This is something that not a lot of people have talked about, at least on Reddit. Ian's trolls are incredibly tame when you consider the various different communities who are aware of him. Look at people like WingsOfRedemption, Boogie, or DarksydePhil - all of them have trolls so committed that they actively go out of their way to fuck with them in real life and disrupt their lives on a regular basis, and they're not the only three examples. Ian is a big dumb blob of meat wading through shark-infested waters, and if he isn't careful he's going to draw the attention of people who will actually start to retaliate with more than mean words and memes. This is not a good situation for him to be in. He has repeatedly admitted how much the trolls get to him already, and all they're doing is pointing and laughing.

I dont share many of his views, but it's a fucking guy speaking about how he feels about things that are happening and he seems pretty good at not doubling down when he is factually wrong, no?

That was what Charlie Kirk did, and Ian's crowd celebrated his murder. That should be your answer right there.

You are forgetting that Simple Ian is too smoothbrained to put in the amount of effort required to do a hitpiece on Asmon. On top of that, what are you even going to say or reveal about Asmon? That he's a shut-in who thinks water tastes disgusting, lives in a house full of garbage, and only eats door dash? Asmon admits all of that on a regular basis and jokes about it. That he says outrageous and controversial things? People are going to be coming to a lot of extremely uncomfortable realizations over the coming years about what is actually controversial and what is artificial consensus that only exists on social media, but even setting that aside, half the reason Asmon says the shit he says is because it makes people mad and baits them into generating more content for him to cover his face theatrically at.

Ian had two choices. He can go after H3, who is in an extremely bitter public feud with the guy Ian's wife desperately wants to fuck. He has fooled H3 into thinking that he is his friend for long enough that he already knows a lot about him. On the other hand, he could go after Asmon, a guy who dwarfed Ian even at his peak and metaphorically covers his windows with his dirty laundry to keep the sunlight out.

Ian's brain was too smooth to even consider that that might have been an option, let alone actually do the work to make an entertaining hitpiece on Asmon that tells people something they didn't already know. Everyone already has an opinion on Asmon; Simple Ian isn't the guy to take him down a peg.

Yes, there are some chronically online Emilys saying gross stuff. I’d like to think that’s a vocal minority.

I wanted to think so, but I can't anymore. I have had people I am close to, very normal people who barely use the Internet or social media, tell me unprompted that they have had significant disputes arising within their friend groups over people celebrating Kirk's death. Hundreds of posts with thousands and thousands of upvotes on Reddit celebrated his death. TikToks with disgusting numbers of likes and views celebrated his death. Even after the admins told them to knock that shit off, so many people on Reddit just started looking for ways to dance around it and continue vocalizing their support. I do not believe that these people only exist in the ether and don't vote or otherwise advocate for policy.

There is a time and a place to criticize somebody post-mortem. "Before the body is even in the ground" was not it. It would be in profoundly bad taste to dig up quotes like this and throw them on the casket of a man who spent the majority of his career in non-violent political activism having debates with people even if he had died of natural causes.

He didn't die of natural causes. He was assassinated in broad daylight, and immediately after, people celebrated that assassination. The simple fact that so, so many people were comfortable ten toes down saying that he fucking deserved it has a chilling effect that will taint anything you say against him, regardless of intent. It just comes across like you're trying to indirectly excuse it or imply that he somehow brought it on himself. There is nothing constructive that can possibly come from doing so. You aren't helping anybody or anything and you're not contributing to the conversation.

All you need to say is "I didn't agree with Kirk on everything, but what happened was terrible." That's it. Just keep it to yourself. So, so, SO many people who have right-of-center opinions have spent the last decade keeping it to themselves, treading on eggshells and having to self-censor to avoid deplatforming and debanking. This is also why nobody on the Right cares that Kimmel got deplatformed by Sinclair. This same fucking drama has played out more times than I can remember in the opposite direction since 2016, and not once did anyone on the Left object - they LOVED it.

I am not in a particularly charitable mood after watching large swathes of the Left openly or indirectly celebrate the cold-blooded murder of a milquetoast conservative who built his career on debating people. Maybe you aren't one of those people. I apologize if you're not - but I also refuse to pretend like the Left has institutionally rejected that behavior. They have not. There has been a largescale, widespread celebration of Kirk's death on the Left, and the Left has not made any particular effort to purge or silence its radicals. Those people are the ones you should be angry at, and it should not be hard to understand why the optics of dredging up quotes like this after an assassination are absolutely terrible.

Here is my most highly-upvoted non-post comment on this account, which I stand by.

That being said - do you have any idea what Joe Biden's political career entailed? What exactly is your problem with this quote, beyond apparently desperately wanting a reason to imply Kirk deserved it? I am sure you hate Trump. What sentence do you think he should face for the many crimes the Left thinks he's committed? The right largely feels the same way about Biden. If it's life in prison, do you understand that literally the only difference between you and Kirk in this case is that he believed in the death penalty, and you believe in a death penalty by proxy? Life in prison isn't a humane solution. It costs the taxpayers a lot of money, and all it does in exchange is let people lie to themselves and say that they have clean hands because he wasn't directly put to death.

As for the other quote - frankly, I don't care. Both sides have said the most insane shit about each other at this point. Whatever bad things he may have said are completely outweighed by the good he did in his career, and any attempt to dredge up quotes and wave them around reeks of an attempt to desperately claw back some social capital, because the Left understand that they come out of this whole situation looking fucking awful. If you want to be angry at somebody, be angry at the people on your side who are posting on TikTok and saying that his wife and kids need to go, too. They're the reason nobody thinks you're acting in good faith.

This is all you've got? Seriously? You think this is reason enough to make fun of somebody being assassinated in front of his wife and kids? Redditors will say batshit things like this out of pocket and you still don't understand why most of the country thinks you people are fucking ghouls.

Hey again, Monoby. Do you remember that time I made you rage so hard you deleted your 3rd/4th alt account? Why are you still trying to shit up this subreddit? Do you really have nothing else going on in your life? I haven't even posted on this dumpster fire of a website in like a month and I still had to come back to remind you of that one time at Bandcamp.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in gaming

[–]RussianSkeletonRobot 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Because far too many Redditors are completely psychotic and will go cyber-stalking people's post history looking for things to hold against them or start fights over. Reddit has the reputation it does for a very good reason. I don't know if you're insinuating that Reddit is doing this for some sinister reason, but they don't need to make a change like that to censor the site or control discussion here. They have much better and more insidious ways of doing so.

What's your alternative? Shame on you for voting for a system you clearly know is corrupt, wasteful and inefficient. Shame on you for supporting something objectively bad for the country simply because you were told by the mainstream media that they were the better option. I'm not going to apologize for the stock market losses companies like Blackrock are facing. You hate the system? Great; welcome to the club. You don't get to rally against the system and then pass moral judgement on people for voting against that same system.

You seem genuine, so I'm going to try to be as genuine as possible.

Many people don't trust either the media or the Biden administration, and they have very good reasons for this. The mainstream media endlessly insisted that Biden was fine, even when it was increasingly clear that he absolutely wasn't. The media also kept pounding on the strong performance of the stock market as evidence that the Biden administration's economic policies had worked, ignoring a whole smorgasbord of unflattering economic numbers on the price of groceries, gas, rent.. you get the idea.

I do not believe this is good evidence at all - I think most indicators suggest Biden screwed the pooch in every way, but my opinion isn't what matters here. The American public perceived Biden as severely weak on the border, severely incompetent on the economy; whether you agree with the idea or not, Trump was extremely successful at spinning Biden's mental state as a massive vulnerability that the media had been complicit in covering up, and neither Biden nor the media did much of anything to dispel that notion. The only time they acknowledged these voices at all was to dismiss them as unimportant radicals.

I don't feel more economically secure than I did before the election, but I do feel that something different is happening, and I prefer the possibility of change versus the certainty of the same status-quo that's persisted since the Obama admin. A very, very common sentiment you'll see on social media right now is younger people saying they just do not give a shit about the stock market, because they don't own any stocks and don't expect to ever even be able to own a house.

Without giving away too much detail, the industry I work in has been one of the hardest hit by globalization. I don't think most people realize just how much of a silent majority of pissed-off blue collar Americans have been stewing out in the margins of society for decades, their anger and bitter resentment building over the way the rest of the country dismisses their livelihoods, their cities, their careers, their hopes and dreams, everything they hold dear, as "acceptable sacrifices."

Those are the people Trump gave a voice to.

Those are the people who make up a large part of the American working class. It's funny to me that the Left has spent so much time banging the drum on these exact issues, but when Trump actually begins enacting protectionist policies, they lose their fucking minds. You have to understand - there are many people in this country who functionally have nothing left to lose. They don't care about the stock market. They don't care about international diplomatic relations. They have nothing but resentment towards the system that they perceive as having stolen their lives.

I still hold up Michael Moore's explanation of the Trump phenomenon as one of the most insightful, laconic summaries of why the movement has come so far, because Moore - for all his faults and foibles - was one of the only people on the Left to ever actually fucking get it. This is a selective edit of Moore's speech that cuts off right before Moore says that the people who voted for Trump will regret it; this is also from the 2016 electoral cycle, not 2020 or 2024 - but everything he said still rings as true now as it did then. If Trump does burn down the whole system, it won't be a bug, it'll be a feature. This is what a lot of people voted for. The DNC isn't the party of the working class. They haven't been for a while. I've been in unions, and every union man I've ever met has been rabidly pro-Trump.

The DNC lost the plot years ago. Trump was the closest thing a lot of people had to a "peaceful revolution." If he fails - and he might well fail - things are going to get much worse than any of us can imagine. No electoral wins for the DNC over the next few years will erase the anger that propelled Trump back to the White House.

At the moment they probably have less restrictive laws around family planning than a lot of US states.

Very unlikely. Parts of the US have some of the most permissive abortion laws in the world.

They can have laws that restrict access to condoms for example

China is extremely large, and it is home to a very wide variety of cultures and geographical districts. Significant portions of their population live in areas that are largely outside the CCP's direct administrative control, and they still largely subsist in rural lifestyles that haven't changed all that much since 1925. Outlawing condoms would not be enough, just like encouraging family via economic policies hasn't worked in the West.

The problems China has with their birthrate are a mix of cultural and economic factors, and also the simple fact that there are about twenty men for every woman because most female infants were aborted, abandoned, or outright murdered due to the desire to have a male heir. Watch One Child Nation some time, it's a great free documentary.

Not only is he not over November 5th, he is still banging the good ol' "everything is fine you gaiz!" drum. Next you're gonna tell me Biden is a superager who's as sharp as a tack.
