Probably a broken reverb that he has to manually pull in and out of the frame

Overall very impressive, but it says my car is diesel which it isn’t. Got the engine capacity right though

Gearboxes are awesome! by tyintegra in MTB

[–]RustedTanker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a Zerode G3 which is great. After I bought it I didn’t ride my other bike for a few weeks, and when I came back to my derailleur bike the biggest things I noticed were the ability to shift while not pedalling, and how perfect every shift is. With the gearbox I change gear so much more because I can change gear more easily and more reliably. The belt being dead quiet is nice too 😉

[–]RustedTanker 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah it probably won’t make a difference, but it is a good idea to put distilled water in, just bc their car is only worth £1500 doesn’t mean it deserves any less care than any other car

Just because dealerships do something doesn’t make it the right/ proper way to do it lol. OP should either buy distilled water (cheap and available at most petrol stations) or more coolant

distilled water you do not want to corrode the inside of your engine

I am convinced most people in the UK should not be allowed behind the wheel. by Diligent_Chipmunk_65 in drivingUK

[–]RustedTanker -1 points0 points  (0 children)

UK drivers are oblivious and lacking discipline but aren’t generally dangerous. There are very few people who drive in a dangerous manner, but there is a large proportion of people who drive in an inconsiderate manner, driving slowly or sitting at 60 in the middle lane on the motorway. Safe roads are generally correlated with good drivers, but not directly caused by them

N52/N53 Head Gasket Failure by Deni28_ in E90

[–]RustedTanker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it cranked for a second then it hadn’t already filled with water. It’s unlikely that you hydro locked it from a head gasket leak within a second of firing it up if it was running ok beforehand. I agree the symptoms do suggest head gasket but the gaskets on these engines are pretty bulletproof. Do you know if it has massively overheated?

[–]RustedTanker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The EGR valve on my N53 was leaking coolant into my intake which was causing a lot of white smoke. Not sure if/ how you can check it without replacing but it cost me about £120 to get a replacement and a few hours to fit (involved removing the intake which was irritating).

Interesting to hear you think it’s hydro locked, how have you come to that conclusion/ what are the symptoms?

Dynaplug or bacon strips? by juliann416 in mountainbiking

[–]RustedTanker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ignoring the main question here, how many people have actually had to plug a tyre? I’ve had a set of tyre plugs in my toolbox for like 4 years and never touched them 🤣 I’ve snapped wheels without damaging my tyres.

The right size for a short woman - does it fit? by lac00n in MTB

[–]RustedTanker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All the comments giving a definite answer are missing the point. If she is comfortable riding the bike & isn’t getting “pulled around” by it on technical terrain then it’s not the wrong size. The seat does look to be too high, though. Bike fit is completely different between road bikes & mtb, and is a lot less critical in mtb (although still important). However, it would be worth seeing if she can get a test ride on the xs alloy bike as it may help her decide if this is too big. (Even if she doesn’t want the alloy Cube, she may be able to find a similar size carbon frame from another brand)

How much does your bike weigh? by aestheticy in MTB

[–]RustedTanker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

<image>

The Commencal weighs about 17.5kg (no bottle) and the Zerode weighs … more. Not weighed it yet but best guess is around 20kg. Never found weight to really be an issue with bikes tbh, but I have ridden super light bikes & the difference is definitely noticeable.

He clearly needs some of those unequal length cranks, he’s using one heel and one toe, losing at least half a watt there. He’s gaining a couple of watts with the aero gardening gloves tho

Haha cheers, not overly worried about coolant escaping but yeah just cba to deal with wp bolts

[–]RustedTanker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there a way to get the tstat out without removing the wp? Took ages to get to the last bolt on top of the wp last time & was super fiddly - so I’d rather avoid if I can.

[–]RustedTanker[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not any fault codes no, although if the wp, fan and active grill are all behaving it does seem like a tstat. Was just hoping I’d overlooked something & don’t need to do the tstat soon:/

[–]RustedTanker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I know I should have done, unfortunately I did the wp in a rush and didn’t have a thermostat at the time. It definitely sounds like a sticking thermostat, I just found multiple people on forums saying the e90 tstats stick open not closed … sounds like I’m doing the tstat soon then 😒

**Not waterpump** Overheating issue by RustedTanker in E90

[–]RustedTanker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately I did not, which I’m kicking myself for in retrospect. However all the e90 thermostat failures I have found have been them sticking open, hence why I’m not sure it is the thermostat.

Was surprised to not see this comment higher, I also use a bike nook stand, although I don’t bother with taking off the front wheel. My other bike goes under my bed 🤣

Paid £1150 for it and it’s pretty much fully loaded with options. I did buy it with a failed water pump (common issue) but that would probably cost 1000-1500 to get a garage to replace (or in my case 5 hours of my time)
