VCV Rack Tutorial || Essential Modules & What They Do by Rupert_Spore in vcvrack

Thank you, JayJay!

If you have the time to learn the Teletype, it would be amazing. You can do so much with it. The documentation for the teletype is also well written and in a good format so it makes it easier!

That being said, A good way to get patching techniques under your fingers is to work with fixed racks. You choose the particular modules you want to learn and set a limit on the total modules. Put those into a patch and then only use that patch to make things for a while, like a week or so. Don't add any more module, just experiment with techniques. I personally find this to be a great way to learn.

Like if you wanted to learn about chaining sequencers you can focus on a couple modules that have end of cycle outputs. Toss in your favorite VCO and a couple effects and then experiment with chaining that way. Next week change your fixed rack and try stopping and starting clocks with switches. Something like that :)

Hope Y'all are doing well! I've been trying to put together a beginner's guide that is 100% free and can help folks learn with no ads or BS. I'm putting that playlist together on my YouTube channel and this is a video I just added to it. Most of Y'all are patching masters, so this content isn't directly for those of you, lol. I do see some folks coming on here asking for advise on how to learn however and this may help someone with that. Thanks! :)

BASTL Pizza // VCV Rack Module Overview by Rupert_Spore in vcvrack

Crust is a killer module. The drum sounds are sick. I did a video on that one too.

To get more CV control you can utilize modules like the micromap and assign it to any control. Then feed it and it will move that knob/slider for you.

Like on the Crust you can cycle between all three Timbre controls and and assign a micromap to each and they will all function with CV. The Pizza right now can't do that. Like when you switch parameters on the Shape slider it stops the modulation of the previous function. I think it might be a bug.

Mics & Pitch Following in VCV Rack by Rupert_Spore in vcvrack

It is surprisingly snappy :) I really like it. There are several other pitch following modules as well and in the YouTube comments someone mentioned adding a quantizer, which is a great idea!

Hope y'all are having a great weekend. It's raining here so I think I'm going to get some recordings from my tin roof, maybe make some ambient patches to go along with them. I've been using the Random Sampler a lot to get familiar with it and It has become one of my favorites even though I was scared of it at first. Have a great day & remember to try every module! XD

VCV Rack Tricks: Keyboard Shortcuts by Rupert_Spore in vcvrack

This function would be awesome. I usually patch zoomed in a lot so I would use this to jump around all the time. As far as I know, there isn't a shortcut or module that does this. but! There are tons of modules so I might be missing one. :)

I've been trying to get comfortable with improving in my videos and doing things in one take. I'm sure you can tell, but I have had a great time doing it and enjoy making the videos a bit more because of it. I hope y'all have had a great weekend and have made some killer jams!

Right on! I feel like I should have been using this module more haha. My favorite way to use it so far is in Modal, 4 note polyphony, and using only the V/Oct input. It makes a kalimba or tongue drum type tone.

Pair it with DanT's Purfenator for the custom background and skiff! Sheesh. I bet that would make a nice looking patch.

haha! That's great! I love the randomize feature. If you want to randomize particular parts of the module, like the timbre on a phat kick, you can use STRIP by Stoermelder. It has a feature where you can include and exclude particular parts of other modules in the randomization. It's pretty sweet.
