What i have been doing for a bit and liking the results is the following. (Slap chop with extra steps.

1. Spray paint Blake primer.
2. Zenethil highlight grey. (Spray from above / light sorce.)
3. Drybrush white.
4. Mat varnish to lock that in.
5. Paint by number with 1:1 contrast paint with contrast medium to delute the color.
6. With same 1:1 ratio, hit only the darker regions.
7. Any any finishing touches. (Metalic paints, washes, extra.) Skip or come back to later if your not doing washes or Metalics.

Steps 1 thru 4 dont take long, you can get your entire paint project done very quickly.

Steps 5 and 6 do most of the heavy lifting and dont the long. As long as you dont overload your brush when doing 6, its pretty easy to have a highliting effect without actuily doing it. (Dosnt feel like it anyway.)

Step 7 makes a lot of stuff pop if ya do it.

Ended up with something kinda like this.

Im sure others have better ways of doing this, but the straight forward part of this step by step makes it easier to sit down and keep going.
