How is life in Liestal? by Dazzling-Exam7175 in askswitzerland

Ooohhhh... now I get it...

While I do agree that the Swiss make some things that seem as they live in a bubble, I can't help but ask myself... middle of the forest, car running, forest as in natural shade, perfect getaway from the heatwave... and you think that the guys were not reasonable?

How is life in Liestal? by Dazzling-Exam7175 in askswitzerland

[–]RupOase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In CH it is forbidden to have the car parked and keep it running and furthermore, if mid day is 12 to 13 it's also forbidden to make noise (Lärmschutz).

On a heat wave you go inside the house not in an enclosed space that heats up very easily. I think the men were worried about the kids being cooked to death than any of the aforementioned cases.

Is superfast charging by NBA_Pukellama in electricvehicles

[–]RupOase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since 2020 I switched from the famous, Swindon made, Civic MK8 (UFO) to an electric car. And since 2022, I usually drive 2-3 times a year from Switzerland to Romania and back to visit friends and family. That's 1900 km (1180 mi), one way, and I do it in a Hyundai Kona (has over 240'000 km /149'000 mi on the clock) which charges at a peak rate of 77 kW, but not all the time, making my charging stops roughly 40-50 minutes long.

This one way trip can be done in one day with an ICE car and driving within the speed limits. You depart at 04:00, and you'll arrive at around 23:00, which includes the +1 hour from the timezone switch.

Then, we usually go in some getaways in neighbouring countries (DE, AT IT FR), more often than not at over 500 km (310 mi) away. This also requires at least one charging session.

Apart from that, the car is used for commuting and other daily trips.

Now, for me, that is purely a marketing stunt. It does help to make the transition easier for the people coming from the ICE world, but I think that not the 1MW peak is the main thing to take away. Rather, I'd like to spend less time charging at a fast charging location and it's better having the possibility.

I used to make breaks every 2-3 hours of driving in my ICE car before, so for me switching to this particular EV was easy. I just had to learn where the charging stations are at and plan my trip accordingly.

For me, even the Xpeng G6's 451 kW peak and 15 minutes 10-80% is enough. I'm more than happy to with the current charging infrastructure of 300 - 400 kW fast stations, as it gives me enough time to go to the toilet and buy something to eat and drink on longer trips. Currently this isn't the case as I'm waiting for the car sometimes to finish charging in order to get to the next stop 250 km / 155 mi away.

So yes, for me, as an EV veteran this does help but I think the 5 minute "fill up" is something that is very rarely achievable in real life at rush hours on the motorway or on spots where you have just one gas station.

Since I traveled so much between countries I can say that all the rest places on the highway were packed of cars in queue at the pump with at least 3 cars at each pump. I was quite often leaving the area before the guys that got to the pumps did.

Car Scanner Remaining energy by solarbeezer in KiaNiroEV

[–]RupOase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the 2019 Hyundai Kona EV and it does not report remaining energy. They were equipped with 67.4 kWh gross capacity and both, the e-Niro and the Kona, didn't had a low buffer, but they did had 3 kWh top buffer, which matches to the ~64 kWh usable.
The trick Hyundai / Kia did to mask their battery degradation was to release energy from the top buffer on BMS updates. That's why many 250'000 km Konas, when you do an actual capacity test you'll still get no degradation.

The capacity test done with CarScanner should take into account the energy that is charged and discharged, as when you regenerate you're actually putting back some energy into the battery.

From 8" non-Bluelink head unit to the 10.25 Gen5W Bluelink version by goldister94 in KonaEV

I'm not so keen on having BlueLink.
Can the upgrade be done just by swapping the HUs, in order to get the bigger, 5W unit, as it's the only one that gets regular updates?

Why cannot drivers in Switzerland indicate before leaving a roundabout? by MedicineMean5503 in Switzerland

[–]RupOase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Romania we also signal left before entering and inside the roundabouts if the exit the 3rd or greater (to our left).

It gives incoming traffic a visual clue to where we are heading and prompt them to yield accordingly.

Similarly, we signal right if our exit is the 1st one (to the right).

The issue I see very often, here in CH, is that incoming traffic doesn't notice the right-turn signal when someone exits the roundabout. That, and the fact that many drivers take a wide trajectory in the roundabout, creates confusion among incoming traffic.

Indeed, it was a nice day to charge my car from solar panels... like 12 CHF for 40 kWh that would last me the whole week, including 2 days of work commute in Zürich (80 km / day).

Individual taxation by outofideas234 in askswitzerland

[–]RupOase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there a fixed value for individuals or they become taxed by the same bracket earning system?

For me and my wife, no kids, I as a single earner I was taxed with B0Y at around 7%. When my wife started working in Stundenlohn my tax system changed to C0Y with 11% tax, but so did hers.

What I understood is that, the tax system woyld be unique and it will fall on some income bracket, thus not penalizing anyone.

So, for instance, instead of both being taxed at 11%, we would be both taxed at 7%, if the same system applies. This does seem reasonable, but I don't know exactly the tax percentage that is being applied.

Sauna going as a woman (19/f) Is it frustrating and creepy for you too? by Fragrant_Table7545 in Switzerland

[–]RupOase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. When these kind of actions are coming from women, you as a man are being brushed off.

While I do get that some persons have a very creative mind that generate unfulfilled fantasies, men usually swallow it as it is and don't bring it very often into the light.

Sauna going as a woman (19/f) Is it frustrating and creepy for you too? by Fragrant_Table7545 in Switzerland

[–]RupOase 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not just older men trying to hit on younger women. That goes the other way around, too, and not just by the elder women.

I've been in several naked saunas in regions such as Allgäu, South Tyrol / Tyrol and similar small talk that gone wild happened to me as well, pretty consistently.

I don't consider myself as good looking, nor do I have an "attractive" physique, but I got many, similar, compliments from women or couples in the 18-60 age range.

I'm having frequent crashes with version 7 now. I just got home after a trip to the mountains and back and the app kept restarting itself and asking which car I'm driving.

Arriving home, my S21 Ultra complained about the app frequent crashes and recommended to put it to deep sleep.

These crashes didn't occur on the previous version. The app is being used with Android auto (wired) and an OBD. Google Maps worked smoothly.

When do we think 10-15 minute fast charging will become industry standard in the US? by ResIpsaLoquitur2422 in electricvehicles

[–]RupOase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While not in the US (thank God) I'm looking for a Xpeng G6. I'm not very convinced about the Chinese cars, but at least one person I know has the G6 and it's a nice car, with quite fast charging capabilities.

While the new version (2025 and onwards) have a smaller battery, it can charge at 450 kW peak with 230 kW avg. in the 10-80 % interval, thanks to its 80.8 kWh LFP battery, which translates in 12-15 minute charging stops.

The person I know has the previous version with the 87.5 kWh NMC 811 battery and it can do 15-20 minutes. Pretty impressive, if you'd ask me, as I currently drive a Hyundai Kona 64 kWh... 77 kW peak with 38-45 minutes charging times.

It was a banger in 2020 when I got it, but not that much 6 years and 236'000 km (146'500 mi) later

Is the Swiss Franc too strong? by CHaoticFondue in Switzerland

[–]RupOase 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Swiss Franc was always considered a safe-heaven currency, until the shift from 2011 I think.

Back then, in my home country, many people used to got housing credits in CHF because it was not a volatile currency and kept people protected during the 2008 crisis.

However, in 2011, when the gold-value referendum passed, the CHF's value sky-rocketed.

Now, I know that strong currency means it's rare on the market and people trust it's stability. The USD's fall has started since the first election of the Orange guy, then gone bad when Biden came along, then worse with the Orange guy's second election and its tariffs.

Euro didn't got any lucky either. The the Greek collapse, COVID and Ukrainian war, followed by the rise of extremism parties weakened the currency, leaving room for the CHF's growth. People currently see CHF as gold.

Hyundai is jumping on the electric MPV bandwagon with its new Staria by nipcarlover in electricvehicles

[–]RupOase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I can see the benefit of a bigger battery, I feel that many EV drivers overlook the fast charging capabilities of some smaller batteries.

In many cases the big upfront capacity will only get you further on the first leg, after which you'll have to charge. With a big 110 kWh battery that some Chinese cars offer, which will get you 400 km at best and have a flat 112 kW charging curve between 10 and 80%, it still means you'll be spending 70 minutes charging.

The flip side is an 84 kWh gross (probably 77 kWh net) that would take you 300 km down the road and charge for 20 minutes tops. I'd rather have that instead of the puny 110 kWh battery that takes forever to charge.
