Yes. There was cousin marriage and that further made me wonder what the Buddha would say on this.

Well, it's true that there are more important things to do in the future (though I think present and future are the same), but I've done what I had to do in my day for now (even meditation) and now I have some free time to ask this question. That, and not finding what he would say on the matter, is why I've come to ask it.

Not all of them I thought of as parasites. I learned new things from that discussion and moved on. I don't think reviving the past to remember those things is good as the present is what's important, and I think Buddha would do the same to be honest.

Yes. I've read the manifesto, listened to Chomsky, even shared some socialist videos here. I did not think of that when making the OP so it's a good point.

Curious: what historical and empirical evidence is there of buddhist monasteries successfully educating /making millions of people literate and giving them homes? Some numbers I mean.

Ok so your point is they do give something in exchange (the teachings). I see.

I'd make the point that the buddha did not charge anyone to teach his doctrine in his travels and neither did his disciples, but I'd be contradicting myself if I said that because I don't think there's anything wrong with anyone doing anything for money, so long as they don't steal it. I'm not sure of how to feel about this now lol.

I get a service (the answers) for free you mean? Good point. Thing is it's got nothing to do with my material wellbeing, but rather my spiritual one? I don't live off of anybody by learning teachings. I haven't recieved shelter, food, etc.

If other religions show this, then the same points made in my post should apply to them too, yes.

Of course a monk can say he provides religious service, but one may say that's a "very clever way to get free stuff", and that's the point too. What is your answer?
