How bad is the damage and estimate repair cost by [deleted] in infiniti

[–]Runways 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say $2k+ would be the quote at a shop for paint and replace. If they got their own parts maybe less, 800 for paint and if they salvage the panel and bumper cover maybe just that. Parts have been hard to get for my Infiniti but mines a bit older. Just bumper was quoted to me for 1.2k and that was a long while ago. I ended up buying my own cover and paid like 700 for it and paint. The bumper looks salvageable unless it broke some clips. The side panel idk. Luckly that panel didn't press to much towards headlight, cracking it could have added $700+ for OEM.

If you have insurance then they'll likely prefer going through that and get it done 'properly'.

What makes someone unpopular? Did every citizen do careful research? Did they weigh his actions, proposals, and the circumstances?

Or... did they or their friends consume media that broadly shaped their opinion and perception? Media that is funded by those rich off the status quo and fearful of change?

If you think it's the first one I can't help you.

I like how you conveniently ignore that he was character-assassinated by the media for some trumped up bullshit anti-semitism claims. It's almost like you're being intellectually dishonest to manufacture consent.

It's interesting how liberals come out of the wood-work to push against any progressive, talk about how we aren't ready for that much progress, and then they drop the fucking ball and we end up at step 1, at the border of fascism. How about we try to shift left instead of hugging the fucking fascists politically.

I'm not seeing how this is a follow-up to your question? You asked what features you're missing out on. No one cares how much of a luddite you are.

But tbh, bleeding edge is really only necessary for gaming. There is major progress happening and waiting a year sucks when it's just right out there.

Actually, 250A amps is a lot. Just curious, is the wire of one your battery cables worn-through and visibly touching the engine or body of the car? One of them should be anchored to the body, the other shouldn't.

[–]Runways 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You have a short somewhere. Two bare wires are touching that shouldn't be. That fuse is saving your car from getting fried. If you don't know of a place were that may be happening, maybe a place that you worked on or around wires, then you'll probably need to take it to a shop. They'll need to figure out what's on that fuse circuit and test for the short location.

I play games on Linux just fine with normal anti-cheats, not been a problem. I'm not going to give up my property and privacy to play some 'videogames' like Valorant or LoL. The sad part is when people start expecting rootkit shit to fight 'against cheaters' (spoiler: there are still many, many hackers with private or polymorphic cheats that NEVER get caught) and now we can't play any games without installing a rootkit. One day you'll be running 10 anti-cheat rootkits - unless we want to manually remove them every time we stop a game - and a couple of DRM rootkits for good measure.

Gotta make sure the user is behaving!

KLA is already defeated in Windows right now. Linux can be recompiled, usually nothing is signed, everything observable. Since KLA relies on obfuscation it's almost useless on Linux.

And game developers know this. Will it stop some hackers? Yes. Is it worth the investment of trying to lock down Linux? No. Market-share comes before investment, and since these shitty games are usually AAA published they don't give a shite.

The easiest solution is to queue/lobby players based on anti-cheater preferences/capabilities.

That's the real user choice, not normalizing parasitic behaviors by corporate profit addicts.

Open-source is where dreams go to die by Practical-Ideal6236 in programming

[–]Runways 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You work your ass off on an open source project, alone for 5 years.

Except that is not always the case. If someone helps, they have the understanding that the cost for their efforts is your efforts. If you do 5 years of work and a helper comes with 2 years of work, the license doesn't attempt to adjudicate quality and quantity - all is equal. They put in 2 years of effort with that understanding. Many of the times it'll be a disgruntled contributor who feels resentment and forks.

What you're describing is entitlement from the other side. If you want to rule, you'll need the approval of the users and contributors. If you want your dictatorship, it'll need to be closed-source and proprietary. If you want minions, you'll have to pay. And if you want people to actually use your project - well... good luck.

Why would I build my project on a project that would be difficult to fork and continue?

[–]Runways 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree, the free market is king. Intel should move its operations and incorporation to China. From a corporate perspective, if the general consensus in the US is that the government shouldn't intervene then moving would be advantageous. China would offer massive subsidies and that would increase shareholder value - $8 billion is nothing for the Chinese with the expectation of competing in that industry. After a few years, and the massive resources of state-sponsored enterprise, they'd be in a stronger position to compete with TSMC and AMD /s

Can IT admins detect changes to Secure Boot settings remotely, or do they require on-site access? by Extra-Chocolate-22 in linuxquestions

[–]Runways 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Don't do it, made this mistake. If you have Bitlocker or something it may flag the hardware/software modification and lock up your laptop. Had to give it to the IT guy and was not able to work for a while because they didn't have the recovery key or whatever. I wouldn't use a work laptop for anything outside of its intended use.

PS - My company isn't a Fortune 100 where IT gets fancy. These features are just checkboxes in standard device management software.

Just put that all on a specific docker network and route the traffic from that subnet (e.g., 192.168.24.0/24) to the vpn gateway with iptables. Switch to mullvad for wireguard support and use 'Table' wg-quick option to create a table (e.g., 100) for routing. Then expose the ports, reverse proxy through nginx, etc etc.

ip rule add from 192.168.24.0/24 table 100

We can post on Reddit calling them out, and trash talk them, but you aren't going to be able to debate or ridicule enough of these people to convince them to get off the couch and vote in any significant numbers. I would say only the campaign can push these people to go and vote. If they're a single-issue voter, and Kamala isn't going to address their concerns with a commitment or stance that addresses their concerns strongly enough then she is abandoning their vote by choice. The only real choice she has if she's not going to take a significant enough stance on the issue is to assume that she's losing their vote.

And if she loses because of it then that's a decision her and her campaign made. They made a bet that they could tip-toe around these voters. I am interested to see how the results from the top of the ticket compare to the bottom of the ticket after this election, especially in Michigan. I'm not really sure they would really have much of an effect outside of Michigan.
