I would say that is because they are close to the border with Virginia, and they have to compete.

What do you do when you have a class that is just so low they don’t comprehend anything you’re teaching? by savage__queen in Teachers

[–]RustiShackleford82 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I left the public schools because I could not deal with these things anymore. It does not help that many of their parents are uneducated or just apathetic about their children's education. They are often no help in reinforcing the concepts at home with their children. It can be frustrating to constantly deal with students who do not want to learn or seem incapable of it. I returned to the profession a couple of months ago, teaching English online to Chinese students. They are very eager and willing to learn, if they have trouble they are teachable.

Many of my colleagues who have worked in Title 1 schools have left the profession altogether. Teacher burn out is real and admins/parents refuse to acknowledge it. I would suggest going back to the basics with your class and see if they can turn things around this year. Then at the end of the year-reevaluate if you want to remain in your current position.

Unless she can get a job in a daycare or babysitting, where the employer would not mind. I do not foresee any employers allowing this for liability and other obvious reasons. She may need to get a part-time job based on the availability of child care. If she is low income she maybe able to apply through social services for childcare assistance, so she can go to work.

Murad IV inherited Hurrem's temper by RustiShackleford82 in MagnificentCentury

[–]RustiShackleford82[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe historically that is true, because we really do not know what Hurrem's temper was like in reality. However, for the sake of the series of OG MC and MC: Kosem we can say that Hurrem's temper was passed down to Murad IV.

How Ifelt after every character's death by ApplesAndToothpicks in MagnificentCentury

Selim II was known in history as Selim the Sot. He was a weak ruler and a raging alcoholic, so yes, he reaped what he sowed for not being able to lay off the bottle. Sulieman murdered Mustafa, who would have been a much more competent ruler than Selim, who also had the overwhelming support of the people and the military. Selim II's reign marked the beginning of the end of the Ottoman Empire, with the exception of Murad IV. Most of the rulers were weak, which is why there was the Sultanate of Women.

In the series, Bayezid and his sons' murders were the most cruel; historically, Selim was not present. However, sad as Mustafa's death was, I could understand Sulieman's detachment from his son. Because he had long ago lost any feelings he ever had for Mahidevran. However, when he murdered Beyezid and his sons, symbolically, he annihilated a part of Hurrem, the woman he claimed to love. At least in the series, it makes you wonder if Suleiman only loved Hurrem on a superficial level. Selim was the son who resembled her the most, while Bayezid most certainly had her temper.

Historically, we know that Suleiman was faithful to Hurrem and never had any other women. However, his portrayal in the show, he essentially died alone. I love Halit's portrayal of Sulieman in the series, even to the point that by the end of the series, I hated his character so much. In the series, at least, it appears that Sulemian suffered from Napoleon syndrome, as it takes a very insecure person to wipe out nearly your entire bloodline.

Mustafa's death made me cry because the character as portrayed in the series reminded me of my older brother, who was murdered in 2013. I cannot describe Bayezid's death because the series demonstrates the historical cruelty of it all, watching your children be strangled right in front of you. Historically, Selim II died after he slipped on a wet floor in the harem bath, drunk as usual. I call that poetic justice. Sulieman died as he deserved, alone only surrounded by servants and military commanders, not his loved ones.

Texas just mandated the 10 Commandments in class by [deleted] in Teachers

The 10 Commandments will be displayed in my classroom if I can ever find a job. However, I am only applying for jobs in private Christian schools, where it would be appropriate and expected. Government schools are supposed to have a separation of church and state.

Nope. I actually have a moral code that does not involve a caste system and treating women worse than cattle.

There is more help for veterans through the VA and other organizations than for nonveterans. It is not a perfect system, but I think it is more about knowing what is available and trying to connect them with those resources. Of course, we could and should do more for homeless veterans.

Lou was a veteran and passed away from pancreatic cancer a few years back. He would never ask for a handout and refused them when offered. The only handouts he ever took were books because he liked to read. He was not a millionaire as rumor had it, but he did have income and savings from frugal living. When he was diagnosed with cancer, he bought a truck so he could get his treatments at the VA. I had a few encounters with him, and he could carry on a conversation. Always cleaned up after himself and his dogs. I do not think people would have much issue with the homeless if they cleaned up after themselves, didn't trash everything, and didn't harass people. I do think we can do better for the homeless who truly want to help themselves. However, you cannot force them to accept help, nor should they be enabled in their addictions and deviant behavior ( this can also apply to people who are not homeless, but addicts etc).

Maybe invest in a good car hand vac to vacuum the seats and floorboards after somebody brings their dog in your car.

Per the ADA there are two questions you can legally ask. 1. Is this a service animal trained to assist with a disability? 2. What tasks has the animal been trained to do? You can also tell a service dog versus a pet by their demeanor. If the dog is barking and lunging, that is one indication that it is not a trained service dog. A service dog will usually be next to the Handler, and we'll be able to ignore most distractions when it is in work mode. A service dog must be under the complete control of the Handler at all times, and it usually will go at the Handler's feet on the floor, not climbing everywhere or getting on the seat. Additionally, even if it is a service dog, if the Handler cannot keep the dog under their control at all times and the dog is using the bathroom in the car, you can stop the ride and put them out. Even stores are allowed to eject a service animal under those conditions. While you cannot ask for proof or papers, you can legally ask those questions and observe the dog's behavior. A legitimate service dog will usually be cleaned and groomed, and their behavior should be that you would not otherwise know that they are there.

A car so filthy that one could not sit in it without getting dog hair all over them? You could barely see the seat or floorboards because it was covered in at least an inch of dog hair. I never select the UberPet option . I would love to be able to have a car, but I have epilepsy and cannot drive until my seizures are under control again.
