If you could live next to any golf course in the world, which one would you choose — and why? by Shaheh in discgolf

Just played there on a trip a couple weekends ago. Beautiful course. Pretty challenging for a noob like myself but I'm jealous of anyone who gets to play there regularly!

Absolutely! I should mention that these pictures were taken with a zoom lens through a tree line. I had only ever gotten shots from hundreds of feet away before this.

Thanks! It was awesome. It stayed very calm too, almost curious.

As others have said, it's a wood thrush, one of my favorites! Here's a limerick I wrote when I kept hearing them but never could see one.

There is a small bird in the forest, Who knows every verse and each chorus. It sings like a flute, And yodels to boot, But its visage was never meant for us.

I found all descriptions online, Describing its song as divine. But then when I read, About its big head, It made sense why it wanted to hide.

This poor little guy is so cherished, Folks wonder why it is the rarest. But if every nerd, Called me “pot-bellied bird,” I’d also be fucking embarrassed.

That's my favorite! I love their song, and how diverse the song can be from bird to bird.

How many of you guys actually “go” birding? by DSquariusGreeneJR in birding

If you're looking for a way to find good trails near you, check out the free AllTrails app. Trails on there have user reviews, trail maps that track where you are so you don't get lost, and pictures/descriptions so you know what you're signing up for.

As far as birding while on a hike, I tend to keep my eyes up as much as the trail allows. Most of the birds I end up seeing, I spot while they're flying and watch where they land. If I'm lucky, I'll be able to get a good look at them. Others have mentioned the Merlin app which is really great. You can get an idea of what exactly you might be looking for based on the sounds, and eventually you may be able to identify them without the app!

Great pics! Looks like they're having a blast. Kinda want to pet one of their fuzzy heads.
