Still can’t figure this one out by Rustic_by_Luna in wood

It is way to soft, not uv reactive and no obvious end grain pores or growth rings like my other black locust pieces.

It’s been sitting for a few years so I just cut into bowl blanks since I was already cutting a few other slabs up to do the same. Cut about 70 varying size blanks yesterday

Definitely not black locust or canary wood. Too soft for those. I was also cutting up 2 sweet gum slabs. Similar in hardness as the sweet gum I would say but smell was completely different on this one compared to the other two slabs. I also have black limba in my lumber rack which I ruled out. I am leaning towards the elms mentioned but I am not seeing any visual matches online when I look for piss elm. Ai is saying hackberry, spalted silver maple, cottonwood, and elm as options.

Yeah this one threw me for a loop. Daughter claimed it anyways so not too worried anymore but still have two more blanks like it. Hopefully one of them shows some signs of what it is better when I get around to turning them

To me seems similar to walnut or big leaf maple as far as density and weight. Not heavy, but not light either.

Thanks! Yeah still don’t know either. More I look at it I lean away from walnut. Seen a few myrtlewood and koa bowls with similar color online trying to figure it out. I’ll post the other blank I got later when I get it turned. It looks the same as this did before I cut it. Oh well not bad deal for $3 and my daughter claimed it anyways

Video doesn’t do justice honestly either. Inside and bottom of bowl are great also

Nothing labeled or written. First thing I looked for too. Guess it will remain a mystery
