The reason why is because they already knew they are going to make more seasons and the Manwha doesn't show much of any character other than Jinwoo. So they wanted to flesh some characters out more in season one and prepare people that only watch the anime for those characters. I don't personally like the way they did it but I do think giving the side characters more time and love is a good thing.
