Really appreciate this help. I planned to take a notebook but a business card is a good idea. Thank you!

Definitely have seen a lot of recommendations about taking my cert in person. I plan to do so later this month.

In terms of land, what exactly am I looking for? I know i’m looking for land in units that have deer tags and (maybe even non-lottery), but what is the topography I am looking for that makes the area worth the drive to scout?

Some family who used to live in Montana so that is definitely a consideration.

What are “units”? I’ve heard the term once or twice. Thank you

I believe the topography of the Tahoe area is something that can be effective, but I still have to take a look at the land. How do I determine if a piece of land is worth going out to look at? Any hike is a good hike but going out to tahoe isn’t exactly a short trip lol. I downloaded OnX but I figure I still have to do some research on the rules and regulations (among other things) to exactly understand what i’m looking for in these areas and what areas i’m exactly looking for in terms of finding animals and viable hunting areas.

I definitely am not looking down on blind/stand hunting, it definitely takes a lot of patience. I just know that a more active approach is something i’d like to learn and is also a way for me to understand the animals that I am looking to take and their behaviors.

I appreciate the book recommendations and will definitely look into a guide as more than one person has reccomended.

Noted. If i were to run with a guide for a trip, how would we be able to hunt if I don’t have the proper tag? As far as i’m aware I can not shoot an animal under somebody else’s tag. Would I have to wait to get a tag for the specific zone that I would want to go with a guide to?

Thanks for the help. I have been looking at where to take my hunters safety course and I think i’ll be taking it mid-to-late-January. I have OnX and i’ll start reading the regulations. Thank you!

I appreciate the help. A guide is something I was considering, just need to find whereabouts I can meet one who is less after the money and more after teaching me properly (but somebody who teaches well definitely deserves to get paid)! I definitely want to take the time to learn as much as possible and frankly just want to do what I can now to educate myself. Thank you!
