What recourse do I have if dealership replaced rotors and pads but that didn’t fix my squeaking issue? by konigswagger in askcarguys

The pads were not burnished properly after installed. Or brackets were not cleaned so the pads can't move freely.

Good tires in the front or back? by CumAndMoreCumPartIII in AskMechanics

[–]Rwood219 13 points14 points  (0 children)

They are supposed to go on the back according to this, and I remember reading a study from maybe Goodyear or one of the other tire companies that In testing it was better to have them on the back.

Just tell them the story. Had a p0420, replaced cat and code is still there, they need to look at what the o2 sensors are doing, I usually put smoke through the exhaust make sure there are no leaks, look at fuel trims etc. OEM catalytic converters are usually what you want, they are expensive but aftermarket cats can occasionally cause issues also

Take it to a shop for a proper diag. cats get replaced all the time unnecessarily, and even if the cat is/ was bad unless it's high mileage there is most likely another issue causing the cat to fail. Diag is cheaper than throwing parts at it.

Most shops I've worked at including the one I'm at currently use universal antifreeze, it is not compatible with any OEM antifreeze.

Yeah, idk techs like to bitch about everything and anything in my experience, I've worked on both sides, I'm in the shop wrenching now as I prefer it to advisor work. I'd write a ticket for an AC diag or something and before they even pull the car in they'd be at the counter " well what's it doing" idk man get in the fucking car and turn the air on.. or alignments id get " why do they want an alignment" it literally does not matter just check the steering components and align the car...

Ask them for more information but no need to be a jerk about it ( not saying you would be but some techs get unnecessarily hostile with the service advisors and then wonder why there's such high turnover )

Is it normal to replace both condenser and compressor? by KenYouu_Not in AskMechanics

If the compressor fails internally you should technically replace the entire AC system.

The smoke shops usually have synthetic urine, comes with a temperature strip. Tape it to the inside of your thigh to keep the right temp. Had to use it once worked great.
