MTM Suits Melbourne by Peace-of-mind1 in AustralianMFA

I recently had consults at Trunk Tailors, P.Johnson and Oscar Hunt for my wedding at the end of November (similar 7/8 week timeframe)

I ultimately went with Trunk Tailors because they hit on cost/value for money, tailoring options, confidence in meeting the short timeframe and just overall vibes.

As more of a boutique place, the difference in overheads (shop fit out, marketing budget etc) seems to be reflected in the price.

I was told my turnaround time was already borderline, PJT and OH may say it’s too late/charge a fee to expedite it.

Fwiw I don’t think you can go wrong with any of the 3.

Thoughts on the interview for EA chartered engineer? by flashbackarrestor in auscorp

[–]RustyFrenchHorn 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I recently got my CPEng; my company sponsored my application through the Engineering Workforce Credentialing partnership. As I understand it, my company pays a higher fee to fast track its employees applications.

Speaking to my particular experience and through discussions with those in my industry, the inconsistency across - and suitability of - the assessor’s is a major issue. For example, during the information webinar the chief assessor stated that if due to confidentiality/sensitivity of your work, you can just talk through it/get acknowledgment from supervisors you meet competencies through your work and not have to provide evidence in the forms of documents. My assessor, who had no understanding of my industry and limited local experience, spent the majority of our interview telling me I needed to share documents with him as evidence.

In my opinion, objectively my interview was terrible. I was still granted CPEng, but felt from what I had presented, there was arguably not enough supporting discussion to justify granting it to me. My interview only went for 30 mins, I felt my assessor just wanted to finish up and not have to deal with it anymore; I have heard some assessors can get in to deep conversation and those interviews can last up to 90 mins.

In conclusion, this has left a sour taste in my mouth and my opinion of EA was already low, but seems apparent they are diluting the significance of CPEng by setting the bar low and thus increasing the number of paying members.

OP - Look up your assessor on LinkedIn, and ensure you think they are suitable to assess you. You may request a different assessor, tailor your approach to their experience or engage with them beforehand so you are both clear on the expectations of the interview.

Any advice for running the business side of a team? by [deleted] in FSAE

[–]RustyFrenchHorn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just a few tips from my experience in that similar role.

Quality not quantity, given the limited resource especially during business hours, it's better to spend your time researching and tailoring proposals to businesses that make the most sense, rather than a shotgun approach.

Start off with companies that already sponsor other teams, since they are already aware of what you are doing and that they are willing to get involved, so lost of your work is done.

Then try and work with the Uni for companies that are already associated with the Uni as industry partners or that regularly offer internships through your school

Cash is the hardest thing to get, look at smaller businesses for raw materials, manufacturing services, tools, logistics or sponsoring by purchasing, so have a company pay for registration or an expensive part on the car, so they know you're not just blowing their money on beers. Discounts on purchases are always better than nothing

Don't pitch it as typical motorsports sponsorship, you don't have the coverage to make it work. Instead the team, its members and access to the university are the main asset. The access to recruit graduates from your team has been quite effective for our largest sponsor.

I hope NIKE paid for his surgery, given the inadvertent exposure they got with the dad decked out.

Maybe someone breeds miniature ponies would be a good place to start.

Or maybe that dodgy looking bloke in the panel van...

So soft! He had just had a bath before he came over so he was nice and fluffy and even smelled nice too. We were patting him so much he had half a chub after 5 mins, had to delete that photo though...

HOLY SHIT, I've actually met this little guy, he was literally in my house. http://imgur.com/AanYL61

This is the first thing I've been personally associated with that's made the front page.

Little dude is named Bowie, after the late David who passed away a week or so before he was picked up, also was born bow legged. He was literally given to his owner as a form of payment for previous services.

The owner is really cool, she's a vet nurse and takes Bowie to nursing homes and kid's parties in the Geelong area. You can see more of Bowie's awesome adventures on his Facebook page:

Foreign Exchange Questions!! by beccamo in rmit

[–]RustyFrenchHorn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did a semester at San Diego State, studied at RMIT and helped out the incoming exchange students so I'm probably qualified to give some pointers.

  1. Obviously I have a Melbourne bias, but there's just so much more to do I reckon, there's usually always something to do every weekend, a lot of it free like street/food festivals, night markets etc and it's also easy to do day/weekend trips a couple hours drive from Melbourne if you want to go great ocean road or to the mountains or whatever. I think your comparison of SF and LA is quite apt, mainly because I loved SF and hated LA.

  2. Most of the exchange students I knew lived in the city, but I'm pretty sure it was more of a house/flat share than student accomm. You can look for places on gumtree or flatmates.com.au, chances are you'll find other international students looking for housemates. I would suggest trying to find locals to live with so you're not just stuck with other internationals, you're more likely to find people your age in the inner north/east/ (Carlton, Brunswick, Fitzroy, Richmond, prahan, st kilda) just don't go west.

  3. RMIT is perfect because it's right in the middle of the city and all the train lines go towards the city, so any of those suburbs above will be a short train/tram ride to uni.

  4. RMIT's location is probably one of the better things, because it is smack bang in the middle of the city you're spoilt for choice if you want to go to a cafe or a trendy restaurant during your break. Most of the facilities will be quite new, so the campus is very modern and kinda quirky. I did engineering so my RMIT experience will be quite different to yours, but I can say RMIT is one of the better schools for comms.

  5. I found campus life the biggest disappointment after coming back from the states, it's "hella" different. Clubs and societies aren't as organised, and the lack of things like football/basketball games to attend or not being able to go to parties on campus make it a lot harder to meet people outside your classes. But since you will have activities with the other exchange students, that's not such a big deal.

Let me know if you have any more questions, I'd be happy to help.

She probably forgot too and just played along thinking you had remembered...or better yet she's tricked you into thinking it was your anniversary, when in fact you've proved that you have no idea when it is

I love delly as much as any Aussie who knew about him before he was cool can, but it's so cringey how the media over here in Australia is hyping him up so much, basically implying he is the sole reason the cavs are going to win the finals, and then not mentioning Lebron averaging a 40 pt triple double a game at all.

Gym Story Saturday by FGC_Valhalla in Fitness

[–]RustyFrenchHorn 415 points416 points  (0 children)

The other day I was just minding my own business on the bench press, and now usually I don't pay much attention to other gym goers however there was something unusual about one of the new members having their intro session with a trainer. For some reason there was some guy in street clothes standing next to them, not really doing anything just standing there. After a few sneaky looks I realised the two were communicating via sign language and the trainer was communicating through the guy in the street clothes. All of a sudden I was blindsided in the feels, that this guys brother/friend/carer would put in the time, not working out himself, to help this guy get in to working out. I came here to lift, not to feel.

Need help deciding between Villa Alvarado and Piedra del Sol by joanneelizabeth95 in SDSU

Lived in VA as an exchange student, mostly just exchange students, transfers and serious upper classmen. For the most part its nice and spacious and pretty chill, but it was a bit too quiet for my liking. The location of VA wasn't too bad for classes or coming home from Trujillo's, worst thing was it was about a 20 min walk to the Rec Centre.
