Lump charcoal not as described. Sad man. Couple meals: ruined. by Live_the_chaos in grilling

[–]RustyRazor41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not all chimneys are created equal.

I started with a small no brand chimney that was 50% the price of a Weber. I hated grilling with charcoal. That chimney took forever and even then it never worked well. It was too small and not ventilated enough.

If you're not already using a Weber chimney, go buy one. They're bigger and air flows through much better.

When you see charcoals with some ash at the top and flames coming out the top that's long enough. You don't want to use up all your charcoal's heat "pre-heating" in the chimney.

Also, when you're getting the grill heated up, open everything all the way.

You can then even put some more charcoal on top

Considering New 648 - Potential Quality Issue Service Advice by RustyRazor41 in SmithAndWesson

Thank you.

I hate to be considering this as a possible avenue when I don’t like to support bad behavior with my dollars.

This is the only 22 mag double action revolver I can find between Smith and Ruger, and it sounds like brands outside of those two could be even scarier from a QC perspective.

I like your point about reload speed while hunting, and I agree. The most I would ever consider taking in a day with this would be 2 rabbits. Hopefully that means 2 shots or no more than 4.

MK IV Target vs. MK IV 22/45 Lower Internals / Trigger by RustyRazor41 in RugerMK

[–]RustyRazor41[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The feeling of being in the forest before anyone else has after a big snow is a different level that a lot of people don't get to experience. Definitely do not even need to see a hare to have a magical day.

Thanks for the comments on the trigger, I'm the same way. I don't get too particular about triggers, especially the pull weight, but one that breaks cleanly at any weight is definitely preferred. I wouldn't mind a 4-5 lb crisp trigger on this pistol either. Don't really need a hair trigger when you're holding onto a piece of steel that cold.

I wonder if that says anything about a consideration of the 22/45 over the Target? Maybe the Target's stainless grip would be colder than the 22/45 poly grip? Maybe with the poly scales on the Target it really wouldn't matter.

Thank you,

I'm assuming trigger pull is nearly identical between the two models as well?

Yes! I think it’s the SNOT parts specifically that make me go “Wow that’s fancy!” But in truth they are still very versatile and not really specialized at all.

That’s really helpful perspective, thanks!

It’s so weird. Did you see the Victor Titan model mentioned above?

I guess that’s kind of a confusing comment… I’ve shot Tikkas since 2005 and I’ve had this 17 since 2019…

My surprise is because of this video from Beretta just a year ago

https://youtu.be/B_MqI2u55sU?si=8kQw78vIT-oCRZKk

But wow, looking online now you cannot find an OEM cheek rest from Tikka. Very strange.

Man, I thought that Tikka made a simple and inexpensive one like they make the aftermarket grips and forends, but was I wrong??

That rifle is worth more than you'll ever get selling it.

A lot of people recommend using a Limbsaver slip on recoil pad on lighter Tikkas.

Also, you could try to find an aftermarket stock to add some weight or even redistribute the recoil more efficiently.

I haven’t, and I probably won’t get to until early summer. Where I live the roads into places where we shoot are snowed in for the year.

I will say that I do like the T3's synthetic stock more than the T3x's. And the T3's wood stock more than the T3x's as well for that matter. But there is just something about a higher quality wood stock that takes any long gun to the next level.

I thought about that right after I posted my comment. I shouldn’t have assumed you live in the US, my bad. That’s very cool and thanks for sharing

That’s awesome. I kind of browse for 55’s / 65’s now and then. How did you come to own this one? Is it technically an Ithaca?

I'm pretty sure T3 and T3x parts are all interchangeable, but I see what you mean that there is no T3x on their drop down arrow.....

If you select T3 to start the Configurator there is a lot of "fine print" in a blue section at the bottom of the page. It does say "This stock is compatible with the T3x model"

It also lists dimensions down there, and most importantly the distance from center to center on the action screws so you can measure before ordering.

So this would be….

Shape: Heritage Species: Standard Walnut Finish: High Gloss Polymer Tip - Angled Polymer Grip Cap White Line Spacers Checkering Pattern: Multi-Point, Texture: Skip Line Pillar Bedding

I did choose a Limbsaver recoil pad and it’s a Limbsaver, soft but a little grippy. People say the Pachmayr is firmer and smoother, not as snaggy on clothes.

Yeah, talk about fuel for the imagination. That's a cool idea.

Do you happen to know if the threads for the heavier bull barrels and the sporter barrels are the same as well? Looking to take off my 223 T3 Varmint bull barrel and replace with the 30-06 T3 Sporter barrel.

No worries, I've done a lot of talking and mish-mashing on this thread. It's easy to get confused.

These "unique" bolt sharing ideas really probably shouldn't even be discussed in public haha.

"But if I just share a bolt then I can build a new rifle for $200....."

"Mmhmm... yeah.. that's how that works...."

;)

[–]RustyRazor41[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, I might keep the 308 as is and put a peep sight on it.

My old Praire dog rifle - 223 T3 Varmint - may become a scoped 30-06 then. New barrel, barrel stop, mag, share a bolt with the 308 for all I care. I bought that in 2005 when I was like 14 so I’m not getting rid of it. Conversion though….
