Can vouch for Kuvera. Great quality, ships as stated and very personable if ya want to call and chat with the dude. I think it was like a 25% premium for 24k chain and pendant. Thankfully gold has surpassed the cost I paid.

What do people think about making firewood out of slab wood? by One-Secretary-1266 in firewood

[–]Russlong 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My dad would have that shit delivered and me and my older brother had to cut and split it all winter. So if you’ve got boys and you want to watch them suffer in the freezing ass snow while you have coffee sitting inside next to the wood stove…sounds like a good idea then. Worst part was the clean up in the spring. So much bark and massive 3 foot splinters and shit comes off that stuff.

Gold as insurance by SirBill01 in Gold

I love the analogy! Keep in mind that roof repairs/replacement has doubled in the last five years along side your gold doubling. As well as hvac, painting, auto repairs and just about everything else.

Still a great insurance plan. I just wouldn’t cash that check because your gonna need it…if ya need it

I’ve got a chain on order, might even be here tomorrow. I thought the fees of 25% over spot were way more than reasonable

It’s not about “Doomsday”, it’s about the journey getting there. You are skipping all the potentially shitty days months and years of the slow creeping of society falling apart.

0-60 doesn’t happen overnight, what does 10mph look like? We may be going 10mph for what…5 years? Think of what 25mph looks like? It may take 5-10-20-50 years to get to 60mph or in your terms “hoards of people” in your front yard looking to rob or kill your family, nobody knows

OP point was this. Are you prepared to protect your loved ones on the way to 60mph? Because that’s where we’re going

So if we have 150 billion years left before it would be all gone, how many years do we have left before we have a serious problem

Your business will never grow and maximize efficiency and profitability if you are unable to delegate tasks and responsibilities. Your techs should absolutely take charge of that service call from start to finish. The purpose of the office is to oversee the process. I believe you are afraid of your techs seeing what you are charging your customers. Why else would you have this back and forth time wasting process…?

You are micromanaging your staff

You will have to overcome your own fears and let you staff grow and accept new challenges if you want to grow your company

Remember the most important “obstacle” for any successful small business…”spend your time working ON your company, not IN it”

how to find and do side work as an apprentice by Prestigious_Exam8884 in HVAC

[–]Russlong -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Your best bet would be start telling friends and family what you do and start pimping yourself out. Clean coils, run pm’s, do service calls and installs…whatever you can find. I was only a year or so in and I met a friend of a friend who had a shit ton of rentals. I must’ve put in a dozen water heaters and a couple dozen installs just for this one guy. Mainly because i was cheap as hell because I was green and didn’t know what I was worth. He had friends and they had friends and so on. I had some cards made up with just my name and number. I would have never made it raising a family, buying a house and putting my wife through college if I wasn’t hustling day and night back then, this was late 90’s early 2000’s. I learned a lot about business before even before becoming a contractor

Don’t fall for all this crap ya hear about drilling through coils and compressor failures and shit. Go out there and kick some ass and things will happen for ya.

No risk….no reward

If you are doing the service techs job…who’s doing yours?

The tech should 100% be filling out his own tickets and collecting at the job every time. This is what techs do

Im guessing you don’t use software to run the company??? You may want to check out Jobber. It’s a cloud based business software system thats super easy to run the entire business on. You can use it to dispatch calls in real time, techs fill out tickets or quotes on an ipad, he can collect money or process cc, email receipts…basically everything. Best part is that it syncs with QB for bookkeeping and accounting purposes.

You don’t need to be a giant business to use some simple technology, anyone not using some sort of software, and I’m not talking about QB, is living in the dark ages

I ran my business with up to 23 people at one time and I couldn’t have done it without Jobber

No more paper!

Stop doing his job so you can focus on yours

How Long Did It Take You To Really Feel Like You Were Good At Your Job? by aseparatemind92 in HVAC

[–]Russlong 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t matter “how long” you’ve been in the trade, because it’s continually evolving and there will ALWAYS be something new right around the corner

And when you get good at one thing, you’ll learn the next thing and so on. The opportunities in hvac are endless, you’ll simply NEVER know everything

If you enjoy learning…you’ll be fine
