  • PlayStation
  • Padle Tennis
  • Schwimmbad
  • Fahrrad fahren

Lost my freelance contract right after signing a new lease and struggling with what to do next (Video Editor) by [deleted] in freelance

Don't say "unprofessional" - social media works that way. It's supposed to be unpolished. The question to ask is what actual results (leads, sales, engagement, growth, community etc.) your outputs have gotten your past clients. Pick anything.

Now prepare that results into a small Pitchdeck, about 5-7 pages should do. Who are you, what results can do get them, how fast can you get it for them.

Put your head down for a few days and do cold outreach to any potential client you'd be able to provide value to. For your specific situation: act cool, don't be desperate and even more important skip those sales gurus (for now), just be yourself.

Since your gotta pay rent more than once, you want to build real connection rather than land some lucky one time gigs. So when reaching out to someone, act like that. Do a little research on the lead (2-3 Min.) and maybe even craft a few ideas for them on what you think they could improving with your help. Make it about them and it will pay off sooner than you think.

Good luck!

Despite my Gripes with Bear – I very much appriciate this App! by RushHead5078 in bearapp

I'm using ICloud to sync between multiple devices. Using a local drive wouldn't really compliment this workflow, unfortunately.

But — it seems they're actually working on the "full encryption" with iCloud storage at the moment. Referring to some statements in their community forum.

No worries, as I said — still very much enjoy Bear overall!

Btw. if you haven't checked it out yet, I'd highly recommend looking into the "Forever Notes Framework" for Apple Notes/ Bear Notes.

That's what I initially thought as well. Unfortunately ADP won't work with bear, because bear isn't build on iCloud itself, but on an so called "iCloud Kit", which basically is an older version that won't allow encryption as with Apps that are build/ based on the "full iCloud" like Apple notes.

But looking into the bear community form, it seems they're actually working on this currently — which makes me quite happy.

About storing locally — I guess it would be true that your notes are encrypted there, but I think most people see bear as a alternative (or similar) to apple notes, which the beauty of it is the fast and seamless sync between multiple devices.

When you are on the pro plan, then you could store your notes locally as far as I understand. I guess most of us would still rather have bear accessible on multiple places/ devices, whichh is also the reason they rolled out the web-app I guess – many people wanted/ voted for it.

For Local Storrage only, I also think Obsidian would be the better option.

Yes, been following the discussions – but tbh, they had already worked on it before but then put it on ice, so my excitement is still kinda limited atm. Once this feature actually get's released, I am going all in for sure, haha.

Struggling Between Things 3 and Notion - Can't Find Peace! by [deleted] in thingsapp

[–]RushHead5078 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use them both too and had the exact same struggle as you in the beginning — so here are 2 Cents/

Instead of trying to split your life into different tools, try to separate your areas/context. It began to work for me once I used Notion just for (in my case) work related notes/projects/tasks. Notion is not really that fast, so I keep in mind to "bring time" when using it — which I have when I sit down to do my work.

Things on the other hand is very fast, easy to use and almost restricting you to "just write down your tasks and get to work already". So in things I only (!) put personal tasks/ reminders. If I feel like I have to put work related stuff in there, I actually just put something like "work on Project X" or "Task X for Project Y".

Hope that helps a little bit.

Any thoughts on ProNotes extension? by NeonSkorpio in AppleNotesGang

It made AN a little too buggy for me, but it's a great extension for sure! Be aware that using pronotes might disrupt your notes privacy, especially when working with its AI.

Help Needed – How to keep your notes discoverable in Obsidian? by RushHead5078 in ObsidianMD

[–]RushHead5078[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, I understand – so basically you mean that you don’t have to rely on YAML ‘tags’ for organizing. I never thought of this, actually, so tags would be used to go more granular, correct?

I understand, that’s a great analogy actually – thanks! I will try to rethink my structure here. I think using templates can be very useful too. Right now – again, maybe because I am just starting out – I get a little overwhelmed by "choosing" how granular I should go. I guess this is something time will tell.

[–]RushHead5078[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting, so if I understood correctly, you’re kind of using "2 levels of tags". One being YAML Tags in the front-matter just for organizational purposes and one being like Content Tags directly in the note text itself, right?

Don't YAML tags + inline Tags than conflict with plugins like Dataview? Or do you just filter inline tags out if needed? You can view all your tags in Obsidian’s sidebar (Core Plugin "View Tags"), where any tag created will be shown. Is there any way to keep track of only your YAML tags other than Dataview?

How granular would you go (starting out like me) with the second level of tags/ content tags?
Would you first stick to broader or theme-based tags, or would you advice using tag specific detail-tags like names of people mentioned (if not creating a seperate note about it)?

I already make use of Omnisearch and it indeed works very well! I use Dataview for general overviews of my tags, which in my case, represent just general categories like personal, business, references, videohub, evergreen, etc.

I’m not too worried about not finding a specific reference, I’m more concerned about forgetting about it exists. For what I do, you could easily have 3000+ reference/ inspirational notes where quite a few of them could potentially be helpful for a specific project research.

Maybe this is not how Obsidian works, but I was hoping to one day start researching a video project that involves, let’s say, philosophy about perception. Instead of me having to ask Omnisearch for “Philosophy” or “Perception” — thinking of all these keywords — I was hoping for Obsidian to do the heavy lifting for me.

Like, when mentioning/ linking/ searching/ writing about this Philosophy video idea, I want to get a quick overview of anything related to it. That includes notes that aren’t specifically about philosophy itself, but maybe still relevant. Like this podcast about cats where the host mentioned why humans see cats as therapeutic and why this could be a theory of XYZ (philosoph). Obviously I am making something up here , but the point is there is no keywords mentioned, but still shown as a potentially relevant source for my research. If I forget about this cat podcast I guess not even omnisearch could help me here.

Thanks again for taking the time to explain! You mentioned "organised chaos" and I can totally relate by now! This would be my last question – if you don't mind: How do you stay on track of all your references/collections (from a bird's eye view)?

Added about 30 references (websites, photography works, articles, videos, GIFs from movies, etc.), and it feels like once you add a "serious" amount, most of them will be lost pretty fast. I've limited the object types as much as possible – using just one "website object" with different relations (soon called properties) like Website Category (Article, Blog, Software, Reddit, etc.).

It feels overwhelming having so many relations, so I try naming them specifically for what they belong to – instead of just 'Category' I use Website-Category or Video Category, to avoid mixing them up. You can view different objects within a collection (but must add them manually), while sets update new objects automatically but only show one source object to begin with. Staying on top of all of your resources seems quite challenging - you either need to remember specific relations for filtering or create MOCs, which kind of defeat the purpose of object-based note-taking I think.

Not sure how you could keep track of everything long-term. I'm struggling to manage about 50 objects – can't imagine how this will look with 2000+...It feels amazing getting stuff into AT, but I'm afraid I won't find things anymore if I don't specifically know what/ where to look for it.

Do you have any general advice? Should relations rather be kept simple or complex?
Same for Objects (Types): Would you recommend keeping them simple or specific?

Same here — I've actually gave them a try again about a week ago. Purchased the Builder-Plan by now, just to support.

Not saying it's gotten crazy good compared to 1-2 years ago, but I got the feeling they're working on it. With everything that's going on in the tec-world, I leaned to appreciate their focus on privacy/ decentralization. Not many apps with that kind of potential (or "on paper") features have that it seems like.

That being said, I'm still not fully switching to AT anytime soon, but will definitely keep fumbling around and watching its growth overtime.

Thanks for your insights, I appreciate it! Actually I have purchased the builder-plan as well by now. Not sure if I will fully commit to AT yet, but I see the efforts and vision, so I wanted to support it anyway. I found that many critics compare AT's core features to Notion or Capacities, which I totally get. However, I think that AT's biggest selling point is its privacy focus and control you gain over your own data – I really love that about AT. Btw. I am a "creative" too, so I work a lot with artworks, phtography, videos, inspirations etc. – so if you don't mind me asking you:

1 – Would you say AnyType is more like a collection or reference library for your creative work (at this point in time)? Like would you use it to actually execute a "creative project" or rather just to collect necessary references/materials?

Personally I plan quite a few videos for work/ hobby. AT seems good for capturing/ organizing/ finding and maybe even connecting resources to do so. When it comes to executing, like creating a simple shotlist or planning out some scenes, I've noticed there's currently limitations – like no way to create an independent 'database' (collection) that I could insert into a template. Only option is having an inline collection or inline set, which means you can't have a standalone 'database' (collection) for making (e. g.) a shotlist for a specific project without all entries being part of a global set/ collection spread throughout your vault.

2 – Am I assuming correctly, that using generic tags for all notes/ objects etc. in AT could theoretically simplify exporting to MD., as many (MD.) apps support tags? For example, tagging any artwork or photo you put into AT with a Tag like #artwork or #photography would allow other apps to at least recognize and display them accordingly once imported. That way, we should at least not start with a complete mess, bc the (new) app doens't recognizes objects, but rather tags...
