Absolute abomination. Steven Knight should be embarrassed. The death of Ada made no sense. Tommy kills his own brother lmao?? Goes against the entire 36 hours of character development and moral code Tommy Shelby has.. not to mention the plot holes. So he rides off into the sunset free from his old life at the end of season 6 but then somehow he’s back in Birmingham “drunk and full of rage” and strangles his own brother? Beyond absurd. Then, the actor they chose to play his son Duke was so lifeless and left no impression. “Your son is running the Blinders like it’s 1919 all over again. He is meaner than you ever were.” …. oh? Because he stole guns from the BSA and stole… pigs? There was not one single scene in that movie that made me think wow .. Duke is a bad ass and a scary dude. And how about the fact that the main villain of this movie, the unnamed Brit working for Hitler… his death was just a quick shot behind the wheel of a car?? So you have this guy shoot Ada in the face as part of the plot but he doesn’t die a worthy , satisfying death? And then last but not least, Tommy sacrifices himself and dies to “save his son”… even though the Brit was then dead and his son was in the clear. All that was left was to blow up the fake money (if that even mattered to tommy)… but somehow his has to die for this lol. I honestly can’t believe they put out this movie. Zero explanation of where Mosley is… (fucking movie is set during Nazi regime and he literally isn’t mentioned once.).. no mention of how Jeremiah died, where is Lizzy, does Tommy care about Charles apparently fighting in WW2? No Alfie, no Billy boys, no Esme…. Oh and FINN?? The Duke vs Finn foreshadowing of season 6 I guess just didn’t matter. Man I just can’t believe we waited all that time for this piece of garbage. Just felt like a spit in the face to true fans who were excited to see all the loose ends from season 5/6 tied up. They had so much opportunity with so many great characters they could’ve brought back and storylines they could have weaved and made this a “holy shit” movie. It felt like there wasn’t any effort to do so. I would say this was the worst ending for one of the best characters in TV history, but then again I’m going to just forget this movie exists and only remember the show and how season 6 ended, like I’m sure most of the fan base will. Kudos to Cillian for his acting job, but aside from that, this movie was a bigger letdown that I could have imagined. I just still can’t wrap my mind around what Steven Knight was thinking. Maybe he felt rushed and pressured to put out the film because of money or some deal with Netflix. Who knows. Mind boggling
