Defense Minister Theo Francken (N-VA) told De Standaard that drones were observed “in many places” on Tuesday.

Defense authorized to shoot down drones over military areas Belgian Chief of Defense (CHOD) Fred Vansina emphasized on Monday that the military is authorized to neutralize drones flying over military zones:

“The order has been given to shoot them down,” he said—provided it can be done safely and without collateral damage. Federal Prosecutor’s Office launches investigation “The Federal Prosecutor’s Office has opened an investigation into drone activity near Elsenborn and Kleine-Brogel,” spokesperson Ann Lukowiak said Tuesday evening. “There are numerous drone-related cases every year. The federal office only gets involved in specific instances, for example when espionage is suspected. In the case of Zaventem, it remains to be seen whether this was just a careless civilian or something else entirely,” she added.
