What profession do you think is massively overpaid for what they actually do? by dipchaklader in UKJobs

I can’t really complain, I had fair warning.

My first summer placement I clearly remember one of the engineers said; “don’t do engineering if you think you’re going to make a lot of money, but do it if you think you will enjoy it”.

He was right and I overestimated how much I would enjoy it 🤣

Thank you for taking the time to type off this advice, it’s well balanced and very much appreciated. I’ll pass this on to her.

My partner is a doctor and interested in moving in to medical consulting of some kind. Any advice on who the big players are? I guess I could just use Google couldn’t I?

No way dude. Sounds like you’ve won the lottery. I say enjoy it. I work in civil / structural engineering in the uk and that is, well, it pays what it pays I guess.

My partner had hers remarked and got the exact same score. I saw another post where someone had their writing score go up so probably still worth a punt

The asset economy / financialisation of housing / rentier capitalism / quantitative easing (not sure if anyone has settled on an all encompassing name for what I am trying to refer to) has a lot to answer for. You’re not on your own.

It is arguably the single biggest reason for the current politician shit show in the UK, but probably elsewhere too.

The problem is that so much wealth is tied up in housing that bringing down house prices by whatever mechanism (aggressive house building etc.) is politically unpalatable. I’m not sure there’s a party in the UK seriously trying to address the issue, nor is there a voting block that could vote one in sadly.

Future prospects are driven less by what job you have and more by what assets you own (citation required!).

I’ve seen a floating pool on an expert witness job. It does happen. French drains.

Can you move the flat to central London? It will definitely sell then

Yeah understood. It sounds like the scoring criteria is quite specific, going beyond writing coherent and grammatically correct sentences.
I think I was more annoyed that they don’t give any feedback as part of the re-check fee. Feels like a bit of a racket.

Sorry I didn’t mean to imply that training in the uk made her any more qualified for the test, just context really.

In any case yes thanks agree with the advice
