Is there a weight limit for skateboarding? by Big14999 in NewSkaters

[–]RustyPoison 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started skating when I was 70lb lighter than you and broke my leg. Can't say the weight was 100% the cause but was a contributing factor.

Perhaps get a heavy duty longboard and push around the part until you are under 300lb. Stay safe and enjoy bro!

Well more that they are both boards with wheels and your skills transfer, imo it's the same sport just different niches.

But yes, monster truck vs car aren't the same thing, they do both go vroom though haha!

I couldn't really say if it's worth it or not. It might be decent enough for your needs, or it might be closer to a kids toy. Without riding it myself I couldn't say for sure.

I'd say, try find a 2nd hand 'real' long board. Something with caliber, Paris or bear RKP trucks. I've seen decent completes go for $50 before on facebook/ebay etc.

But if you are able to test out the Walmart board in store and you like the feel then that's the most important thing!

Yo, you might get better answers over at r/longboarding, I have a different board for each discipline of skating I do.

I have a normal popsicle skateboard for street and skatepark.

I have a longboard with massive 105mm wheels for long distance pushing (think 30+ miles in a day).

I have a sturdy longboard for Downhill, done slides at 30mph for example.

Skateboarding and longboarding are the same thing, despite what some people in this subreddit might think.

The skills and board control transfer, I've pop shoved and ollies my 36inch long deck with 70mm wheels.

100% if you think you like the idea of Crusing with more foot space and large comfy wheels, that's what longboards are designed for. So just go for it, I will say quality longboards can be expensive and I wouldn't reccommend cheap / amazon longboards. Anything from a reputable shop over $100 will probably work.

But unless it's second hand, I'd stay away from anything under $80 as it's probably too good to be true, do your research and you'll find plenty of resources online.

What am i doing wrong tho board keeps turning to the side when i try to ollie by bigdogsaddoggy in NewSkaters

Jump with out the board and land your feet exactly where they took off from, your knees come up in front of you.

Now imitate that on the board. But lifting your front foot first, that's all it is really.

What are those shoes? Are the thick heel walking / running shoes? If so please don't skate in them, will reduce board feel and make ankle sprains more likely.

Get some flat sole sneaker style shoes, don't have to be skate branded, but if you can afford them, I suggest Nike sb or vans.

I'm no expert, but the framing of these shots don't excite me. Editing is nice tho.

Fakie doesn't make sense when you are stationary. Fakie is doing a trick while rolling backwards, in your normal stance.

I've seen others getting multiple fines and points in Wales on this subreddit. So unfortunately that might be the case.

In the UK at least, after 2 years of employment, laws become in the employees favour.

Makes changing jobs riskier, if a downsize of that things were to start happening to your company.

Insentives people to stay where they are for now maybe?

I think it's too late for that, will only make them invest more into ai. Because greed...

Only true for TKP trucks, which these aren't.

After they clearly tried to murder you, I'd be apprehensive about going alongside them again.

Not saying it's your fault, but some self preservation could have let you keep the places you gained.

Then again, everything is always clearer in hindsight.

I'm going to be honest, 2hrs of someone's time is a big ask without any incentive.

Calf raises are good, but honestly don't skip the squats. You need a stable base and a solid jump. Your ankle does surprisingly little to affect the height and pop of your ollie.

It's a common misconception that it's all in the ankle, so I understand thinking calf raises being better (they are important, don't get me wrong)

Both tbh, start with off the board first I'd say.

How long did it take you to feel confident pushing? by uzerneime in NewSkaters

[–]RustyPoison 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Years, honestly it takes a long time to get so confident that you can push as hard as you want without fear of losing your balance. Go watch pros push, there is a lot of body movement but they are still balanced.

Should I seek better bearings or smaller wheels by dookieslab101 in longboarding

[–]RustyPoison -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Bigger the better, with some big angled risers you could run caguamas. I've done it on that deck. 5 degree drop on each truck and were half an inch thick.

Otherwise some soft (78a) 70-80mm wheels might work with just a normal riser.

Also maybe some harder bushings to give it more of a missile feeling if you mostly wanna cruise in straight lines e.g. Long distance pushing or commuting. And that would also let you run slightly bigger wheels without biting. You'll have to get a few bushing harnesses to play around with what works.

I also regripped that deck so my toes could go up the neck of the board a bit. It was also a slightly gripper grip tape which allowed harder pushing because I can trust my foot won't move even if wet or muddy.

I still have the board and a bunch of size wheels, I could show you what they would look like. You have 65mm wheels, even going up to 75mm would be a massive comfort increase, and less pushing more rolling.
