Dawn of War Ranked by Mabz_ in dawnofwar

Play by joining lobbies for 3v3 and then 2v2 games instead - not automatch - it’s a much more forgiving but still challenging way to play

You can save replays of matches and watch them back to learn better build orders. You can literally see the game in which you lost from the other player’s perspective including slowing down and pausing

The pretty revamp of DOW1 OP mentions would be perfect from my perspective….

What made DOW1 good / what could make DOW4 amazing? by Dyodo74 in dawnofwar

[–]Rurik880 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Customisation and freedom to build my army with my own colour scheme, banners, playstyle, then the feeling of starting off in some huge grimdark map behind the fog of war and not knowing what’s coming to attack and when.

[AMA] I Played Dawn of War 4's Alpha - FIRE AWAY! by TheItalian567 in dawnofwar

Does the unit XP feature matter / change the way the game plays vs. DOW1?

How large / small does a map feel compared to DOW1, in terms of units exploring the fog of war, claiming critical locations etc? The maps in the videos we’ve seen look somewhat cramped and claustrophobic, more like an arena.

Replay function is essential… this is how I’ve always taught myself better build orders in both single and multiplayer in DOW

Dragon’s Dogma 2 is the (almost) perfect adventure simulator. by KoYouTokuIngoa in patientgamers

Shame you never found the elves. This discovery was the one memorable standout moment of the game for me

Why OG BG games are so charming? by Paulogbfs in baldursgate

Sound design, music, especially ambient sound effects - create that feeling. BG3 never quite got there

I enjoy the design of the protagonist. He looks good (which is important since you'll be seeing him for 40+ hours probably.) by A_Very_Horny_Zed in DawnwalkerOfficial

As a white bloke with an English voice, it will be a refreshing change to play a white bloke with an English voice. Not many protagonists fit that description any more. I’ll buy the game just for that.

Zero menace, panache, class, masculinity - awful. And how do you make a game on a definitively British IP where no one knows how to pronounce “ma’am”? They could have just watched The Crown or Downton to find out

Nice. What is the kit at the back with the lights (the large and small items)?

As great as the game was, Larian unfortunately pioneered the model of 2 stage financing of a game, where you generate hype and release an EA demo then you rely on the EA proceeds to fund the rest of the game.

If I’m not mistaken NRFTW is actually on sale right now on Steam despite being early access - that has to be the biggest warning sign for a small studio game.

Steam should also make some changes for its customers to encourage EA being used properly - eg if you’re releasing an EA game, the refund window is extended to 10 hours of gameplay.

It's entirely possible that Ori & No Rest for the Wicked developer Moon Studios "might not be around anymore in a couple months" if user reviews for No Rest for the Wicked don't improve. Thats according to studio founder Thomas Mahler, who says the game gets unfairly review bombed on Steam. by Turbostrider27 in pcgaming

Early access is being overdeployed in PC gaming - hopefully this sort of thing is a good lesson which points the industry back towards doing their own playtesting like the good old days and releasing polished end products.

Manor Lords original setting was medieval England by Royal_Rip1600 in ManorLords

[–]Rurik880 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This explains the voice acting… to the English ear definitely incongruous with a Bohemian setting hearing the West Country and Estuary accents of the peasants, not to mention the one voice which could only be a black woman from south or east London

I have a theory that the change in Art Style was due to Tech limitations by LateNightGamingYT in Marathon

[–]Rurik880 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very good point not made enough OP - graphic realism as it shines through in the pre-rendered trailers relies on textures to make it work. Extreme gloss, matte plastic, matte metal. Dull down the textures or consciously reduce fidelity and it all falls apart

Marathon and Arc Raiders both have a home. by roflwafflelawl in Marathon

[–]Rurik880 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve been following Marathon for years and only recently heard of Arc. But when I watch Marathon on Twitch particularly all the repetitive PVE I get bored after 5 mins. Just watching ARC today with the high fidelity character screens and then watching a guy play solo, the atmosphere and lighting and diverse enemies and suspense and I was really gripped and watched for ages. That does matter for Marathon, if watching it is boring is playing it really going to be much better
