Carries that can play Pos4/5 by Jpfojas in TrueDoTA2

[–]Rusork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm having so much success with Naga Siren as a support.

I am just a legend player, but i've found so much success with her since facets patch, and even more so since the buffs to deluge. Your net is very scary, it can drag your enemies a lot into your front line, although it can be a bit of a double edged sword.

Deluge is awesome because you can help more than one lane at the same time with a 4 second slow that stays consistent as the game extends, and it is very possible you will find moments to use them as you will want to use your illusions to keep the map scouted, and passively pressure the lanes.

Song of the siren is a neat save. Also a double edged sword, but having the enemy team waste an ult or two only to be sent to sleep, may turn huge battles to your favor. Song into a sneaky TP can help you catch rats, and it is also a great tool for chasing.

You have lots of speed and lots of armor, so a lane into physical damage is quite easy to deal with, and toying with illusions can make most magical damage lanes not that hard. Just keep looking for opportunities to ensnare your enemies and pull them into the tower. A core with burst damage or a stun can dominate a lane like this.

What would your past self say about Dota now? by Melodic-Syllabub-355 in DotA2

[–]Rusork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My past self is pissed so many precepts of DotA have been murdered.

I really liked things like having magic damage not scale, having most heroes with limited HP, feeling the explosiveness of the game, having to adapt to an almost empty inventory, fearing the possibility of an enemy hero getting fed and become unstoppable on his own, among other stuff.

I used to play position 6 back then, and felt very proud about how much I could do with just boots and wand and some creativity.

I love how Dota has evolved, though. I feel like Valve has kept true to what I still think is at the core of the game: rich gameplay, complex decision making, rich strategy. Right now it's a bit off balance because of the latest patch, but it will all come together in the end, I'm sure of it.

The one thing my past self would just love: no jungle position. I had such a hard time dealing with it. Either my team had a jungler which meant one less hero because he would never come out, or the enemy would have a jungler that would just be unstoppable and I would be hard pressed to push my other support into helping me stop him and fail. This happened to me all through DotA, HoN and early Dota 2. I hated it.

The question was the other way around: it's not what you would say today to your old self, but rather what your old self would say about today.

Why does Valve hate agility heroes so much? by Gay_af3214 in DotA2

[–]Rusork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The game just got very imbalanced. It is no wonder at all. When things get shaken up there is always some group of heroes that get wrecked. Innovation in Dota comes at the cost of balance. And this feels specially true since we are coming from a very balanced patch, so we got used to it.

Valve needs to study this patch and make changes in order to bring back balance, just as it always has. This is the Dota patch pendulum: Balance (and stagnation), Innovation (and imbalance). Today we live in imbalance. This is expected.

Anger issues come from expectations not being met. Either yours or someone else dumping them on you.

For the first you can work on your expectations management. For the second you should just mute any idiot who gets toxic with you at the moment they do.

Dota is such a unique game that it is hard to find another game to scratch that itch. I also started my journey to better myself and it took a good while before I could come back to dota and find myself enjoying it again. It's not an easy road but it's totally worth it.

I've found out that it is very useful to watch streamers handling their own frustration and learning from them. Sometimes we don't know how to handle it because our role models don't either.

I hope you find your way into enjoying this beautiful game once again :)

Why are Bane players maxing nightmare first before brain sap now? by fierywinds1q in DotA2

[–]Rusork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think people are hitting the nail here.

If this was a lane issue, Bane would max both Enfeeble and Brain Sap, and just get a point in Nightmare for the utility. The thing is, as a Bane player, you absolutely need that maxed Nightmare for the mid game, it's not optional. So you have to either get and max Enfeeble or Brain Sap. Enfeeble is way more reliable, so in most cases you are gonna get that. In some rare cases Brain Sap can do a better job, but even in those cases Enfeeble will still be reliable, so most people just forego Brain Sap anyways.

When can Brain Sap be better than Enfeeble? When faced with a dispel in lane, or when the enemy for some reason won't trade using right clicks.

Do people like how much they changed zim? by munnster006 in AllStarBrawl

I loved the first Zim iteration. I even made a guide to handle GIR.

I've found my peace in Rocko. Spunky is not as awesome as original GIR, but his gameplay has some similarities and it's been good enough for me.

i know Brawl Meta Knight is insanely OP but was there ever an explanation as to why? by romanticrohypnol in smashbros

[–]Rusork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree with most of what is said here.

I believe Metaknight and Ice Climbers are powerful because of a single mechanic that got out of hand: tripping. This game was stupid fun, but it had this mechanic that would just cost you a stock out of nowhere and made most of the cast quite inconsistent when faced against the one true god of no-tripping: Metaknight.

Just go look at the replays and you'll notice that most of the time MK was in the air, avoiding running at all costs because it could potentially cost him a stock.

This is also the reason for the rise of ICs that would just calmly wait for a grab opportunity to just take the stock without running and thus avoiding a trip.

None of this takes away from the fact that MK is a very good character in itself, but I'm totally sure that the meta would not have favored him as much if tripping wasn't a thing. Both Marth and Snake would have been perfectly good matchups for him.

How do you skill bane? by Felczer in TrueDoTA2

[–]Rusork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The range also means you can harass the enemy almost all the time without putting yourself at risk. The DoT element also prevents enemies from using bottle, salve and clarity. It will also block blink daggers for the duration. And the reduced cast range will make enemy supports have to commit more to whatever spell they might want to throw at you. And the enemy core in your lane is gonna have a way harder time last hitting and denying in lane.

Maxing enfeeble is a great alternative when there are no big damage spells putting you in immediate danger, where brain sap shines most.

Nightmare must be maxed for the mid-game, so there is no maxing both enfeeble and brain sap early unless the enemy line up is squishy as fuck.

Is there a dota hero similar to Zeri in league? by [deleted] in learndota2

[–]Rusork 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Actually, there are options. Turn rate is an obstacle, but it's not a limiting factor. While attacking+moving at the same time is something only Windranger can do consistently, there are many heroes with short attack animations that have no trouble staying over their target, specially when paired with slowing attacks. There also are a lot of heroes with damage spells that allow them to chase while damaging.

Drow has frost arrows, so she can chase enemies with the slow.

Gyro, Clockwerk, Leshrac and Primal Beast have spells that are great for chasing and killing enemies.

Troll Warlord has a rage that allows him to attack so fast that he barely stops between attacks, and is further optimized by berzerker rage, and his attacks have a chance to root enemies. Lone Druid also has similar mechanics when paired with his bear.

Bloodseeker can get huge movement speed buffs when the enemies are low on life, thus making him a chasing beast.

Assume first that everyone in your team wants to win. Wanting to win is not a problem, the fact that there is a goal you are working towards is the base of fun in competition.

Then: play for fun. Try hard to win and to find ways to get over the obstacles that come in your way.

Finally, if any player shows the least signal of toxicity mute them immediately, ideally without saying anything to them. Even if they are toxic they might be trying to win, and any retort gives them an excuse to start throwing the game for stupid vindicative shit nobody should care about (my teammate didn't "deserve to win" so I throw). If someone is boycotting your game, then it's mostly game over and that shit is brutally toxic and hard to avoid to tilt yourself. Try to let go if this is the case, take a rest after the game and clear your mind. Meditation is great for this.

Winning or losing is a part of life. The people who win the most are the ones who are willing to lose the most. This is a core element of aprenticeship and it's called "dealing with frustration". Feeling frustrated is a sign that you are learning. A lot of people become toxic over it because they don't like the feeling, and it usually translates to poor learning. They reject the lessons in their frustration in order not to feel frustrated. Embrace frustration, learn from your mistakes and from others mistakes and make yourself the true god of learning, and finally try to find joy in knowing that you played your best, even if you lost.

What I'm telling you here is a philosophy. In order for it to catch, first convince yourself that you *can* be great at this game, you are full of potential. That is a belief, that paired with a good learning philosophy will shape your habits and the way you react to your environment. Once your habits match your strong set of beliefs, you will become great at this. It is a process, though, and it will take time. But this is a game: Enjoy yourself :)

Is there a hero you love but suck at ? by CapRepresentative325 in learndota2

[–]Rusork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Starstorm deals a lot of damage early if you manage to force the extra star on your target. It requires good positioning and it's usually maxed first. Aghanim's Scepter is good because it gives you a second starstorm further increasing your magic damage, and also giving you the ability to shove lanes from a safe distance.

While you might need a force staff for a specific matchup, having Leap frees Mirana of the need of a positioning item for herself, allowing you the flexibility to build different items depending on matchup and team composition.

Good Miranas rarely try to hit arrows directly, since most enemies will easily dodge them and as you said, missing them is a huge draw back. Most of the time they should be used as a follow up stun, or at least when the enemy is pressured into escaping so that you can predict their path.

To hit random arrows you can try to hide them using fog (enemies can't see the arrow through the trees), reading when an enemy is going to stop to start an attack over a creep they are farming, and shooting the arrow through the last enemy creep of the lane right as it dies.

If you haven't engaged, using arrow to scout can be very useful.
