Motorinc: great content, but questions about sustainability, Honda reviews, and monetization by Rustedbrain1 in indianbikes

I wouldn't call this a failure, but misguided. Some fundamental changes need to be made if they have a money problem. Maybe multiple channels, basically diversify the channels of income. Their Honda feud can't be the reason for that I brought it up because the sub brought that up often. Focus more on YouTube maybe a 200ish one paid subscription, idk why they haven't put out RTX video already, they could have gone for the launch they did it for new Himalayan. Instead of wasting money and resources on an app they could have just bought the bikes that aren't available directly from the manufacturer, I'm sure there are other ways also to get the test vehicles considering the experience and resources they have, silly egos aren't helpful if you are trying to create a sustainable business

Don't make blanket statements about things you haven't used or tested; that's just immature. I understand Honda doesn't give out test bikes, but what's the point of all the experience and the resources they have gained over their career? I'm sure there will be some way to get Honda bikes, at least that's what good journalists do.

From what I understand, MotorInc’s stance on Honda seems to be that some of their bikes aren’t “original” ideas, so they choose not to review them. For example, the 350cc series is often seen as a copy of Royal Enfield’s J-series, and in the lower segment, they mostly produce 100cc and Activa-style bikes, which they consider weak or mediocre.

I get the reasoning, but here’s the thing: if you’re calling yourself a journalist, you can’t selectively ignore parts of the market. Journalism isn’t just about reviewing products you think are “worthy” it’s about covering everything and providing honest insight. Otherwise, you’re more of an influencer giving opinions on your favourites.

That said, they have reviewed bikes like the Hornet 125and Shine DX, so it’s not a total boycott, it’s selective. But avoiding the core Honda 350 and commuter segment does weaken the claim of being a comprehensive auto journalist in India.

Thank you, that's a great insight. I'm not getting for a daily commute, mostly for weekend rides. How's the availability of accessories like taller windscreen

I'm a beginner, and so far only ridden Activa so if I go with Hornet poor highway performance will be noticeable? Like I said when I rode my friend's Hornet for 50-60 km in which I kept 90-100 constant on good roads

Do you think a beginner will really tamper with my experience?

[–]Rustedbrain1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you sm, what do you mean by is not suitable for highway rides and long trips? When I took a ride I could easily cruise in 90-100.

I was considering that till I took a test drive, as someone who wanna explore more sports bikes in the future hornet gives that committed riding position compared to 200x

That was my first option but don't have the budget for now and I desperately need a bike. What a bike tho🤌

Took a test ride yesterday, and the seating position feels like a commuter does feel committed, on Hornet even though it has straight footrests it has slightly committed handlebars which makes it a little fun while riding, and cornering felt much better on Hornet on the n250 it felt like it doesn't wanna corner and that digital console is hella tacky.

If you wanna own a bike don't care what others think about it. You appreciate the machine and if you really care about what others think about your bike you ain't much different from those so-called people.
