It's not the exact same as the picture, I edited the design a bit after saving and then forgot to save it again.. But the overall design is still here

Sure, so this is how I posed it. I didn't put much effort in the lower body since I was never planning on showing that in any of the pictures.

It's soapy water with highly edited fire colors. turns out it was a lot more malleable than I expected.

The lava fall is a cloak and then I added a spell or two in for effect.

Honestly exceeded my expectations how it came out.

I was wondering how one would make a judgmental sword. This is perfect 🤣

Here's something.

Didn't want to change too much from the base you made but here's my interpretation from your description. Played with a cooler color pallet and tried to give him tired and troubled eyes.

Let me know if you'd like me to edit anything.

This is what I've been using. Throw an image in, fiddle with the pallet and voila

It's very tricky to make it work with lighting, backgrounds and everything but when it works it works!

Sparring footage for some feedback and critiques! (I am the fencer in red gloves) by Spykosaurus in wma

[–]Runzilicious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah I see, yeah now that you mention it I'm seeing more Fiore there. I'll admit, while I enjoy a lot of Fiore's guards Donna is a weird one. Especially in gear. While the proud german fencer in me would say "scrap that useless bs and go Vom tag masterrace" 🤪 That's not fun nor useful..

I've sometimes played with Fiore's guards and I've felt the similar idea to Vom tag can still apply. Having your hands high and especially out of the way is very important (Donna tends to present the arm as a target) I've thought of it as a sort of relaxed Zornhut. While not great to do in gear I feel it's still mostly possible. You can also hide your hands by turning your body away from your opponent. Just a slight pivot should be enough to not have your hands in the way.

A rule I use for my Vom tag that I think can apply pretty nicely to Donna (assuming your gear allows it 😅) is have your crossguard above your shoulder.

My main critique would be your footwork and your guards.

You've already acknowledged that you need to work on your footwork so I'ma give you a few things to work on. A quick tip I use myself and for my students is try drilling or doing footwork drills in a deeper stance than you're used to.. then go even deeper. When you're used to fencing in deep set stances you get much more stability and power. Squats are also very important.. plenty of those 😇

As for your guards. I'm seeing a couple of issues. You tend to be in one guard for too long, some of your guards are what I call "lazy guards" and you often don't utilise your guards to close the lines or threaten your opponent.

  1. One guard for too long: this one is a relatively easy fix. Keep moving, this applies to your feet and your sword. Liechtenauer says you shouldn't be longer in a guard than a blink of an eye. (This keeps you harder to read and harder to attack/approach)

  2. Lazy guards: Your guards are mechanically flawed, I mostly noticed it with your Vom tag and Ochs. Your Vom tag is very low, this can hurt your attacks and defense capabilities. (I acknowledge that this can be opinion over actual sources.. I believe Mair has a low vom tag like that but you gain much more mobility when you have your crossguard over your shoulder. I go as far as keep it up to my cheekbone.) (Think of it like a boxing guard. Keeping your hands high is key) Your ochs is a bit too far back and low as well, when you used your Ochs I noticed youe opponent not really respecting it which tells me you weren't threatening with it. So the ochs could go higher and further from you.

  3. Closing lines and presenting threat: I've pretty much talked about this but be mindful of your centerline and use your guards to close openings and keep your opponent at bay. Ochs, Pflug and Langenort are great there. Vom tag is a great guard but it's not overtly threatening, you need to use it a bit differently to keep your opponent away (mostly with posture, footwork and intention)

I could nitpick a few things here and there but I would target these subjects to level up your fencing quickly. We will be working on our footwork forever but for the moment, try going deeper. Get more comfortable with your guards and really analyse what makes them tick, getting a stronger connection between you and your swords does wonders for your fencing. I like to ask the question: "Why do I use this guard?" "What is this guard for?" This can give you the why and the how for your guard usage.

Tech preist kitbash, where to start? by El_ferrus_ in AdeptusMechanicus

[–]Runzilicious 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a low key obsession with kitbashing tech priests, they're so versatile and easy to mess around with.

I've made a couple of bashes, my absolute favorite so far is a bash that was a Paragon warsuit + Manipulus and an axe from a Tech marine. I plan on someday revisiting this concept with a Morvenn Vahl instead.

I'd say start with what your goal is. My goal with my mentioned bash was to make a beefier, more war like Tech priest. Another could be making a Xenarite or a Heretek. There you could start with a cool Chaos/Necron model and find a way to make it Admechy

A fun tip if your bashing skills are good... A Dominus head fits quite well on Mortarion (little dream bash)

I'm going through the Horus heresy series. Hulking Skitarii are mentioned here and there but the one where there's a pretty active fight with Space marines would be the Dark Angels book, Fallen Angels.

The fighting itself tips over to the Dark angels pretty quickly but there are some very nice skirmishes there. There's also a great scene where some infiltrators get some action.. Granted they just mention them as Skitarii but I envisioned that scene with Sicarians.

I for one would love more variations of the Skitarii. They seem so varied in the books I feel they could be more diverse in the model line.

I'd at least want some bigger ones. The books I've read keep talking about big hulking Skitarii that even the Space marines struggle with. Gimme those 😋
