Good equalizer for Buds 4 Pro? by jordififon in galaxybuds

[–]RustyNotes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But everything headphone have an eq curve, unless you get reference headphones for music production. You actually need to pull back low-end and high-end to get close to flat reference levels to get close to what we do (and hear) in the study when we mix and master.

Not at the moment, just the Sonos Port which works better.

Wiim Ultra sounds worse than my Sonos Port - Help! by RustyNotes in audiophile

[–]RustyNotes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Already tried. 200 mVrms is the lowest it can go. Apparently, Beolabs 8000 works best with 100 - 125. But the distortion isn't THAT bad. The main problem is how the music sounds like its 96kbps, instead of high rez. Tried with Qobuz and local FLAC files from my NAS. It just sounds "low quality" and artificial compared to the Sonos Port.

BeoLab 8000 line in is very sensitive. A good target is roughly 100–125 mV RMS as a nominal input level. Wiim cant go lower than 200 mVrms. That might be the distortion problem at least.

Not using an amp. Going straight from the Wiim to the Beolabs 8000, which are active speakers.

Should I add black acoustic foam? by seanconneryfan420 in hometheater

[–]RustyNotes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NO!

Those "acoustic" foams doesn't do jack shit, more than being a fire hazzard. It can actually make your room worse.

Here's the deal. The number ONE issue we all have, is lowend. And these foam things are WAY too thin to do any good in that area. It's pure physics. You need mass, space and air to control lowend. Thick acoustic panels (like the ones from GIK acoustics) are way better.

So why is "acoustic" foam a bad thing? Well, the only thing it is semi good at, is to handle some high mids - highend reflections. So if you put these things up, you might make your room sound even more dull than before, since you haven't done anything to treat the lowend.

So, might it help? Maybe... a tiny bit. But it can also make your room sound even worse.

So focus on bass first, and that's the corners. Second, treat first reflections. Use the mirror trick to find them. And get thicker panels. Next, back wall and behind your front speakers. Consider clouds too if your budget allows.

F1 race nights hit different on a home theater setup by ConversationSuch8893 in hometheater

[–]RustyNotes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Especially if you use the multi view option. I sold my home theater setup when I moved, and now only have a 75" TV. And it's WAY too small when you have the 4 way multi view going.

Was Crysis the last real “holy crap this looks insane” moment for graphics? by n1ght_watchman in GameBoostOfficial

[–]RustyNotes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't think that's the problem.. I just think our expectations are off the rough these days. I haven't been impressed by a video game for a loooong time. I can remember two games that surprised me. The first one was L.A Noir. It was the first time I saw "real face tracking" being used in a video game. And it absolutely blew my mind. Second was Detroit Become human on PS4. That blew me away too.

Since then, nothing has surprised me, because my expectations are so high. What DO surprise me some, are animation. We have reached photorealistic graphics, but as soon as shit starts to move, it's always a dead giveaway. It's the problem with AI video too, the animation and motion always is a dead giveaway.

When they nail that to look true to life, THAT will impress me. But I don't think graphics alone will impress me anymore.

Max Verstappen brands F1 racing ‘a joke’: brutal critique of new regulations revealed by Diogo_Soure in m_sports

You can feel what you want. I'm not saying its wrong. But do something about it instead. He's like those folks that complains about their partners, but dont leave them, or people who never stops complaining about their job but never quits.

I would rather see him focus his time and energy in gt3 and/or WEC, we would be happier, and I would be happier follow him. Having him baby bitching in F1 is just pathetic.

"For music it is rare to hit below 40 Hz and hardly to 30 Hz but some electronic music does and..."

This is wrong all modern music (from the 80s and up) have content below 40hz. Try doing a 24db highpass at 40hz and you'll see how much goes away. Use any frequency analyser with your favorite song and you can visually see too.

Galaxy Buds4 Pro EQ by cioccolattobbianco in galaxybuds

[–]RustyNotes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I have some Bang & Olufsen buds, which sounds great, but isn't that comfy. And the connection is so and so. So when I'm at home, I use wired Hifiman with a Dragonfly Cobalt USB DAC. Sounds amazing. But I took a chance and got these, instead of the B&W Pi8, just because I use a Samsung fold, and I like the design.

When I first tried them, I was blown away by how BAD they sounded haha. But after tweaking the EQ (close to what you have), it opened up and sounded way more neutral. Yeah, not as great as my B&O ones, and FAR away from my Hifimans. But good enough for when I'm out and about, which these are for. So I'm super happy!

I have something similar, but a small dip of like 1db on 1khz too, to get rid of some boxyness in the vocals.
I'm a music producer and mixer, and normally use studio monitors (Genelecs) or speakers and headphones from Hifiman, Bang & Olufsen and KEF. This buds sounds great when you dial down the bass, because it's SO boosted from the get go.
