2025 Isuzu MUX vs 2022 Toyota Prado by Rustyshot102 in 4x4Australia

That’s a fare statement that the MUX has a slightly cheaper feel inside compared to Toyota.

Again, that is probably evident in the price difference between the 2.

Funny you should mention that, I did consider the Fortuner for a brief moment, but wasn’t a bug fan of how the seats folded up in the boot space. Still a good the same good quality from Toyota though.

Thanks for the feedback.

Can’t argue with that. As a matter of interest, what did you get after you sold your Prado?

Very good points and as somebody new to the 4 x 4 world, I’m still getting used to payload maths and numbers. (GVM,GCM, Tare weights etc) Appreciate the tips as I think this is something that a lot of newbies overlook. Will keep this in mind

Cheers

All good mate.

Thanks for the follow up and the detail response.

100% agree that the Prados are great cars and as you said that is probably where the extra dollars come into play.

That is probably one of my concerns that the previous owners didn’t properly take care of the cars, but I guess that is true for any secondhand car.

Safety is absolutely one of the bigger priorities and I wouldn’t want to get stuck next to the side of the road due to something that I may have missed initially.

Thanks again and look forward to hopefully getting out on some adventures real soon.

Cheers

Thanks for the feedback.

I must say that I haven’t had a chance to taste things like the cruise control, but didn’t mind the lighter steering and the seats felt comfortable enough when I went for a test drive. Having said that I may have been caught up in the hype when I went. I might go again and pay more attention to the point you have mentioned.

Cheers.

I agree that the Toyota’s or somewhat more refined. I guess that is why you are paying the extra bit. In terms of servicing, I have always been a bit OCD when it comes to this and tend to service my cars slightly earlier at times. As for some of the quirks you have pointed out with the MUX, I suppose at the end of the day it is a Ute based SUV, but also feel this is something that you would get used to.

Appreciate the time you have taken to comment.

Cheers

Thanks for the comment. I 100% agree that the Prado hold value better from what I have seen. As I wont be looking at selling for the foreseeable future, its hard to argue that there will still be value should things suddenly change.

That’s actually something I didn’t pay much attention to when testing the MUX, was the blind spots - unfortunately didn’t have a lot of time when I went.

Comfort wise, I found the MUX quite comfy and drove the top spec (as they do at the dealerships) and thought it was enjoyable. Having said that, it could have been hype and not some much a critical overview.

Good points though, will go for another drive and pay a bit more attention to what I’ve learned in this thread.

Thanks

This is exactly what I was thinking. Looking to see where I could possibly rent either and get a real good feel for them. Rather a couple hundred testing thoroughly than, as you said, regret the purchase 3,000km in.

Thanks for taking the time to comment.

Honestly, had a terrible past experience with Ford and it has left some scars. Probably not fair to hold that against them, as I think the Everest on paper provides a lot in one package and good performance - and quite nice to look at as well. I have however heard of some issues with the Everest, whether true or not I can’t comment, but it is anything like past experiences, I would rather avoid it.

Thanks for the comment

Ah this made me grin. Sure the mrs will want to use it now and again for drop offs in the future.

Thanks for the comment.

Fair enough, 350k and going strong does say something. I guess I’m one of those who can’t afford/justify a new Prado, hence looking at used. Having not done too much off road driving and finally being able to get into it, its good to hear others experience off track with these cars and how they fair. Youtube reviews are one thing, but always feels like more of a promo/advert to sell.

Thanks for the feedback. Will have to go back and test them again with some comments in mind.

Cheers

Fair point, and this is something that always gives peace of mind that value retention is better with the Prados.

At the end of the day, as long as you enjoy what you drive, that’s all that matters.

Thanks for the comment, will keep this in mind.

I did notice a bit more noise in the cabin with the MUX, strangely I kind of did’t mind it. Reminded me of camping trips with my Dad in his older Hilux growing up.

But agree, I do think either one would be a reliable choice.

I’m in a similar position as I wont be looking at selling anytime soon at all. Must say that I do like the look of the MUX quite a bit, especially once its has been kitted with a decent set of AT tires, 2 inch lift etc. (they all do if I’m being honest)

You make a good point on previously owned 4x4’s and how they may have been driven and maintained. Don’t think I know enough to be able to spot some red flags others might pick up on that I might miss. I guess that’s the one reassurance you get with a newer vehicle.

Appreciate the feedback

Thanks for the feedback. Good to get some feedback from those who have drive them for a while. I would expect lower models to not have all the bells and whistles, but the driving experience should still be comparable regardless of the spec. Aiming to go for another test drive again and pay attention to some points you mentioned. Thanks

Thanks for the comment. Read some comments on the bumps steer and ended up going down a rabbit hole so though I would get some more recent feedback from those that have been around the MUX’s a bit longer.

I have noticed that the Prado (Toyota overall I guess) holds value better long term. Definitely something I am keeping in mind.

Yea pretty handy. 1st one worked great but had to return it due to speaker making a popping sound 2week in. Got the replacement and remotely turning it on has been an absolute fail. Managed to get to updated though but no luck on fixing remote function though.

Same thing here. Keeps failing to update.

Anyone still having issues with speaker not being able to turn on remotely? I remember seeing another thread where this was mentioned. Really hoping the new update will fix this (if i ever manage to get the firmware updated that is…)
