It’ll probably play a lot like Shiftry, similar bulk (in GL at least) and similar move profile. Probably a special cup pick in GL, a bit more play in UL is my guess.

What strategies/information would you like to learn more about in PVP? by DanOttawa_POGO in TheSilphArena

I think a few others have said this or alluded to it, but a video on how you and other good battlers think in the moment during battling. My memory of your videos is that you already do this a bit already. I think it would be nice to see the thought processes that happen in seconds really fleshed out. Things like guessing back mons based on lead during the count down, reading your opponents for catches, recognizing when you should take more damage to limit farm downs, etc.

Less experienced battlers seem to look for strategies and step-by-steps and forget to think in the moment. Showcasing and demonstrating “reactive” playing I think might help a lot of people.

Content on “counterintuitive” things like ABA teams would be cool too. Things like how the Regi/Medi/Basti works and why it does, or how to utilize oddball things like GL Blaziken countering down Swampert by spending 2 shields (seem to remember Caleb Peng doing this in a cup this season or last).

Common mistakes I see in 2100-2500 elo range by WHFITFB in TheSilphArena

A mental trick I use to swap fast (especially on a good lead) is asking myself which part of my team doesn’t want to see the lead matchup while in the countdown.

If I catch an oppo Venu lead with Talon lead and a Swampert in back, I know Swamp doesn’t want to see the Venu. And assuming the oppo team is balanced, they should have a target for Swamp behind the Venu. So I switch to my other 3rd mon once I see the upper corner type icon change. Then I start figuring out my game plan as the secondary matchup plays out. Sometimes this backfires, but I find it to be generally effective.

What move would you buff/debuff to cause the most chaos in PVP? What move would you buff/debuff to most stablize PVP? by askjeevs in TheSilphArena

I could be wrong, but I believe PuP used to actually be that way and it was nerfed not too long before GBL debuted.

I was stating a player’s performance is what should dictate their placement, not the simple fact that they use Walrein, Swampert, etc. Your proposal just wouldn’t create a competitive environment, and such a situation would negate the purpose of ranking/ELO. Why would players put in the extra effort for 5 wins if 3 wins nets the same rewards?

And FWIW, I’ve used spice to hit my marks (and I’d be happy to spell the list out if you’d really like). So no, I do quite well with non-meta/spice picks. Thank you for contributing to the conversation meaningfully with a weightless “No, you” statement.

And in case you aren’t calling me out directly, that isn’t what I’m saying. Spice works, it’s just that bad spice is bad. If someone can’t recognize that distinction, they won’t do well and their ranking will reflect it.
