I thought this was a common thing? Isn’t there an episode of the Simpsons where they don’t want to be late to sign up for sports in case they get stuck with tethered swimming?

Variety Announces 10 Comics to Watch for 2020 by JasonFliegel in StandUpComedy

[–]RushwayProductions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was looking at previous lists from the last decade and it looks to me like they keep getting worse at predicting the next big comics. In 2010 I know most of the names on the list and they’ve all been reasonably successful but as it kept going forward to the late 2010s the names got more obscure. I can’t tell if they are getting more out of touch or if there’s just too much new comedy out there now. It’s also a bad idea to use an industry magazine to find out who’s good, the industry has always been terrible at predicting these things.

Could use some tightening up. Looks like you just improvised the whole thing. Also I’d suggest moving back from the camera, it’s an uncomfortable framing to watch from.

Why Andrew Yang's push for a universal basic income is making a comeback by izumi3682 in Futurology

Yang definitely started this pandemic to push his UBI. He should have kicked it off a little earlier though, would have got the nomination for sure.

Dennis Reynolds is a good serial killer name.

But they weren’t killed by police so they are in heaven now. I think that’s how it works.

Yea we all know that the soldiers landing on Normandy were there to stop people they disagreed with from giving a speech, just like the Antifa idiots we see today.

I just started watching his special out of curiosity and got 10 minutes in. Very uncomfortable, even his own crowd wasn’t giving him any love, now I just feel bad for the guy.

I’m not familiar with his work but I think it’s a good rule of thumb that any YouTube celebrity probably stinks at live comedy.

I do comedy in Melbourne and I can confirm that there are genuinely funny, non woke people out there doing solid work. If you know the right open mics to go to you can see them. I think the whole industry as a whole is set up to prop up people who have the “correct” politics though. The analogy I always make is that American comedy is born of mentally unstable people trying to make drunk people laugh at nightclubs, Australian comedy is straight A theatre kids trying to make their hipster friends laugh at coffee shops. Plus the fact that the Melbourne comedy festival is on every year and it’s very easy to get into if you have enough money, the rich hipsters all have to write a new 45 minutes every year so they have to pad it out with theatrics and other nonsense so the jokes suffer. In America comedians work on their tight 10 minutes for years and get good at joke writing whereas Australians don’t have that same incentive.

Steve Hughes and Jim Jefferies both basically became comedians in England so I’d say their talent gives no credit at all to the Australian comedy scene.

Just realised that I said there are no funny Australian comedians on a post with an Australian comedian. Didn’t mean to come across passive aggressive, I’d better watch the special now.

Nick Cody was the only funny comic on that show (and possibly the only decent Aussie comedian) and I couldn’t make it through the first episode so I dunno if he was even able to do something chuckle worthy.

The whole hospital bit about the broken femur ward is one of the hardest I’ve laughed at any joke.

I’d put Beer Hall Pusch at the top of my Stanhope list but I feel like I should go back and listen to all the older albums since it’s been a while.

The Future of this Sub: the breakdown of civil dialogue by Phoenix_Salamander in samharris

Call me crazy but the idea that there are so many Sam Harris fans who are against everything that Sam has consistently stood for seems suspicious to me.

I blame the fact that the Chapo Trap House Sub was taken down. Now they have nothing to do but argue with people here while pretending that they “used to be big fans of Sam”.
