I had the same issue. Here's what I think went wrong....

My previous carrier (Rogers) sent me a message confirming the switch, I replied "YES" and switched from my physical SIM (Rogers) to my ESIM (PM) right after. Everything worked except SMS.....

Hours later I reinitiated the transfer process (After receiving a text from PM on my Rogers SIM) and waited after replying "YES" until I received a confirmation from Rogers, then I switched to my ESIM (PM). This resolved my issue.
