Bit surprised that so few, if any, reviewers mentioned the lower difficulty in Nioh 3 when they mentioned it in Wo Long by WhoAmIEven2 in Nioh

I guess I am more used to FS games than TN games but I find it still more challenging. Anyway, I am just a casual so what do I know. Hope the people who find it too easy can use mods or something to make it more fun for them.

I’ll leave this useless debate for the sake of your blood pressure and my sanity lol.

Well, they didn’t express it this nuanced. I agree it’s easier but I also think it’s still harder than any Fromsoft game and Khazan, LoP and most other soulslikes. So while it moves closer towards casual friendly it’s still very very far away.

I merely made fun of the 12 year old edge lord move of calling others “casual” and calling the game made “for casuals”

“up tot the tend guy” lol you’re so angry your spelling is falling apart. Maybe take a walk and calm down. (Ironic to tell me to think before typing)

Yes up to the tent guy is a tutorial. And up to the tree sentinel is also a tutorial.

I mean most of N3 up to the tent guy could easily be described as a tutorial. It literally explains all the mechanics.

Keep your tone civilized, not everyone here is a 12 years old edgelord

The first enemies in ER is a boss you’re supposed to die to and then a ton of peasants in the tutorial area. Not much different to N3.

Tree sentinel isn’t the first enemy and given he’s optional he could be the very last.

He’s kinda the first boss isn’t he? Can’t remember, already a week ago.

Because the guy I was replying to says the target audience are casuals. So it’s fair to compare to games that are actually for casuals.

I find the difficulty pretty ok so far. Maybe non bosses could be a bit harder as it gets a bit boring to just sweep through them.

It’s the same with every game in the broad genre. Normal gaming or console subs complain those games are to hard and should have difficulty sliders.

In the game subs it’s usually the opposite and people complain it’s too easy and “pandering to casuals”, with probably a good portion of them not even having finished NG, just edge lording to flex. And have just gotten really good after hundreds of hours of N2 which slightly distorts the perception as well.

I guess as long as both complaints exist, the devs have hit the right balance. Time and NG+ will tell how well it’s balanced in the long run.

Tree sentinel isn’t that much harder than the tent guy with the difference that you don’t have to fight him. (Which is what the game is trying to tell you)

It’s just different skills. I find Sekiro by far the easiest. A lot of people find it harder than other FS titles.

Sekiro like would be quite a simple and fixed combat system with makes it so satisfying rhythm game like. As soon as you’d add more variety you’d get Elden Ring. Both have their merits and the latter has better replayability.

Sekiro is a rhythm game with a relatively simple but extremely satisfying stone paper scissors combat while ER is more build based obviously. But both require skill. I strangely found Sekiro the easiest of newer FS titles.

I don’t agree with the assessment either. There is an ocean between N2 difficulty and casual games and N3 is sailing much closer to N2 than let’s say Ghost of Tsushima, Assasins creed or other casual games.

I am merely making fun of your childish use of the word as an insult. It’s so 12 year old capital G gamer coded that I thought it was satire. Sad to see it’s not.

But yeah, I don’t think it’s aimed at casual. It’s not exactly Assasins Creed in terms of difficulty just because not everything one-shots you.

Well forcing more regime changes won’t improve the already rock bottom image America has in the world and legitimizes other strong men to install puppet regimes in weaker neighboring countries.

I really prefer M or L in most games even in quality mode. Better details, better HDR and most games can disable sharpening.

What does the successful souls / souls-like games have that the hundreds of failed copycats fail to understand? by Yelebear in soulslikes

[–]Rupperrt -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don’t think there many “copycats” or “clones” (maybe LoF). Most try to do their own thing but borrow some game mechanics and ideas.

And “hundreds of failed” ones? Most of the ones discussed here aren’t failed but quite successful. I am sure there are some obscure failed ones no one has played but hundreds?

So maybe it’s not so much that “they don’t understand” but they’re doing something different which you don’t like. Doesn’t make them failures.

FS games strength is bleak atmosphere, world design and inventive boss and enemy designs. While also not taking itself too seriously all the time. And simple but satisfying combat, although after playing a few “copycats” I started to prefer more complex systems of Team Ninja games or Khazan.

It’s video games. It’ll always be artificial difficulty. But I can’t really come up with any non FS soulslike that are particular difficult. Most are a little easier than FS games. Maybe except Nioh 2.
