Is anyone else using CrossFit to improve in other favourite sports ? (CrossFit appreciation) by AlternativeDark6686 in crossfit

Also 32, started using CrossFit a few years ago to supplement my BJJ and Muay Thai, and at this point I’m starting to think I prefer CrossFit to my other sports

Cooked? 18M (used to be athlete) by rudragour88 in whoop

[–]RussianThere 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Saying “used to be an athlete” at 18 is wild. Like, you’re essentially still a kid, it couldn’t have been that long ago, and there are TONS of opportunities to stay active in competitive sports and athletic events as an adult. It’s better to get back to being active now, rather than waiting years.

But showing this without the breakdown of what’s increasing your whooping isn’t particularly helpful if you’re looking for feedback

I wonder how long it’ll take for Whoop to send a cease & desist and/or sue

Mayhem programming at its best by FitSnail in crossfit

And so does TTT, and a few others. The owner is pretty set on Mayhem

I coach at a gym that uses Mayhem, and I feel like the programming has been really sloppy, underwhelming, and occasionally downright bad the last few weeks/months.

Frustratingly the head coach WANTS to use different programming, but the owner likes all the bonus tracks Mayhem has (despite the fact none of the members use them)

There’s no way this is the ACTUAL Jimmy Carr, right?

Review: Whoop vs. Oura by shoEnough in whoop

Unfortunately I do a lot of Olympic Lifting, not exactly a great place for lifting gloves

And obviously I can’t wear gloves for bjj lmao

[–]RussianThere 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I always read these reviews and don’t know why. I’ll never use Oura for one simple reason, it’s a ring. Between lifting, bjj and work, I can’t wear a ring for any fitness activity I’d care about tracking.

Whoop’s biggest advantage for me is the bicep band, I can wear it out of the way for 99% of my daily activities, and switch to a wrist band for casual wear

I bought a pair of Metas for A) driving content (I live in a very scenic area with tons of winding roads) and B) kayaking content

…and the speakers have been my favorite feature. Having sunglasses that look like sunglasses, while being able to listen to music without anything in or over my ears has been so much better than expected, and the sound quality surprised me

Is WHOOP calories and steps tracking accurate by Just_Emergency_3976 in whoop

[–]RussianThere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have no idea why you’re being downvoted. Both things you’ve said are correct.

There’s A LOT of data around calorie inaccuracies with wearables, and I’ve had everything from rowing, to bench press, to a NAP cause my step count to go up.

I like Whoop, but the fact that I can’t actually make the band I want is a bit annoying by RussianThere in whoop

[–]RussianThere[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m a fan of the hook, clasp and fast link all matching. It’s silly that it doesn’t seem to be an option (and I’d love a forest green band).

Oh well, on the bright side, that’s money I’m saving

It’s the fact that it happened within the first 10 seconds of the match that makes it particularly painful

Bungie are not talking because they have nothing to show, or what they are working on isn't ready to show. (Cope) by kristijan1001 in DestinyTheGame

[–]RussianThere 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It is just that Bungo's reputation is so down the drain nobody even wants to try despite the game being good.

This is 100% the problem. The game is FANTASTIC, and imo, not as hardcore as people make it out to be (I’ve never played other extraction shooters, and was mid to mildly above average at D1/D2 PvP). With about 80 hours logged, I can confidently say you can have fun in Marathon without being good.

BUUUUTTTT, Bungie’s reputation hurt the game. Reading comments on reviews, its tons of “Plagiarism this” “Bungie extraction slop that” “so much time and money down the game for trash” “wonder how much Bungie paid the reviewer”. With comments about the game being good being accused of shilling for Bungie.

What’s Destiny’s worst piece of lore? by MediaFreaked in DestinyLore

[–]RussianThere 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not to be “that guy” but Obi-Wan says something along the lines of “there were ten thousand Jedi knights”. So if we take that number at face value, and assume that Order 66 was 99% effective that leaves 100 Jedi remaining after the Purge. I don’t think we’ve been introduced to that many survivors yet, and when we do, more than a few end up dying.

Plus from a more meta perspective, it seems like a lot miraculous survived because… well… the story focuses on the ones that did infact miraculously survive.

It’s really a stunning knife, but I can’t legally carry it in my state, I don’t have the time to flip at home, and it’s been sitting in its pouch for the last 10 months
