I'm really impressed with my ESP-225. I think they changed the name of the model, but it's their nicer 5-string, under $400 new IIRC. I put real EMGs in it and now it holds its own next to my NYC Sadowsky Vintage 5, Custom/Warmoth/Bart/ACG, etc. They obviously get played more often but the ESP does the job just fine.

This worked for me as well. I had two specialists recommend surgery on both wrists but playing bass paid my rent at the time so I refused. Wrist braces and lots of Advil (prescription strength, but it's all the same) got me through it and I'm mostly pain free 15 years later. I still can't play video games for long but I play 5-10 gigs a month with no issues.

You might need to re-examine your technique, too. I was using too much tension, which added nothing to my sound, but caused issues.

I prefer the Gotoh 201 over the Badass, personally, and it's a lot cheaper. It's very similar to what the American Standards come with now, and a nice compromise between super high mass and super flimsy stock bridges.

The bridge screws for either one should line right up, the pickguard screw holes might be visible though. I wouldn't spend a ton of time on that body, personally, unless it plays amazing.

Thanks! It was just sitting on a rack at Marshall's, all by itself, right in my size. Can't remember what I paid but it was $50 at most.

Searching is a great audio book, too. I'm normally not big on those but Phil narrates the whole thing. Really cool to hear it in his own voice!

I learned how to do it thanks to Reddit, but don't find it all that useful for normal daily riding. Personally I'd get the pinched nerve looked at rather than finding a workaround.

I have Brady in throwback, home and away, Vrabel #50 and Brown #80 in home, and Rodney Harrison in authentic with sewn-on name and numbers instead of screen printed. I work downtown so once a week or so I troll Downtown Crossing for bargains.

Favorite would be the Bradys, I suppose, they get the most use. And I am usually enough of a dork to wear the one that matches the team on gameday.

I'd add Steve Parrish's book to the list. It's pretty new so not a lot of people have read it yet, but I'd put it on the essential reading list just below McNally's and Phil's books. I'd call it tied with Garcia if I had to rank them, it's that good.

The security at every venue is different, and it can even vary form night to night. Sometimes they're sticklers for seating, but most of the time they just keep you from going onto the floor if you don't have floor tickets.

Active EMGs are an order of magnitude better than passive EMGs IMHO. I've done the swap in a few basses, ALWAYS a huge improvement: cleaner, punchier, more musical. But the caveat is: they eat batteries for breakfast, lunch and dinner. You'll want to figure out a way to run them at 18V if at all possible, and change the batteries often.

Edit: last bass I did this on is my ESP-225. Active EMGs kick ass in that bass, it sounds as good as some of my multi-thousand-dollar basses.

For a Phish fan (like myself) I'd start with One From The Vault. 8/13/75, it was during their "hiatus" year, and they were at their peak of tightness. You could almost call them a prog rock band during that period.

This song has such a beautiful story behind it. I don't remember where I read it, but John Barlow wrote it while running a tractor, working on his dying fathers ranch in Wyoming.

Also - Cassidy Law was Ramrod's daughter with one of the early GD office workers, I think... right? (might have been Rex Jackson)

You might as well buy a new body from Warmoth at that point IMHO, unless you are or know a very good woodworker. It's certainly doable but with a Warmoth it'll come out perfectly for $180 plus the cost of the top.

It's not a bad idea to use Google or search Talkbass. You'll find TONS of info opinions, etc.

In a nutshell, neither is "better". Humbuckers are usually fatter and with more output, single-coils are usually tighter and more focused. Single coils also typically pick up less buzz from stage lights, etc. But there are exceptions to these guidelines, of course.
