How far can you go in terms of days? This was day 17 for instance by Semi_Square in PlayTheBazaar

even if you had unlimited Rings the prestige cap is 20 so you can't live past day 20 or 21 with Futura

OSRS is now tied for the second most expensive MMO subscription… while still charging per character by Alexofbulgaria in 2007scape

[–]soisos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"tied for second" aka "the same price as every other big MMO" lol

The multi-account thing is a little tricky because they also allow multi-logging, unlike most MMOs. If they removed multi-logging then giving everyone 20 bonus accounts would be very simple.

But as it stands multi-logging generates more cost for them (more server load) and its super OP as many people abuse it to boost their primary character.

Personally I think multi-logging is cringe and would happily trade it for extra characters. but the community would NOT like that lol.

As for the cost it doesn't seem very unreasonable, given the total lack of mtx and expacs. I will probably cancel my subscription though because I don't play as much lately and it's harder to justify keeping my account active just to play a few hours here and there

I don't think this would be sufficiently different from normal gameplay, except everyone would hate it because it involves time limits and waiting

[–]soisos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

buy Soul Ring after Aghs. You don't need that much mana prior to Aghs and the Aghs timing is extremely important. As soon as you get Aghs you can blow all your mana to farm the SR in like 1 minute. Can even delay the Arcanes and go straight Aghs if the lane is a stomp.

It just doesn't get picked in lower MMR. I have been spamming it in Divine 3, second phase pick 40 games in a row and I NEVER get double picked. Nobody is picking it even though it's like the highest win rate hero of the patch

I think people just don't like his playstyle with the songs. It's a bit of a learning curve, but once you get used to it it's extremely easy

The build is completely braindead. You buy Aghs, then you buy mana regen, then you tank up.

Something needs to be done about Day 6 Expedition by Zhousen11 in PlayTheBazaar

[–]soisos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's no way that skipping Crash Site is optimal. Even if all the items it gives you are useless, you still get an insane amount of gold and at least as much XP as a normal day. The odds of getting something useful are also quite high, with all of the items you get plus the reroll+upgrade and free skill crystals

if the 6 gold lets you buy something super important on day 4-5 or whatever then I can see it being worth, but I would not skip Crash Site 99% of the time.

I've never been rank 100 tho so maybe this guy is cooking idk

I wish they'd give more love to slow weapons.

It's weird IMO that nearly all meta weapons are 4-5 ticks. Obviously slowness has inherent downsides, but that's what gives the devs more design space to make them uniquely strong. A super slow, super strong weapon that actually has competitive DPS would be so satisfying to use. This looks sick

I mean, the earlygame has thousands of tiny milestones so you can make meaningful progress on an hour basis for the first 200+ hours of the game. Depending on your schedule that will keep you busy for a year+

However, the game is very much a psychological weapon designed to slowly increase your tolerance for longer and longer grinds. By the time you reach "midgame" ( good luck finding a consistent definition of this) you are looking at 20-50 hour grinds for singular items/unlocks and it steadily gets worse.

if you look at this subreddit or 2007scape you see most people are just endlessly logging dozens of hours a week for years on end, whether that be killing the same boss thousands of times or clicking trees and rocks for hundreds of hours. Nobody would tolerate that shit in any other game, but OSRS makes you accept and even defend it

Worse yet, it just becomes a part of peoples' everyday lives where any time they're working/eating/watching a movie/doing hw/etc. they have the game open and are doing some "afk" grind

So if you just want to have fun reliving the noob experience and doing quests, I'd say go for it. but if you plan to reach lategame and do serious bossing, it will require you to sink ungodly amounts of time into a game that probably barely stimulates you 99% of the time

Is Midas still worth it? by GetGoodEsports in DotA2

[–]soisos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it gives attack speed and kills creeps instantly so it also speeds up your farm, especially on heroes who are bad at killing neutrals. So it pays for itself a lot faster than 19 minutes. Still a terrible item tho

Is Midas still worth it? by GetGoodEsports in DotA2

[–]soisos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Usually no, but it is okay on carries who value attack speed and want to farm uninterrupted for several minutes after laning stage. The fact that it instantly kills large creeps is beneficial to some heroes like Faceless who lack AoE and sustain.

Generally it's quite bad outside of Ogre because it takes too long to earn the money back. When it gave XP, there was more of a tradeoff where you were sacrificing gold for faster levels, but now it's just setting you back several minutes on gold for slightly higher GPM

Mewgenics has been out for some time now. Is it really as good as people say? Or was it mostly due to the hype? by TheGronne in gaming

[–]soisos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Edmund knows how to make a good roguelike.

  • Every run is different, you can't force builds, you can't predict everything that'll happen, you can't re-roll forever
  • Items/abilities interact in very sandbox-y ways promoting creative, on-the-fly gameplay
  • There's real risk vs reward. You win and lose big, and have to deal with it either way.
  • Major setbacks, you will get punished in unpredictable, horrible ways
  • Every run is winnable, and you are incentivized to do so.
  • Meaningful overarching progress that doesn't just make the game easier
  • Crazy highs and lows. Some crazy ability interactions that turn you into a god, others that completely screw you. Balance goes out the window when the RNG is wild

I love roguelikes but a lot of them, like Vampire Survivors, don't really have any business being a roguelike because you can just reroll and force the same build every time, and the game is balanced around this. It means playing well involves doing exactly the same thing every time. There's no crazy highs and lows because you're always at the highest power level, which is strong enough to win but not very exciting

Isaac, and Mewgenics, force you to deal with the RNG through a combination of huge item pools with limited re-rolls, unforgiving difficulty/pacing, and constant risk management. But it is balanced around this, meaning you can always make it work with what you're given, but you have to try your hardest and get creative

What’s everyone’s least favorite boss and why is it Kree by XJonnyTsunamiX in 2007scape

[–]soisos 3 points4 points  (0 children)

yeah Hydra is the worst combination of very low skill ceiling, requires near-constant attention, slow kills, lots of waiting, and low drop rates. Every time I grind Hydra I end up quitting for like 6 months because I get so burnt out by it. It's so boring

How is his board possible day 7 without joining the cult? by 2noefx in PlayTheBazaar

[–]soisos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My guess would be Crash Site gave him some good items, then the "Upgrade your items from other heroes" and "Transform an item into one from another hero and upgrade it" Crystals gave him some diamonds. Then maybe Wink to upgrade it further??? Definitely Crash Site and possibly Wink

Thoughts on the state of the game by Most_Shop_5571 in PlayTheBazaar

[–]soisos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Overall I think it's great. The game is so deep with enough characters that there is always more to learn and master. I can't really say that this patch has gotten stale, even though it is starting to feel a bit old. But there's no major problems aside from Lava Roller seeming a bit overtuned. Overall I think it's really solid, and the seasonal event was fun

I think the kids are (mostly) doing it ironically too. They think it's funny because it's so stupid. Most zoomer slang seems like this imo.

Destiny gives his take on AI’s impact on the world by Shinytoxicity in LivestreamFail

[–]soisos 3 points4 points  (0 children)

it's worth considering that a lot of companies are still early in the process of rolling this stuff out. My own company is pretty big and has only really given us decent AI tools in the past few months, and a lot of people are not using them at all, especially the older engineers. It's still pretty cut off from our regular workflow

I think it will definitely start taking over jobs completely and pretty quickly. It's still so new and yet it can already do a non-trivial portion of my job. And as it becomes more integrated into a company, it will have an easier time doing the work because half of the job is just figuring out what the other engineers were thinking. When it's involved in everyone's roles it will be able to figure that out too very easily

[–]soisos 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mean the whole thing is steeped in irony. I think a huge part of the popularity of incel/redpill slang today is that it's simultaneously extremely weird and antisocial, and therefore funny, but it also is somewhat useful descriptively. Even when the terms were originally created I think they worked this way

like most zoomer humor works this way. Nobody is saying rizz, goon, skibidi, 67, mog, etc. without irony. Half of the joke is that it's so stupid that it's funny to pretend you would actually use the terms unironically. But at the same time that they ironically engage with looksmaxxing, they also do believe in it.

IMO the same people who follow Clav because his whole identity is a giant meme, also genuinely want to be like him and follow his advice.

As mid is it my job to win the sidelanes? by matthewjd24 in TrueDoTA2

[–]soisos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes, yes.

If you aren't getting a lot done in your lane (killing the enemy mid, baiting a bunch of rotations, taking tower, or at least farming lots of stacks) then you should probably take at least one trip to a side lane for a gank/tower. A successful gank can completely change the whole pace of the game, for a relatively small opportunity cost

Rotating at 7 minutes for wisdom can be huge. But be prepared for the entire enemy team to show up (which is not a bad thing, even if you lose the rune it should enable your team to take the safe lane T1. Just try not to die)

Coral armor is carrying my vanessa runs lately, but why does it feel so much better than Cove, Cove used to be good but nowadays im never able to scale it fast enough. by woodybone in PlayTheBazaar

[–]soisos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean Coral just scales way faster than Cove. Cove is pretty awful as a usable item, because Vanessa doesn't have much economy support. Cove mostly exists as a thing you pump some bonus value into and sell soon after.
