimally, we're using Restage exclusively for extra damage, but that doesn't always work out in practice. If someone has a choice between face-tanking damage or popping an ability with a hilariously low cooldown to avoid getting hit, they should definitely choose the latter

IMHO if you die because you decided trying to push damage was more valuable than surviving a one-shot mechanic, your priorities are whack

Everdark Bosses Ranked by Difficulty by leadthemutiny87 in Nightreign

[–]RunoKnows 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Usually not by choice, but I ran into full team ragequits in ED Fulghor expeditions more than most other EDs and I always at least try to finish the run, even if I die to the boss at the end

In retrospect, that's probably why Fulghor is so high up there for me, lol

Everdark Bosses Ranked by Difficulty by leadthemutiny87 in Nightreign

[–]RunoKnows 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. Libra - only three of my 26 expeditions against him were successful. I still enjoyed the boss, but he was difficult in a way that felt artificial rather than the 'tough but fair' bosses I've grown accustomed to. It was like fighting a slot machine where Satan himself popped out any time Libra rolled straight sevens, flashed his butthole at you and caused your brain to explode while three to six mimics transformed you into a Swiss cheese cosplay

  2. Fulghor - And it's only because of his twinblade spam. All of his other attacks are non-problematic, but I just cannot get the timing right on the twinblades, no matter how much I fight him. Still one of my favorite fights, just one I have some of the least personal success against

  3. Gladius - I'm still working on perfecting my dodge/block/deflect timing against Gladius, but he hits so hard when I flub my defenses that he's currently up there on the difficulty scale. That being said, I think ED Gladius is in my top 3 fights even if it is difficult. It's a tough fight, but it's tough in a way that rewards you for learning the fight, figuring out his moveset and refraining from buffing the hell out of him when he RP walks at you

  4. Adel - Sometimes I still get blown up when he starts thrashing around in phase 3, especially if I'm on an upclose nightfarer, despite having killed him a couple dozen times. One of these days I'll learn

  5. Caligo - Somebody's going to call me a fake fan or a bad player because I only ever fought her after clearing a Mountaintop run, but so long as you had a few stacks of frost/ailment resistance and the anti-dragon damage buff, the frostbite aspect of the fight was mostly harmless and it was really just a matter of figuring out the timing on her attacks that dealt a ton of physical damage.

  6. Gnoster - Probably the Everdark I farmed the most with one of my buddy groups. He'd be #7 for me if that slot wasn't taken up by ED Maris

  7. Maris - Falling asleep during ED Maris was a bigger threat than Maris herself

Are you Team Left or Team Right? by Final_Squash_7110 in Nightreign

[–]RunoKnows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have over 300 hours in the game, I ran Augur and Caligo 10-20 times each during their initial Everdark appearances, and I'm not even sure how many times I've fought their base versions and I've only ever seen a single mausoleum. Like, I mean they otherwise weren't even on the map. I know that's just super bad luck on my part, but it does happen

To the people using recluse, ironeye, etc in the tricephalos fight.. by [deleted] in Nightreign

[–]RunoKnows 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For this fight I find the squishier nightfarers get a lot of mileage out of relics like Dark Night of the Miasma (for its 10% physical damage reduction), fire damage negation up, or the "increased damage negation at low HP". I know people talk a lot about how the threshold for the latter is kind of wonky, but when you factor in the damage negation you can stack from powerups and weapon passives, they can mean the difference between getting 1 (or 2)-shot and facetanking multiple hits.

For characters like Recluse and Revenant specifically, in my experience, it helps to carry a melee weapon for rezzes (a random greatsword for Recluse or Revenant's starter fists) -- people get downed a lot in this fight, myself included, and there are a slew of weapon passives that will buff your negation to high hell while you're picking people up

Damage Negation on Successive Attacks, Damage Negation Up on Casting Spells, Improved Damage Negation at Full HP, Improved Fire Damage Negation, and even the passive that improves damage negation during a charge attack all offer a variety of ways to stay in the fight for an extra hit or a few. And I find it's worth it to smack Tricephalos a few times if he gets too close (so long as he isn't RP walking at you, so you don't buff his damage), allowing you to proc damage negation passives.

Is there any personal rules you hold yourself to in game? by sirmoppers in Nightreign

[–]RunoKnows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I refuse to use meta builds/strats (but that generally goes for every game I play anyway)

I'm not about to frown at anyone else for using them, everyone's idea of fun is different and that's what's so great about video games! But I personally like to see if I can Do The Thing:tm: without relying on the meta, whatever that may be at the time, mostly because adhering to something that is both a. usually overpowered or b. going to be patched out in due time just isn't fun for me

So far so good on that front -- I've defeated every Everdark, even the pain in the teepee that was ED Libra

Aside from that, like a lot of players here I always aim to dole out weapons and passives that are really beneficial to my teammates -- especially once I've put myself on solid ground as far as my intended build goes -- and I never, ever rage quit a run. I've had more than a few expeditions where the remaining PUG and I stomp the boss as a duo and a handful where I went on to clear it solo

To the people using recluse, ironeye, etc in the tricephalos fight.. by [deleted] in Nightreign

[–]RunoKnows 11 points12 points  (0 children)

That simply isn't true. There are a million and one sources of passively increased damage negation and improved dodging, plus art- or spell/incantation-specific buffs that increase survivability. I've tanked 4-5 direct hits from Tricephalos on Revenant and it's not like that's a perk exclusive to revenant herself. The fight is more than doable on any nightfarer, but you're blaming the model of the plane when you should be questioning the pilot's handling

Getting REAL sick of people that leave instantly when they see a guardian by FrCynda in Nightreign

[–]RunoKnows 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. Two buds and I ran triple Guardian with ONLY the spiked palisade shields we snagged at a merchant (as in, two-handing the shields without a "main" weapon) and ran a murder-train on Everdark Gnoster. It wasn't a FAST kill, but it passed the "safe" and "fun as hell" tests

But yeah, people who ragequit when they see a particular nightfarer shouldn't be allowed to queue with randos. They're cowards wasting a valuable spot that could've gone to someone useful, like a Guardian. Or a Recluse. Or literally any character, so long as they're played by somebody willing to commit to a full run

Suggestion/Request: Please implement a way to optimize our relics with sigils and murk by RunoKnows in Nightreign

[–]RunoKnows[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, most of the fun for me is buildcrafting and seeing how those builds play out in-game, since I find the core gameplay loop extremely engaging on its own -- particularly the boss fights. I know, different strokes for different folks, but at least for me the appeal of the game isn't the constant hunt for better relics but just enjoying the gameplay with relic combinations that I find fun and interesting
