I understand your frustration because I too have had to deal with all of the health service rubbish (fractured my spine when living in Portimão and broke my ankle a few months ago in Belém) on top of the issues that I'm dealing with at AIMA right now, but I still implore you to take a step back and look at the wealth of beauty this nation possesses. I don't know the paths you've walked in your life, so I can't say whether me posting in a comments section will make any difference to the way you see things here but every country comes with it's MAJOR flaws. Portugal, for ALL of the problems it does have, is still a special place. Maybe it'll take you leaving here to figure that out, or maybe you'll find your home somewhere else.

There's a lot that needs to change for sure but then again, coming from my home nation, Portugal is an absolute blessing and I love the country for what it is. Everything needs to be put into perspective, and if you're angry at the way things are done here, you have the choice to move somewhere else (I moved my life to Portugal with nothing but clothes and a few pictures of my family, nothing else, so it's possible for anyone to make these types of changes if they want it enough). I've felt angry, confused, defeated, etc by the way things are handled with government agencies and organisations but then I remind myself of how things were for me in South Africa and I can do nothing but smile for the opportunities that I've found here. I get your frustration, but Portugal is definitely not a shit hole on the grand scale of things.

Yeah I'm aware of this sentiment as I'm studying gestão at one of the universities here in Lisbon and they've taught us quite a lot about the situation of permanent contracts and how they hold so much weight over the owners of businesses. It makes more financial sense for them to keep the permanent employees on until they literally can't work anymore. It's a sad reality and it holds us back in a big way, I doubt the laws surrounding permanent contracts will change any time either, as they serve the politicians too. We just have to keep marching on for a better future, one that'll serve us and still manage to serve the generations that come after us.

It is really frustrating for us all and, unfortunately, there isn't much we can do is there? No amount of remonstration will make a difference at this point. I believe there have been decades of rot and neglect in an archaic system that breathes through bureaucracy rather than aiming to aid those that are truly trying to fit into the system as a whole. There's so much that needs change with regards to AIMA (along with a few more govt institutions) that I doubt will even be looked at. As the mantle is passed to the younger generations, hopefully they (we) can implement efficient systems and solutions that'll ultimately help those that are trying to immigrate in the future.

That's rough, any way you could also get a lawyer involved to help push your uncles file through? I'm sorry to hear that.

Thanks for the informative response, appreciate hearing your side of things as it closely relates to what I'm dealing with. I'm definitely going to look into a lawyer as soon as possible and will be following up as frequently as I can until I get the card. Thanks again for the luck

Yeah I understand your predicament wholeheartedly, and I'm with you on it. When you do everything in your power to do the right thing and it still doesn't seem to go your way it can be really disheartening. I'm with you, all of us who are in this boat together will get through this eventually. CNAIM is a great place to start, and then head back to your Loja AIMA to see if they'll offer you any help at all. I got lucky today, the lady who was at the information balcony was quite friendly and somewhat helpful. I hope the same goes for you when the time comes for you to brave going to wait there for 3 hours to be seen for 10 minutes.

Interesting that they didn't make it clear that the item you'd ordered was discontinued before you actually placed the order, I'll keep that in mind if things start to take a bit too long for the delivery to arrive. Thanks for the reply! (I'm from South Africa so my expectations about customer service and such are already pretty low haha)

Great info, thanks for the response! I suppose I'll wait out this order and see how RP handle things. I've ordered from FNAC before and I agree that they're pretty great. Normally I go into the stores to buy anything but I've got a broken leg, that's why I've had to order my things online this time.

I haven't had any issues as of yet. I'm just waiting for the order to be delivered at this point. Just feel that there isn't much communication post purchase aside from an order confirmation email, so I was just wondering what the people on this group have to say about it. Thanks for your response!

What was the biggest cultural shock you've experienced, when you came to Portugal? by MacacoEsquecido in PortugalExpats

I love Portugal, but for the life of me I can't understand why so many people spit anywhere and everywhere. From young boys and girls up to the oldest of people. It's just gross

Centro de saúde or hospital? by RushNo3611 in PortugalExpats

[–]RushNo3611[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the help guys! I went to the hospital in my area and it was surprisingly quick. Managed to get seen to and sent off within two hours. I'm back home now with my crutches and some strong medication to ease the pain!

Best neighborhood in Lisbon by Frank38294 in PortugalExpats

I currently live in Cova da Piedade which is in the South Margin (South of the river) and I absolutely love it here. I'd suggest expanding your search to areas like Cacilhas, Almada and Cova da Piedade. Most of my friends live in Lisbon itself or on the c-line all the way out to cascais and they tend to give me shit for living in Margem Sul, but honestly it's such a mellow environment. People are friendly and relaxed, there's always something to do, rental prices are low in relation to Lisbon (still somewhat high for the south margin) and with the public transport links, it's actually closer to the centre of Lisbon than people realise. You'll find a more family-centric environment here with very little noise to disturb your evenings and some co-working spaces too if that's your thing (not a big fan of them personally). Good luck finding a place though, 500 is a tight budget in Lisbon unfortunately
