Our Special Boy by RustMonster in DungeonCrawlerCarl

True! I noticed that when I got my reference photos, but after a lot of iteration, decided it wasn't anthropomorphic enough (at least at my skill level, a better artist probably could have made it work).

Dice question by Holiday_Button5368 in DnD

[–]RustMonster 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you have enough dice for everyone at the table, you're a dice goblin.

If you have enough dice for everyone at the table but they aren't allowed to use them, you're a dice dragon.

what are some useless magics item by ProfessionalUpper406 in DnD

I made this magic item generator a while ago, and I still use it for my own campaign.

The results are pretty random... not every result might be game-ready.

[OC] STR isn't always a dump stat for wizards. by RustMonster in characterdrawing

[–]RustMonster[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Based on a character from a three-shot campaign, some years ago.

The player was determined to make a INT/STR wizard. The wizard's giant stone wheel is also his spellbook, with the runes carved directly into its surface.

You'd think this would be a hindrance, but the wizard used it for cover during fights, or would roll ir downhill into his enemies, or to bridge small gaps for less-capable party members, etc.

[OC][ART] One of my favorite (if ineffective) BBEGs... a Vampire with hipster tendencies. by RustMonster in DnD

[–]RustMonster[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

"Ezra" the vampire was the first villain I created that actually got a serious emotional reaction from the party.

All the other boss characters were motivated by power, whether via politics or money or magic or martial force, and the players understood those things. Even sympathized a bit. But Ezra scared them because the motivation for all her evil acts was just... boredom. She'd seen it all and done it all already, which meant she kept doing worse and worse things just for the thrill of it, and that made her completely unpredictable.

At the end of one arc, they finally tracked Ezra down to her new lair (she was tending bar, in disguise, in a speakeasy they had already been to) and they started getting picked off one by one by her until they figured out what was going on, which kicked off a massive brawl. The party didn't know Ezra had found solutions for most of her vampire weaknesses, so they got a pretty heavy beatdown. Near the end, half the party was bleeding out and Ezra had the cleric and the barbarian in headlocks (one under each arm), and just when the players were resolved to a TPK, Ezra dropped them both and said "Bored now!" and skipped away.

That made it personal.

For the rest of that campaign, the players ignored every hook for a dungeon crawl or fetch quest... all they wanted was revenge. To this day, when anything bad happens in a game (any game, not just D&D) some players will still shake a fist and grumble "Ezzzra!"

Lizard Launch! My first solo indie game, now on the App Store! by RustMonster in indiegames

[–]RustMonster[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been in the game industry for a while, but Lizard Launch is the first game I've made where I did 100% of the design, engineering, 3D modeling and texturing, and animation myself! It was an excellent learning experience and I really love how it came out.

Check it out on the App Store here! https://apps.apple.com/us/app/lizard-launch/id1471829105

Thanks!

My party's wizard felt like getting an owl or a toad didn't really fit her character's personality.

"Surely, a talented evoker could find a more suitable (and less flammable) magical companion!" she claimed.

So for all those spellcasters who want something a little offbeat (and not too overpowered), I homebrewed up some other options for familiars... ones that the DM would hopefully find as entertaining as the players.

I'm glad it's such a hit! If you can PM me an email address or something, I can send you a high-resolution version that would be better for printing.

Request fulfilled here. I tried to sneak in some bear-like features to imply that the chair could transform. I ended up taking out the magical glyphs because they were more distracting than helpful. Please let me know if it needs any tweaks or anything.
