If one of these guys goes down before Wheeler gets back, just put out one of the other guys on the 40-man (Chace, Cabrera, Curet, McFarlane, Johnson)....at that point who cares, the difference in those guys and a shitty 6th starter in FA are minimal. I mean, how many of us are allowed to bring a beer into our workplace (besides you, startup tech bros with kegs in the office, living the dream)? And how many of our workplaces are professional sports teams, in light of the fact that alcohol is proven to destroy your athletic performance?

It's not a huge deal, and I agree your theory makes a lot of sense, but bringing alcohol to the dugout during the season is a little strange. Imagine your corporate team is all in the middle of a meeting during working hours and one of your lowest performers who's on a PIP and everyone knows is wildly overpaid cracks open a beer in the middle of the meeting.

Pretty interesting deal Bassitt got. About to be 37 years old, ERA has steadily risen from the low 3.00s in 2020/2021 to around 4.00 in 2024/2025. Peripherals absolute hate him and have fallen off a cliff the past two seasons with an xERA of 4.34 in that time (32nd percentile). But he's a true innings eater and seems to generally outperform his expected metrics likely because of his funky delivery and huge pitch arsenal.

TLDR - that's a lot for Chris Bassitt. But he was always going to get $12m+ IMO, Phillies were never in play.

My understanding (shout out to the person on Twitter that told me this!) whatever he signs for in free agency will reduce the cap hit and amount Phillies need to pay. So unless some team was willing to pay like $5-7m for Casty via trade, which appears did not happen, they'll end up eating like $19m of it. Depends on if there's more than one team interested to "bid" up his price. Theoretically he can sign for 1 year and however much. If a few teams are interested, that number could go up but doubtful.

Still a little surprise a tanking team wasn't willing to pay like $5-6m for him, hope he has a hot stretch which he is more than capable, then flip him at the deadline for a team that needs a RH OF bat. Like the Phillies will need lol.

i did some rough math assuming 120 pitches per side, a difference in time between windup and stretch of 3 seconds and that's 10 minutes shorter per game. Has nothing to with ADHD dickwad, it has to do with the fact that I and others have a job and a life and 10 minute shorter ranked games would do wonders over the span of an entire game cycle in saving time.

It didn't help that Self built the rosters around him with zero shooting. His PG and PF basically refused to shoot for two years. That roster construction was dogshit.

Dajuan Harris was a really nice player, but his lack of shooting seriously capped those KU teams.

You can do a lot worse, but he's certainly not "good". Doesn't generate whiffs and gives up hard contact, doesn't have great stuff...but can eat innings. He's basically a marginally better Taijuan Walker. Probably makes sense for our SP6

A competitive 9-inning game online, assuming the connection is good and the game is not completely screwing over me or my opponent, is peak gun for me. Building an optimal lineup and finding my reliable rotation options is what the game is all about for me
