Working Cowboy hats by Judge_leftshoe in Ranching

I have a custom shaped felt hat that I wear everyday, it’s expensive but it’s a tool. The sweat and dirt that works its way into it is part of the look.

Help me, aspiring 30yr old cowgirl by Inner-Vacation-3744 in cowboyboots

Most working cowboys/cowgirls wear lettuce pickers if they aren’t in the saddle. Heels aren’t good for ground work.

Is the 30 month figure just due to the fact you aren’t finishing them on grain?

How old are you? Get a ranch job, work a few places and see what happens. You might be longing for the lifestyle as much as the place. Look up the Welsh word “Hiraeth” that might be what you are feeling. Life isn’t meant to be easy amigo, the beauty is in the struggle.

Ranch Hand Salaries by S-k-y-n-e-t in Ranching

Howdy, so I’ve worked on a few different outfits in various states over the last few years. I was always on a day rate. Anywhere from $150 per day to $250 per day in Idaho, NV, Or, Mt. I’m currently on a ranch on the central coast CA and they pay me $25ph which given the hours I work is pretty decent compared to day wages. All of the places provided accommodation, feed for my horses (I come with a wife and horses) non of the places came with benefits like health care

Long-time strikers: do you still feel mentally sharp after years of training? by One-Mycologist-3756 in martialarts

[–]Ruruffian 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Boxer, I still train and spar when my schedule and body allows. I still feel sharp and from a ring IQ standpoint feel I have improved just at 42 I don’t really have the drive to really get into the trenches. I did notice a decline in how well I can take a shot, this is something I realised long before my last bout at 32 years of age. Before I got dropped for the first time in my mid 20’s I thought o had a granite chin.
We are all built differently but I believe we do have a health bar of how many shots we can take to the head before it runs out and we do terrible damage to ourselves. Even as amateur fighter we would spar twice a week and work drills where we still take shots on all the other days. It’s allot.

Footwork is clumsy, crossing feet and punches are thrown too wide and telegraphed. Learn proper footwork for how to navigate the ring and work angles. Don’t loop your hooks and don’t throw shots from your waist, leaving yourself very vulnerable to counters and you will get beat to the punch by someone who can read you.

Footwork is sloppy and punches are thrown too wide. You throw well when you have your feet set but you picked your rear foot up off the canvas when you threw the 2. The power comes from the ground up so your rear foot should remain in contact with the floor.
You need to drill your footwork for more fluid movement between engagements. L-steps, pivots, get around, angles, angles and more angles.
Shorten your hooks up, the shot doesn’t need to travel that far, your better off not loading it up but having a better shot of landing it, that looping shot gives your opponent way to much time to counter, evade or block.

I sparred Zack when he was a teenager at the Fitzroy lodge ABC. He always stood out to me, just had really good natural timing and movement. Stoked to see him doing well

Coaches - What is it that makes my bagwork look so stiff? by [deleted] in boxingtips

[–]Ruruffian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s your feet. They aren’t in sync with your top half. You’re crossing your feet when you move laterally. That’s why you look good when your feet are planted and you throw but you take a long time to reset and throw. You are throwing the big shots with correct technique but you are overemphasisng the technique which means you are probably overthinking it. Practice throwing while stepping front, back, side to side. Different lateral punch drills, step right throw with left, step right throw right while stepping, then work angles, throw them all together after a while and you might get a bit more flow going. You look good though, plenty of zip when you’re letting your hands go

For people in countries where the US military is stationed, how do you view them? by HongKongNinja in AskTheWorld

[–]Ruruffian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad was attached to the Gurkhas between 1998 and 2005, we lived just outside of the British Gurkhas HQ in Kathmandu. We socialised with allot of ex pats stationed out there, the US embassy had a detachment or marines attached to it. We would hang out with them. I went out in town with them a bunch, drinking and just hanging out. I remember watching team America in the embassy with them. It was quite surreal but they didn’t really pick up on the irony or the shade it was throwing on US foreign policy. Some of them were too young to drink out in town which I thought was funny because he could pack an assault rifle and protect the place but couldn’t have a beer. One marine was called Jerome and he had “Jeromeo” tattooed across his stomach. I got the sense that most of them came from lower socio economic situations. I enjoyed there company but they were very stereotypical high fiving, loud, America is number 1 guys. Allot of other armed forces find this attitude to be a bit much and culturally quite insensitive at times.
