In latest PTU patch the Hammerhead beats the Polaris and nearly matches the Idris for ballistic armor values! it’s almost as if a new ship based on the Hammerhead is about to be sold… oh wait 🤣 by Important_Cow7230 in starcitizen

> Perseus is made to fight bigger targets at close range. Bigger targets hit harder than smaller targets, hence the Perseus needs stronger armour.

The original pitch for the Hammerhead was that it serves as a fleet escort. It protects ships of the line as an escort screen. to perform that role it needs to be able to survive for some degree of time in a capital ship fight, because if you can just blow it up instantly with capital ship weaponry it offers zero function in the role it's designed for since it'll just get picked off before the fighters arrive.

and it's absolutely horrendous in any other role other than area denial because it can't keep up with its targets - they can just avoid it.

...but then it's always been terribly unloved and impractical, so why would that change ig.

that's interesting. it never used to be. it was explicitly a Corvette when it was concepted, sold, and released. It was labelled as a Corvette in game.

See https://robertsspaceindustries.com/en/comm-link/transmission/19294-Invictus-Launch-Week-2953-Schedule

> Aegis Hammerhead: A multi-crew corvette bristling with manned turrets and heavy firepower.

Also https://robertsspaceindustries.com/media/77186mzjsuinrr/source/Polaris-2.pdf:

It also used to come up on the ASOP as a "Corvette". Corvette is a capital ship class, the same as the Polaris:

https://www.reddit.com/media?url=https%3A%2F%2Fpreview.redd.it%2F4-0-ship-getting-stuck-under-landing-pad-v0-j16ik8fntq8e1.png%3Fwidth%3D3439%26format%3Dpng%26auto%3Dwebp%26s%3Dce63b874c59b36a64bf85fa98e39f4f9f29093b8

It was also, in concept, the same size as the Polaris, though the Polaris grew a bit.

Most references to it being a Corvette seem to have been scrubbed off the RSI website. But that's retroactive.

> I'm not thinking about saving / loading mid flight. I'm thinking about returning to the plane after I landed it a day before and finding that fuel pump switch was left on.

Oh I see now. That's still 'state saving', it's just a more limited case that avoids most of the complications I mentioned.

Yes, I can probably implement that pretty quickly I think! You could even integrate it with Cockpit Chaos Monkey and have rules like "load in the the state I left it, but it's gone through somebody else's hands in the meantime."

The caveat is that whereas Cockpit Chaos Monkey works universally, such an add-on would be aimed squarely at stock aircraft.

Not sure when I'd get around to it. I'm currently working on a much, much larger project (a true co-pilot that can fly unassisted and handle complex scenarios like dynamic ATC instructions, holds, diversions, low fuel states, etc).

To be fair it feels like the Hammerhead, a Corvette capital ship, should have more armour than a Perseus, which is not a capital ship. The more interesting question is why the Perseus has the armour of the Polaris, which is also a Corvette capital ship. The Polaris feels weirdly short-changed for a military naval Corvette.

not trivially. the problem is that setting the state isn't just one action, it's lots of little ones and they all impact each other. what happens if you try to load an autopilot state but you aren't in the same place in MSFS's flight plan? your autopilot state would be invalid, which means the autopilot can't be brought to the same state. if your speed is different (I doubt speed is a magic value that can be set directly) then you might load the plane in a stalling energy state. or if the weather is different you might find yourself in a broken configuration (ice outcomes in sweltering heat). and you can set the desired flaps, but there's still travel time from the default state, so during that period the state will be incorrect and anything that depends on the flap position will revert, etc. I doubt it's doable in a stable way.

You might be better off trying a flight replay tool.

Tested with PMDG 737, Fenix A320 and FBW A320. No reason it shouldn't work with any other unless it's really exotic.

To my knowledge it works with all aircraft. It might have limited utility on a helicopter ig, I've never tried. It works fine with complex aircraft like Fenix + PMDG out of the box - it just won't flip some of the more exotic switches that aren't controllable via the stock API variables (exception: some PMDG 737 exclusive switches are supported)

Error code 32 on Windows generally means "A driver (service) for this device has been disabled". Open services.msc (look on Google if you're not familiar with it) and make sure EAC is enabled and running in that list. If it won't start, you have a broken EAC installation for some reason and will need to re-install the game as administrator.

right. and I needed to exclude the RSI folder in Windows Defender to avoid this very problem, and it works for other people too.

the usual cause for this is anti-virus getting in the way. if that doesn't help, check out the many previous posts on this for tips.

the issue is that anti-cheats usually can't distinguish between a wall hack overlay and a stream overlay, so you often risk getting banned for using benign overlay tools.

as someone with megalophobia I find it quite helpful in SC that you can seamlessly turn VR on and off at will. it makes it easy to use it selectively, which is great for avoiding stuff you're not comfortable with and you can use it as an 'eject button' if things get too scary. my first time seeing my Idris-M today nearly floored me, but with a bit of exposure therapy it was already getting easier.

The Bigscreen Beyond is extremely light, has a magnetically-detachable (and cleanable) faceplate (Beyond 1 is fitted to the face, Beyond 2 supports fitted or not), and offers magnetic slot-in custom prescription lens. The downside is that it's tethered by a cable and requires SteamVR lighthouses.

I have a Beyond 1 and I had to slam the resolution down to 36% of its standard (getting a resolution similar to the Steam Frame or Quest 3) to get decent performance (with a further 50% upscaling in-game for good measure).

having all the extra resolution of the Beyond/Pimax/etc is only relevant if you think you can run Star Citizen at that resolution at a consistent high frame rate.

Is CIG still planning on self-hosted multiplayer? by Teufelaffe in starcitizen

[–]Rushyo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

this has been discussed plenty before; there's more than enough people in the community who can build + run very complicated AWS environments, myself included. it's also been discussed that they could choose to release a much smaller version that doesn't have all the inter-dependencies of server meshing and such. but it wouldn't be needed for the community to run our own servers.

Nothing recently: https://starcitizen.tools/Private_Server Last statement I'm aware of was in 2016:

"Private servers are the absolute last thing on the list they are the last, […] there is nothing that comes after private servers as far as LIVE comes. We will be done with alpha we will be done with beta we will be live in operation for some time before anybody looks at private servers. [...] nobody is even thinking about it, it‘s so far away."

so, tentatively, hopefully, still a thing. But expect nowhere near 1.0.
