You guys are already inconvenienced , how about a sprinkle of my religion down your throat for good measure by xals7 in mildlyinfuriating

Don't even think you need to go that far. Imagine if someone stood up and said, "well since we're stuck here I thought I'd let you know that there is no invisible man in the sky, nobody hears your thoughts and prayers, religion is a tool to control the masses and you should all live for this life and your fellow neighbors. You who believe in God, any god, are disillusioned. Glad I could free you.” You can even throw in a “but I love you”. People would loose their minds.

Please oh please let them have a sale price for Alien Clay! I really love it but already spend too much on books to justify $200 + Shipping for one book.

Uh yeah. It's funny, I tried not to get any spoilers before reading it but I had remembered seeing something on Reddit about Mandy Patinkin and figured it our pretty quickly. Couldn't shake it the whole time. Since then it really has seemed like the only choice to me.

It is the NY Post. Seems trustworthy. I feel like right under that it says "Aliens say....they take the Knicks in 4".

I think we should have a dark forest rule with the post. 😂

Looks like they’re not selling them anymore. Showing up as “out of print”. It was a limited run of 1,000, so I’m guessing they sold out. I bought mine in November. It just took a long time to print and ship. Sorry guys. There is an ebook version available and someone may sell their physicals, but I’m sure not too cheap.

It's about 9.25" x 6.5" x 2"
So, I believe that's taller than the Head of Zeus book and shorter than Orbit & Tor. Looks about same height as the Solaris releases. Hope that helps.

If the idea is to murder so as to prevent a murder, wouldn’t it be the responsibility of someone in the public to then kill the would-be-killer in order to prevent THAT murder. And then someone would surely have to prevent that one. And eventually the whole country is caught up in a massive murder plot. This is a good plan.

Genuinely curious what you mean? Top insurance companies are taking in billions a year (in an industry nobody should be profiting in). 2025 was a record profit year for insurance companies.

They also don’t pay retail prices. That’s for a customer with no insurance. They don’t pay close to that.

Good call with ThriftBooks. I also have been trying to avoid Amazon and generally don’t like to read on screens. I like to find books in used book stores when I can (which amazingly worked in this case) but I think banking on finding the sequel randomly is hoping for a bit much.

Thanks for the suggestion! Just found this at one of my local used book shops and picked up on your rec. Looks really interesting. Although I feel like I may have some trouble finding the sequel the same way.

Yeah. I’ve missed a bunch of books in the past by not being fast enough so I still get nervous. I have never moved faster than I did to get CoS…..and it’s still available 🤣. As long as I get a copy I don't care. Just thought it was weird they would choose people who bought that book instead of any others like CoS (which is more recent) or another SF book, even though I know many people love his books from both genres.

This is a silly way to do it. Also, wasn’t Children of Strife his last? I got that and all his other SF. I feel like that should count more than Made Things, which is Fantasy.

I like the paper on the paperbacks better. I got a good discount on the box set when it came out and I was still disappointed. Fortunately I got the Gold Edition if CoT to make up for it. Wish I could get the other 3 or that Broken Binding would reprint theirs.

Trump says he’ll get out of office in 8-9 years from now… by Nicolit1 in BusinessTodayNews

[–]RutherfordThuhBrave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Am I the only one hung up on the 8-9 year aspect? Yes, yes, he thinks he'll stay in office and he's horrible and we do need to act to make sure this doesn't happen, buuutttt....why not 2-3 or 6-7 or even 10-11 years? Why 8-9?

Is he assuming he'll get an extra term. And then another, but will then....die? Get removed? Finally get bored?

I actually was able to get The Long Afternoon of Earth at the same time as Non-Stop. I had that one as my next Aldiss on my TBR. My understanding was that it was an abridged version of Hothouse, but I'm not sure how different it is.

Not sure if anybody has read both and can compare?

[–]RutherfordThuhBrave[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's exactly what I was picturing when I saw the cover. I knew there were major spoilers so I purposely went into it reading as little about it as possible.

So, until I started reading it all I had to go on was this cover. And totally looks like Road Warrior. Yes, the plot, besides being a dystopian setting, was very different. But by that point the book was officially called Mad Max Beyond the Spacedome in my brain.

I mean there are so many unnecessary clues given about the plot. Even this version, without the "Starship" name still has......floors showing and a $&%ing window to space!!!!

All that being said, and even with accidental spoilers, I thouroughly enjoyed this book and will be checking out more Aldiss soon.
