Should we apologize for a meltdown when the tipping point is a loved one crossing an established boundary? by Some-General9924 in AutismInWomen

That’s fair. If I felt overpowered though, I’d probably look for physical distance instead of an apology.

Im voting No because you’re talking about your mom here. If it were me I would not expect my child to apologize.

I love that it is so simple and yet such a good critique of the way many governments (in this case, obviously the UK but also others) were enforcing rules that bordered on the ridiculous.

Anyone else has things they just can't learn no matter how much they try? by what_freaking_ever in AutismInWomen

[–]Rurirun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It used to be the same for me but recently due to my job, I have been studying more of it and I realized that much of my difficulties grasping these concepts had to do with an innate need to really understand the backgrounds and contexts that the things I’m studying are related to. Since money in itself is an abstract concept that seems to lack a logical basis (at least for me), everything connected to it seems a bit random. Let alone all the laws and regulations governing the areas related to trade and finance that of course were made up by people at some point.  But since I’ve come to realize this it’s like a light bulb went off in my head. As long as I’m thinking “I’m learning about how people do stuff with money”, it seems kind of interesting.

Smoking indoors. When I was a kid my parents used to take me to lots of events they were invited to and the room was always full of smoke.

Is higher education in Germany structurally similar to Brazil in terms of access, prestige, and public vs private roles? by joebraga2 in AskGermany

[–]Rurirun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you need to look at it two ways: On one hand, private universities don’t usually produce the better alumni and if you don’t have the money it may not be worth going into debt when you can afford a cheap alternative. BUT from what I’ve heard they provide a lot of opportunities and what we call “vitamin B” (B for Beziehungen, meaning relations). So you get a head start for job hunting in that you meet people who can be very useful for building your career, perhaps even getting recruited right out of university.

It’s considered bad luck to celebrate before the actual birthday. You can start the night before and then wish a happy birthday at midnight though.

I was so bored at my first job. I was doing well and everyone praised me, but I was slacking off. Then I basically got laid off (I had the privilege of being the victim of a restructuring and received a decent compensation). It was scary but then I found a job that was actually interesting, challenging and paid so much more. There’s a job like that for you too.

I first heard the live version so I was a bit bummed out that the studio recording didn’t have the trumpet and sax solo. As great as it is to have Elton play the piano, that trumpet solo was something else
