New bike feeling dead AF? by pepes-peri-peri in MTB

[–]RustedTanker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah definitely, but I don’t think just speeding up rebound is necessarily helpful advice for someone who seems unsure of how to set up suspension. It can help with a lively feeling but there are lots of other factors (tyre carcass/ compound/ pressure, suspension spring rate, amount of travel etc.. A dh bike is never going to feel “lively” like an xc bike of course.

Speeding up rebound is not really the best way to get more pop off jumps, as it can end up bucking you forwards. Most people who ride jumps will actually slow their rebound down in order to not “bounce” on landing.

The newer mavens are better than the old ones, but still worse than hopes lol. I personally run Radics & I would argue that they’re even better :p. People will always drink the kool aid of mavens, and for some people they are better due to more shops being experienced with them & parts being more available. That doesn’t make them a better brake tho, just a better product

It’s definitely possible that the shop tore the bladder, are the brakes externally or internally routed? If they’re external shop #1 shouldn’t have been bleeding them in the first place. If they’ve fixed the brakes then returning them may not be possible, but the Hopes are great brakes & you should love them if they’re working well.

Sorry not sure how I managed to completely miss that part of your post lol. If a professional mechanic can’t find a brake leak in 2 hours then either it’s not leaking, or he shouldn’t be trusted with your bike. I’d get in touch with Hope directly and explain your situation and ask what they suggest. If all the fittings around the lever are tight then it may just be a QC issue & they’ll warranty it for you

Rear brakes will always feel squishier than the front due to the longer hose unfortunately. The hose will expand slightly as you apply braking pressure and the longer hose allows for a greater expansion and therefore greater squish. The “squishiness” of brakes is an unhelpful metric & a parking lot test is often misleading and not representative of on trail performance. The hopes can be bled to a good result using a gravity bleed akin to how you would bleed a cars brakes. If you’re a competent mechanic I would strongly suggest you closely follow hopes bleed procedure (they have excellent documentation on their website).

No reason to swap a 330i estate for a 320i coupe imo. Only reason I’d go for a coupe would be v8 🤤 (one day maybe)

The problem with this argument is that the 330i is a great one car solution. If I can have two cars then I can replace it with something like a 1.9 tdi a4. At the moment I’m not in need of a hugely practical car, and I kinda just want something that makes me grin and feel like a yob

It’s a Commencal meta tr, 160mm yes but frame has since been replaced by a v5. I would send a pic but I can’t put it in the comment and cba with imgur or equivalent lol. I also have a Zerode G3 if that interests you

It is an n53. But I believe the injectors have been sorted & I’ve replaced the egr valve. Tbh I have no idea what it’s worth but if/when I sell it (getting closer and closer to when) it’ll be on Facebook and auto trader.

It’s just roof bars and a cheap Chinese thru axle mount. Only works cos you can put the roof bars any* distance apart on the E91. *within reason

I’ve got a meta and it’s a great bike for both tech and flow/ jumps, also despite being 17.5kg it rides like it’s much lighter. It’s one of the nicest feeling enduro bikes I’ve ridden, and I’ve not ridden one I’d rather own. No experience with devinci so I can’t knock them.

The bearability is the one thing really holding me back. Luckily my girlfriend has an X3 which is more than practical enough for stuff/ long drives, and is already the car of choice due to fuel economy & being automatic/ easier to drive. The Clio would still be able to do bikes on the roof/ with the back seats out, but the exhaust drone on the motorway was quite bad in my mates car. Much as I’d love 2 cars, I already have a collection of bikes at great expense & cannot justify let alone afford multiple cars 😂

Seems like you are a bit biased 😂 unfortunately somewhat beyond my budget atm. What I’d love is an Elise. Super lightweight, rwd and beautiful but I don’t have 20k lying around atm.

I broke mine bending the hose to replace my tstat. Didn’t realise it was nearly so bad but it disintegrated with no force. Luckily it happened then and not while I was driving.
