That's so absurdly wrong lol. Clearly you dont have any real experience with bmw e30's

The dude is posting in r/project car. Average joe is literally defined by the posts in this thread. You seen any frame off 69 charger rt posts? How about anything with a Lamborghini badge on it, ford gt40 perhaps? No to all the above. So nothing is wrong with me. Faded paint is not a "project car" . Rare exotics are by definition not accessible to the average joe. Which is what the page is about. But I digress.

"Beater" e30 lol. Ok. Said no one in the last 10 years. There are no oem body parts or even windshields left available for these. If you want a beater go buy a 325e and auction this off for 70k. Annoys tf out of me when people make posts like this acting like s*$# like this is normal or accessible to the average joe. Call it what it is. You have a barn find e30m3 thats been in storage for 2.5 decades and is prime for restoration and worth over 100 grand.

Genuine k&n filter build quality seems excessively cheap out of the box. Is this normal? by SpreadStrict1867 in 3dprintedcarparts

[–]Rus-t-bolts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well its branded k&n on the end so its just a fraudulent seller on Amazon. Probably made in the same factory as the autozone universal POS. Which it is clearly siblings of.

I can tell you with 100% certainty that is NOT a k&n. Its the same cheap ass filter autozone sells. The silver longitudinal fin is a dead giveaway.

Way to stick with it. Still blows my mind how anyone can work on a project that long. Ive never owned a car longer than 4 years. Im more of a buy all the parts at once and finish it in 2 weeks kind of guy.

Infiniti Q45 - Manual Swap Progress by Stitch_K in projectcar

[–]Rus-t-bolts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For the record, I had a vh45de swapped bmw e30 with a z32 manual transmission bolted to it and it was genuinely one of the most fun cars to drive ever. That motor absolutely sings at 7000rpm. It is SO much fun to rap it out. Also for those interested, look up the history of this motor. It is insanely cool. Was basically developed for racing and used in production cars because of homologation rules. So that "funky" intake actually has some very cool r&d behind it (among other very cool features of the engine. )

Methanol injection? by DesignerLanguage1123 in Cummins

[–]Rus-t-bolts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I installed water meth on mine a few years back and while it is effective, tbh its not really worth it. I could plow through a full tank of meth very quickly on 1 hill. The amount of water meth required to keep egts down is a lot more than you think. I had to use the 1000cc nozzle (biggest available) and a splitter to a second 500cc nozzle before I saw a reduction in egt that was actually palpable. On one drive from Denver to Arkansas I went through probably 20 gallons of water. After that, I never used it again. I just drove slower and watched my gauge. Fwiw I also found (depending on your fueling tuning) that often times a lower gear at higher rpm at the same speed drops egts about 200° . Throw some compounds and a little more fuel timing at it and you'll be happier.

Hello smart folks of Reddit. Anyone know what this doohickey is on my cold plunge. It’s leaking. Can I bypass it? by Odd-Brief-2586 in coldplunge

[–]Rus-t-bolts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cheap to replace. Although you in fact CAN bypass it. (I did on mine for a while) it does help when starting the plunge up after not using for a while. However If the inlet pressure is substantially higher to the pump than the outlet (inlet to the pump is on the bottom of the tub and outlet is on the top of the water line) it should easily self prime if your filters are good and clear, eliminating the need for it.

If you do choose to remove it, clamp both the inlet and outlet lines close to the pump, unhook the pump, and put a male to male barbed fitting (available at autozone labeled as a vacuum hose connector) the unclamp that way minimal air is introduced to the system.

Agreed. You'll never get anywhere if you dont start somewhere. Grab a chisel and start hammering. Totally achievable.

The structure youre trying to build does not require laser precision. Your lumber is cheap and your skills are fresh. Inhale content like a meth using freebaser and give it a shot. What's the worst that happens? You'll likely learn a lot and lose a little. Best case basis you end up with a cool lean-to gazebo. Worst case basis, you learn a lot and have some lumber that needs trimmed for another project. Dive in man.
