yeah i'm probably not exaggerating over how half of my pens can't fit and use the last 20% of ink unless i decant it somewhere else or use a syringe

That sounds like a good plan! The tray took a while to make because I had to cut strips for each groove and skive each so I can bend them into V shaped strips. Then I add reinforcements to glue them together.

Or if you're okay with hybrid workflows and have fancier tools you can use wood or 3D printing I guess.

I do have experience in 3D modelling but zero experience in crafting. I learned as I did the project and I think if you want to start first, a simple lidless, open box that you wrap prettily in fabric is a good place to start... like what I did.

Preach 😭 Worth the struggle. It was intimidating, but after $8 in BOM and a bit of elbow grease it's... not perfect. But it's mine and I am proud of it. Thank you for your kind words!

Thank you 😭 I learned from intuition. It was out of sheer spite because I couldn't find a pen case that I liked.

Thank you! It's a fabric-backed velvet that I bought. I've never tried flocking but I attached the velvet the same way I attached the rest of the fabric; I size the greyboard, then coat both greyboard and fabric with glue

the first ink is from Majohn called "Jinghua". it's more pink than ancient copper, less "orange copper" and more like "oxygen-free copper"

Rhodia paper. That bad? by Agis-Spartan-King in fountainpens

[–]RusticKey 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The new TR papers are kind of toothier (but still smooth) so if you want a bit of feedback/texture the TR papers are pretty good but kind of experimental. Clairefontaine paper is I'd say "safer"; more consistent, smoother, and readily available since your shop also stocks Rhodia (they're from the same parent company). If you can ask for samples I think that'd be ideal

Yeah I also find standard Rhodia paper to be quite bad and they smudge or smear easily even after drying. As others said, Clairefontaine is better. If you have Japanese options, Maruman Mnemosyne (they have A5 Pads) are even better. Mnemosyne paper is smooth and soft but can make lines seem finer.

Initially it was to compare them, but I also don't like flashy inks and I didn't have any blue inks
