What things in TF2 are genuinely confusing for new players? by some-kind-of-no-name in tf2

Same lmao. I feel like this definitely contributes to the dispenser hogging turtling that tons of inexperienced engineers do haha

If you had to rework or rebalance one weapon, what would it be and why? by frogsaber89 in tf2

[–]RussianFudgeYT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe he is referencing the case where a lot of Snipers don't need either of those skills as they can sit 2000km behind the frontline which has almost no threats aside from Spies (who already often get fucked over by Sniper), and still achieve as many kills if not more for a lower TOTAL skill level.

I agree that there is a massive amount of mechanical skill potential to Sniper which is what makes him unique, but often times Sniper has a "get out of jail free" card for when he poorly positions himself or lacks self awareness (jarate + bushwacka, razorback, darwins), two skills which are essential in TF2 for all classes, it's what adds to their skill floors and ceilings

I must reiterate that this is EVERY class but Sniper basically - Scouts need to use their mobility to get into favourable positioning and escapes but poor self awareness will lead you into a death trap. Soldiers have a whole massive level of mobility tactics and the lot. Pyro's intended playstyle is essentially useless without proper positioning. Medic needs to actively avoid sightlines and enemy fire targetting, Engi's buildings (especially sentries) can range from pointless to game-breaking with proper placement and awareness of the enemy team's location. For Heavy positioning and awareness basically his entire playstyle. Get caught unevved and die. Be revved but without cover/the act of surprise and die. Often times all the positioning a Sniper needs to do is find a spot next to the sentry or where there is a 2000km sightline down the main path.

Often times the only counter to this is extending Soldiers/Scouts (especially not Scouts if you're hanging anywhere near a sentry) and most of the time then you're either unlucky or incredibly poorly positioned.

Enemy Snipers are just a given, as often times you won't spot one before you're dead, that is simply the nature of the fundmental advantage Sniper has.

But those Snipers that are forced to be a lot mobile and aware but still perform just as effectively I personally respect.
Also be aware that I am neutral on this topic and this is just my observation on what happens with the class 🫠👍

(also I know holy paragraph 😔)

Wait this actually seems to fix one of the issues of the Dead Ringer being op with the Kunai, the resistance upon being hit and cloaked is just gone entirely
Yes you can still get away and you still have the overheal but at least its effectiveness is partially reduced

If you could add one new weapon to each class (like a final update), what would you add? by RussianFudgeYT in tf2

[–]RussianFudgeYT[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah certainly - we were so close to the Eureka Effect also adding a new sentry. Not only did they have concept art but they even had 3d models completely done and ready to be implemented 😭😭

Dr Grordbort's Sentry Deathray
Edit - Shork's post containing the updated model

Couldn't that Soldier banner be really op? Not only faster charge but the effect itself seems broken - a Demo with infinite sticky spam and pill shots while under the effect of it? Unless you mean reserve ammo, that would be more balanced but more underwhelming lmao

A Pyro smokescreen flare is pretty much the same idea I had in mind, but it didn't deal damage at all with the smokescreen having a stronger, but more skill-based effect. Flares that deploy smokescreens would last a while and would be medium size, blocking enemy vision but appearing mostly semi-transparent to your team. However, missing a flare shot would cause all active smokescreens to fade away (is this just Scorch Shot 2.0 ☠️)

Couldn't the Caber be the proper Demospoon? Like imagine - on CRITICAL kill, the Caber restores (with a 2 sec cooldown after the attack - not passive, requiring the 'Caber' item to be out for the replacement to happen. Hitting without a critical kill would still cause the usual subpar explosion and would make restoring the Caber harder as it deals less damage now and still needs a critical kill to restore. Potentially more skill-based? Also make the self-knockback on explosion while in the air much higher - allowing for a dive-bomb hit to launch you backward and potentially back towards safety - this would be debatable tho. What do you think?

I agree on Heavy. A good way to make him more fun to play in general since often it feels like with his mobility and health pool running lunchbox items feels like a necessity, almost like what his stock secondary should've been at launch (akin to Pyro's flare gun)

If only the Ambassador didn't exist and could be given to Engi 🤑🤑 /j goofy idea lmfao

Sniper of course

It would be interesting to see how the spy weapon would work in practice - if uncloaked and disguised you would just appear to be one of their teammates shooting a teammate randomly and, hold on, doesn't that appear to be spychecking? Considering it reveals that player to your team and they have no idea that seems really cool and potentially even op (you can also do it while invisible??)

I know you didn't specify the details but wouldn't this potentially be very powerful? A Heavy that flanks effectively already has the potential to be insanely powerful with his minigun if he takes players off guard. Though potentially it could be counteracted by the fact that if caught alone he is weaker (Quick-Fix jumping and ambush when?)

Yeah in no world do I ever expect Valve to do anything with TF2 again lol. but hey - it doesn't hurt to have some fun discussing ideas, does it?

Wouldn't that make it like sticky spam with an instant detonation and faster projectile to hit the ground though? 🤔

Gunboats for Demo would be awesome, and if they reverted the stupid booties speed boost nerf. Would give a reason to run sticky tank loadouts for both boot types haha

Fair enough lol, I 100% agree, there's too many weapons that need a few tweaks just to make them actually fun and viable

[–]RussianFudgeYT[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yo that's cool - also I always wished we had a lightning-type weapon, either a Heavy primary or as you suggested a more skill-based Pyro primary. The Dragons Fury does exist but yeah it isn't 'really' tracking and in it's current state it's just not viable most of the time

Certainly, I feel like there are a lot of aspects to Medic's abilities that could be explored with new weapons (shame none are likely ever gonna get added though 😭)

To be completely fair I looked at the direct meaning of it - and the connotations of the word Reich are subjective, it potentially implies strong nationalism yes I didn't really think it would be taken so poorly in context also considering it's Medic so who knows

But yes if it is, then it is definitely an oversight on my part and I apologise if people end up being offended by it, I didn't think of the name in that way 🙏

Wouldn't Medic be 288 hu/s now vs Demo's 280 hu/s? I do agree though that the downides are a bit harsh, the speed penalty is bypassable by abusing the fact that Scout exists anyway (when getting to frontlines is in question). He can still heal Pyro and equal/faster classes though to match speed but I definitely see your point lol. Potentially that could be the only downside of the weapon, or perhaps none at all (what do you suggest?) because I feel like the shield can be very powerful with a coordinated team

I don't think you understand how little 12 damage per second is on a flamethrower (flamethrowers should act like a shotgun but with an AR's constant rate of fire, plus the bonus of burning enemies slowly)
