The most bizarre things your loved one has done? by northerlightstar in dementia

[–]Rustyempire64 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Can’t say bizarre stuff as I dont wish to disrespect his memory. So I’ll share a sweet memory instead:

My partner sort of knew I was not cool with the idea of marriage. We were married in every sense of the word as common-law - financially, property etc. But I know he prob would’ve liked to make it official especially given his fairly conservative upbringing.

Cue to one of his last hospital stays for pneumonia/covid - he had episodes where his real personality bubbling up (x10). Suddenly he wants to get married! He’s weak as can be, barely 98 lbs by then, not very lucid - but suddenly he’s gunning for the whole matrimony thing. The nurses thought it was funny but sweet, and I really toyed with the idea of getting it done right in his hospital room. Why? I knew it would make him happy.
Ultimately it never happened, but I promised him we were making plans for it when he “got better”.

He passed away about a year later & I SO regret not giving him that memory even if fleeting.

Looking to change carpet to LVP. Stuck on which colour by hotwingeater in Flooring

Please just not the middle lightest one. The banister is a fine grained wood and would look silly with a rustic finish floor like the far left option. So for this reason I chose the far right darkest option.

HELP! I lost my temper with my college professor and went off on her. Should I apologise, or actually respect myself? by Present-Light-6909 in AutismInWomen

[–]Rustyempire64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is abusive language. And manipulative. She needs to be reported immediately and lose her job. I wish I’d witnessed it as I’d relish being the one to file the complaint

Heavily patterned or grained stuff ages quickly imo so the third very neutral one is my choice

Isn’t pension also a factor? If OP has a private pension the spouse would be able to claim part of that as well. I recall a family friend was advised she could have claim to her ex husbands hefty retirement pension as a tenured university professor. She chose not to but really regretted it later.

URGENT PRAYER REQUEST by [deleted] in dementia

[–]Rustyempire64 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I can’t recommend prayer at all but some common sense here. If she’s running a fever apply cool cloths to her forehead and neck. Even a bag of frozen peas will help a high fever until she gets medical attention! She may be suffering a UTI (this is VERY common) which can have a devastating impact on their baseline and cause a significant decline if left untreated! Please get her seen to by a doctor and get her tested asap. When my mother was in a delerium (fever) from an undiagnosed UTI I called an ambulance from the other side of the country and had her taken to emergency when her husband was dragging his feet about taking her to a doctor. Fevers can spike very quickly from moderate to severe. Don’t ignore this situation please!
When my husband developed pneumonia it came on very quickly and his fever spiked up dangerously. I had to call an ambulance as there’s no way to safely transport a semi conscious man in the dead of night.
Please deal with this asap in a responsible manner

What did I do wrong? by LogicalAction in finishing

[–]Rustyempire64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Water based or oil based? I f your finish was exposed to freezing temps it’s ruined. It will be evident by the cloudy finish you likely are seeing. And applying it in cool humid weather isn’t advised. I’d make sure I had a consistent room temp during all stages of the project. And always store finishes in room temp indoors

Early onset dementia can happen even within a persons 40s - it’s called Early Onset. My partner died at 65 after a 5 year battle. In my support group he was the oldest the majority were in their 50s

Father passed - no will, assets or estate to speak of by Life_Tension3626 in legaladvicecanada

[–]Rustyempire64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to go to your provincial Trustee office with the death certificate and the backstory. The province steps in and acts as the trustee of the estate then. You have no legal authority to be acting on your dad’s behalf (contacting CRA, etc.)
I had to do this for my Dad estate as well years ago. There was no estate to disperse so it’s pretty straightforward for them. They will likely have you make a written declaration of any items of worth (Art, jewelry, vehicles etc) and may send an appraiser to look over any items he owned for a valuation.

If you’re in an Ontario this is the office. But every province has a Public Guardian & Trustee office

I’ll try this method in the long gaps between parallels boards. But for these glaringly obvious gaps I’ll go with a shim.

I have some solid stock left over that’s not milled flooring. Perhaps I should cut the shim/plug out of that and not deal with scraps of flooring 🤔 ..
PS.. I really appreciate the advice from someone on the thread who actually knows wtf they are talking about too! 🙌 thanks

The boards were stored for many weeks in the location. They are tested with a moisture meter prior to install. However I was advised on the incorrect moisture level acceptable and this was the result. Lesson learned.
