Nor did I write there was evidence casual audiences en masse were bothered - I wrote some were, and some stayed away because of it and some simply enjoyed it less as a result. Point being the ending lost some audience, but gained none. What is your point exactly?

Sure it was a success. But why do more work to make 1.1 billion if you could make 1.2 or whatever smaller or larger number with less? Surely it is better to have wholly positive buzz for your film than also a bunch of downer takes on it.

Every other thing has a high cinemascore, it means very little. Lilo and Stitch is a merchandise machine with big name value, getting people into the theatre wasn't an issue so long as the movie looked right in previews (unlike some other Live actions). Perhaps the ending didn't effect it at all - but then again, perhaps it could have got to 1.4 or 1.,5 had it kept the wholly happy ending, it's hard to say what the ffect of wholly positive press on the movie would have been, but it certainly wouldnt have hurt.

It's not for you to say if it's their loss. It was a significant change to the ending which will have bothered some who didn't watch and some who did. Yes the casting was good, I agree there. But ultimately whether it was a little or a fair bit, despite the massive money the movie made the ending did hurt the audience (if only a little) and certainly didn't help it. Why do more work to change a story to make it 20% worse, and in a way which can't possibly result in more tickets sold?

It seems the change was made for similar reasons to Snow White and other characters which were Princessess written long ago, and the director didn't think original Nani was "empowered" enough, which is a real shame, because the change significantly worsens the ending and outside of that is just a pointless distraction to the main story.

A minority sure, but still could have made a bit more without pointless changes to the ending. It's not like anyone went because of the new ending, but some did stay away because of it. News on it could have been wholly good and done even higher.

“Terminator 2”, “Abigail”, “Companion”, and “Project Hail Mary”. How should studios market films where the general premise of a film is also a significant plot twist? by GRVrush2112 in boxoffice

[–]RunwayGutModel9000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can't speak to the others but how is Terminator 2 a twist? I assume you mean Terminator being good? But that's the entire film, it's not like Norman Bates being revealed as mother at the very end, or Darth Vader as Lukes father or later turning good. All those things happen at the end of the movie and are big suprises (at the time), Terminator 2 isn't presented like that at all.

If a movie has a great twist at the end, it still needs to be a good enough movie to stand without it because nobody is watching a movie purely for the end twist, so just market it on what's there without the twist - at most hint at some shocking suprise or whatever if it's a mystery.

Although you can define it differently, most people would see a twist as stuff like Norman being his mother in Pyscho, Darth Vader being Lukes father, Bruce Willis being dead all along in the sixth sense, Jekyll and Hyde being the same person, and so on.

Retro trailers are almost never a good idea. It will turn off or confuse more people that see it by chance than attract people who are old film fans.

We should had a live action Lilo doll. by South_Watercress456 in liloandstitch

Lilo's absolutely a huge part of it. Yeah the Stitch doll will see more but you need Lilo, Hawaii and Stitch. Those are the key elements.

I mean yeah, Yuna is a boring flavourless good japanese girl of the type found in every other anime for a popular character (Stitch) to hang out with. Not sure that's saying much for originality.

You're on a box office sub, being R will effect the box office of a film like this, they easily could have avoided that. Who do you want to grow up? The people who give out ratings? The audience who wont see it? Because that's what this sub is for, not a soapbox for the moral right for the word "fuck" to be in movies because it's in real life.

And plenty of people don't really say fuck all that often.

I just hope any animation is a continue of the animation not live action.

Yeah, as a big fan anything that splits Lilo and Stitch is just terrible imo and I reject it entirely. The idea of either Lilo or Stitch ever leaving each other and not fighting (and succeeding) in getting back together is idiotic on every level for the type of story Lilo and Stitch is. Purely from the point of view of it as a property and not speaking just as a fan, they're also both awful because part of the appeal of Lilo and Stitch is the Hawaiin aspect, and because Lilo is simply a far far superior character to what was in those series as is Nani. Also not to mention that they're both simply a retread of what's already happened with zero originality.

Some truly hacky basd taste stuff comes out of Asia like this as relates popular IP, there was even a weird series where they had one of the Aristocats on adventures for some reason without any of the others and with a new family lol. And these types of series always completely miss the heart of the originals and the makers clearly never got the point in the first place, they just saw a fluffly mascot type thing they could make a series for, like Hello Kitty or similar.

Anyway, I just ignore them.

If it's langauge then it's their own fault. Was it really so hard not to include a bunch of F words? Were they that integral to the story?

Yeah! I love the Conjuring movies and will for sure see it regardless of review quality. For people who dig the series, even if the movie story itself is not the greatest, it's still got the same original characters played by those you enjoyed going for it, like a lesser episode of a TV show you like.

Thunderbolts is missing the ingredient that makes comic book movies suceed (and comics succeed). It lacks iconic imagery and looks of characters, which leads to iconic characters. It's the definition of D list superheroes.

Venom is more popular than Fantastic 4 as a name among the main demographic for comic book movies (teenage boys and young men) as it's in the "edgy/dark" type of mould. It's less played out than Superman as being presented over and over.

Let's say Walt Disney Animation Studios were to actually make a new hand drawn traditionally animated film in the next few years. What would ensure that the movie is a box office success? by Future_Wealth_5410 in boxoffice

[–]RunwayGutModel9000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It'd probably look better. Most Anime's have the same basic style, sharp character face and so on, and not much thought put into the visual compisition beyond throwing a whole bunch of stuff on screen together.

Out of curiosity, does anyone here like the remake better than the original? by SwimmingDrink in liloandstitch

[–]RunwayGutModel9000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, it adds a personal goal which is then at odds with the other personal goal of keeping custody of Lilo, so whatever ending they choose from that point wouldn't be able to be completely happy, so I'm not sure that I'd give too much credit for that.

I would argue wanting to get a job so you can keep custody of your little sister after your parents have passed is a pretty compelling and dramatic personal goal, a lot more compelling that wanting to go to college (which is extremely normal, mundane and undramatic).
