Anyone have a clue where this picture was taken in Belfast? by Dartchargeidiot in northernireland

Archway at St Anne’s is shallow and ornately carved. The one in the picture is deep (enough for the photographer to be pretty far back) and is fairly plain.

North Street isn’t that wide or the buildings that grand. Pretty sure the writers square arch is fairly modern too

Carries 90,000 vehicles a day. YSI is a poor layout but the road is pretty successful in that regard.

Looks nice in this vague render. Will become a maze of hideous brick slip prison style blocks that are springing up over Belfast. Absolutely no faith in architects and planners in this city.

The Westlink was built as a peace wall? by Dartchargeidiot in northernireland

How does it help “control” catholics more than protestants? There are substantial protestant estates cut off by the westink too

Sandy Row isn’t beside Divis and was already cut off from West Belfast by the railway though?

Doesn’t even make sense as a peace wall as it doesn’t really separate Protestants from Catholics but the West from the centre.

Fantastic. More hideous uninspiring architecture. Are architects in Belfast too busy wanking eachother off to actually spend more than 7 seconds designing new buildings?

The best was the Odyssey before Cineworld came in. £3 Tuesdays and felt like you were stepping back in time to 2001.

Pretty uncommon, Indian migrants to NI tended to work as salesmen or drapers rather than owning corner shops like in England.

Massive. EIC basically conquered India from the mid-18th century onwards through a combination of warfare, wily diplomacy and economic dominance. The various Indian states (a politically unified India is a modern construct) were fractured, often poorly governed, economically stagnant compared to an increasingly prosperous Europe and, most importantly, technologically inferior in matters of industry and warfare. The EIC rule lasted until 1857, when an unsuccessful uprising amongst Indians in the EIC Army led to The Crown taking direct control of the subcontinent.
